I do not get why people think this!

They released the Verizon iPhone as soon as the exclusivity was ended with ATT. Thats why they did it! They didnt want to wait another 6 months and watch many Verizon customers adopt Android. No reason to wait when they can expand their presence.

Then wouldnt Verizon be pissed if ATT had a better phone before them?

It is just stupid to think that the next iPhone wont be Verizon compatible. The only question is will they integrate all the technology into one phone so they are compatible with both or manufacture two different phones.

You're missing the point.

Those VZW users that flocked straight to the iPhone when it came out for their network won't be able to get the new phone unless they pay full price for it, because they would already be locked into the iPhone 4 that they got when it first came out for them. So taking advantage of it then would screw themselves over for when the new one comes out, unless VZW changes its terms (which I don't see happening).

BL.

to think that apple isnt going to release a unified phone for both att/verizon is just absurd. they already have the qualcomm global chip in the vzw iphone, so it only makes sense to make 1 phone that can be used and distributed by apple globally. not only will this be better for production costs, but the only change apple would need to make would be within the software. it doesnt make sense to launch a brand new iphone 4s/iphone 5 at two different times for two carriers

I dont think you are getting it! Read the post I replied to. It is saying the iPhone 5 wont be available for Verizon when the iPhone 5 is available for ATT. He is saying Apple wont release one for Verizon quickly and will have to wait.

Which is idiotic to think.

I agree with this, but I still think its possible it they make two different phones. I give it a 90/10 chance they only make one that is compatible with both.

How do you like the Incredible? Perhaps most importantly, how is the battery life?

The battery life is excellent. The rest of the phone is a disappointment. It's not intuitive to do simple things, like adding a contact to the phone book.

They don't want an old phone at the introductory cost. I know two people specifically holding onto their older phones until the iPhone 4gs/5 is out on Verizon.

I venture to say most of the people who bought vPhones are unaware or could care less about the next gen iPhone. It's still amazing they are pulling a Microsoft on this one by not realising realistic figures for vPhone sales (total.. preorder and in-store). Apple doesn't want to show how much of a failure this was. Poor $teve Job$

I switched to Verizon Iphone and went back to ATT a few days later

I took the plunge and even was willing to take the early termination fee with ATT since dropped calls became moreso over the last few months on my iphone 4 in los angeles. Now Verizon never dropped a call over the few days i had it and even kept a call over the coldwater canyon (something ive never been able to do over att or tmobile back in the day) the dealbreaker was the unspoken call waiting issue or limitations to CMDA. If you get another call, the person holding isn't named anymore, it now would say multiple calls, you cant pick and choose which active call to go back to, just swap while the screen never indicates which live call you're in, and you cannot turn that into a merged or conference call. Then when you end one active call, the iphone on verizon ends BOTH calls or so it appears, then seconds later the live or active call rings back and you answer that, very confusing. Even small things like emoto icons dont work outside verizon iphones to iphones. ATT took me back, no termination fee and gave me unlimited mobile calls, to any mobile.....i was even able to live without the call/no data thing, but the call waiting thing was a deal breaker and i wish verizon/apple was more forthcoming with this, not buried in the user manual AFTER you buy it. I guess this is a normal CMDA thing, but if you're coming from att or tmobile, this is a big eye opener.

You LOUDLY miss the point. AT&T has had this device almost 9 months. Those are CURRENT AT&T sales on a provider people have had 9 months to go to for the iPhone. For Verizon subscribers, they never could get this phone before. That is indeed a weak showing especially when Verizon has 10 million more subscribers that AT&T. The expectations were to see numbers similar to last June when the phone launched. The average Joe isn't like us and aware of product cycles. They just see iPhone. I'm sure a new device coming is part of it, but considering AT&T is that close 9 months later.... says a lot.

are you implying that the point is that At&t is that great? As an owner of every iphone that has come out since day one, i have begrudgingly enjoyed my iphone despite the lacking service interuptions from ATT.

If they really wanted lines at Apple stores, maybe:
1) They shouldn't have had other sources to buy it (ie. Best Buy)
2) They should have had the online source give the option to pick up in stores vs mail.
3) They should have offered more of an incentive for people to switch, rather than have the same prices as AT&T and no offset for AT&T's ETF...

this

I've been waiting for someone to mention this. It's kinda like retrofitting a touchscreen onto tin-cans connected with string.

Don't forget the lack of simultaneous voice and data, I'm amazed so many people are playing that done, it's a huge disadvantage.

This was on 9-to-5 Mac today....it's a pain to manage voice calls on verizon.

I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of potential Verizon customers are waiting until June to see if the iPhone 5 merges both phones.

I am, and I know of 6 others who are as well.

I don't see how any kind of comparisons can be drawn. AT&T releases have been new phones with new features and lots of hype and hysteria. The Verizon release was a 6mo old existing and somewhat famously problematic phone that everyone was already familiar with. I would consider nearly equal sales to be impressive.

I get the feeling that Apple doesn't think people pay any attention to product cycles, with the way they just toss out Mac updates without discounting the stuff its way out, & seem shocked that a product halfway though its lifecycle isn't selling as hot as one at the beginning of it.

They've actually got my sale by bringing iPhone to Verizon, they just need to make the next better phone for it to be realized.

I do not find this surprising at all.
The Verizon iPhone is as one other user put it "castrated".

It just does not deliver in speed and full capabilities like it should.

This release was way too hyped. I guess when all the information was in it just showed that for now AT&T is the place to be if you want the best iPhone experience.

God this is ignorant.
I was eligible for early upgrade so I switched from Android. The phone is not "castrated". It's fast, it streams music without skipping, downloads videos from youtube without any delay, and works flawlessly thus far. I have coverage everywhere. Quit being a fanboy of a phone company, it's sad really.

Anyways, this report is as garbage of journalism as it gets. 5 apple stores? Really? For some reason the media seems to want there to be a Verizon iPhone disappointment. Maybe they could, oh I dont know, try digging up some info about sales at Verizon stores? I dont know too many people who go to upgrade their verizon phones at stores other than Verizon. Maybe thats just me though.

Besides, as others have made clear...iphone 5 right around the corner, and people tied to contracts. Thats it. The flood will come. I'll be eBaying my 4 if the 5 has obvious must have improvements, otherwise I'm very happy with this phone! Let me know if anyone wants an honest comparison of the pros and cons between Android and this...I owned what many consider to be the best Android phone, the original Motorola Droid (one of the only stock Android phones).

There are a lot of us AT&T iPhone customers who don't live in SFO or NYC where we still have the sense to pick our carrier based on coverage where we work and live first and the device second.

I'm a huge iPhone fan (2G, 3G and now a 4), but if the coverage sucked where I live and work, then I would have jumped ship for Verizon or Sprint a long time ago.

Agreed. The AT&T coverage in the Pacific Northwest is solid. San Fran and NY City represent < 5% of the US Population.

Verizon wanted the premier to run through them. Like any carrier they wanted to up sell the first time.

I'm pretty happy with the battery life. It is at least as good as the life on my old 3G when it first came out...

Many, many thanks for taking the time to write that out. Appreciate the feedback.

I'll take a look at the Droid's at VZ tonight while we're moving my wife to their iPhone. Maybe I'll take the plunge and upgrade from Optimus too. :)

Thanks for the feedback.

I have noticed that Android takes some getting used to when coming from an iPhone. All I can say is thank the Gods/programmers/whatever for Bump. Certainly made the transferring process alot smoother than it could have been coming from my iPhone to the Optimus V.

I think most users are factoring this into the decision whether to purchase it now or wait. I was prepared to wait, until I found out that I would indeed get the discounted pricing. I can upgrade to 5 at full retail (guessing ~750), sell my 4 on ebay for ~400 or maybe a little more, and I'm out a little more than the cost of the new phone at contract price. Sure, the teeny bop crowd probably wont be able to do this, but most working adults who use a smart phone on a daily basis would have no issues doing this. The way I look at it, my phone is my most used piece of electronics by a landslide. I dont mind paying some money to have the latest and greatest. In fact, I am going to evaluate the Droid Bionic when it comes out, and I am guessing its retail price wont be as much as Apples iPhone 5 so I might break even if I go with the Bionic.

I said this before. Sales are not doing well because many of us are NOT ELLIGIBLE FOR AN UPGRADE as we are in the middle of a contract cycle. My last new every two will be this December.

I refuse to pay full price for the phone. I would, without hesitation, buy the "discounted" iPhone.

If BIG RED wants sales, let us re-sign for two, EARLY!

For all you verizon people waiting until June.. I highly doubt Apple will release a Verizon version of their iPhone just 4 months after releasing the iPhone 4. If a June Iphone refresh comes along, I see it as being only AT&T with Verizon to follow later down the line.

Common knowledge that the iPhone 5 will be world-wide compatible (works on both AT&T and Verizon, and the rest for that matter)...

33% more sales than AT&T is GREAT!

Name me one business that wouldn't be overjoyed with outselling its rival by 33%???

Sure we all got over excited by all the nerds and geeks bagging AT&T. But obviously the man in the street isn't as concerned about those issues.

But these are great for Verizon, and it's no wonder they're pleased.

Well I was one of those ready to jump ship to Verizon, but the lack of simultaneous data and voice is a biggy for me. I started thinking how often I did this and would miss it greatly. Plus as of late my AT&T service seems to have improved a good bit. I may still switch, but right now I am waiting to see the iPhone 5 and/or iPhone Nano (which I am very interested in).

I don't see why the Verizon iPhone would outsell the AT&T iPhone. Most people already have their AT&T iPhone, they won't be getting the Verizon one. Those who waited for the Verizon iPhone don't outnumber those who already got one. Plus, the iPhone 5 is expected in a few months.

I'm not in the US so I have no idea what the difference between the two carriers is, but generally there is no big difference between carriers other than the fact that if all your friends have carrier X, you will use carrier X to make cheaper calls to your friends. In that respect, sales depend on how many people use a given carrier. The more people use the same carrier, the more iPhones that carrier will sell.

I am waiting for the new one, plus we get out from my wifes in mid march. So I will not get anything till then regardless.
