I never understand people with thousands of rollover minutes. It means you have the wrong plan.

As for cost, they're usually equal, or nearly so. If you're paying $50 less, do you have a discount or something?

No, actually I have the right plan. My family plan was/is the lowest cost nationwide family plan from 7 or 8 years ago, perhaps a tad longer, don't remember (no frills). I don't believe they still offer it but once you have it you can keep it. We used to use our cell phones only for long distance. Then after purchasing the iPhone I started using the iPhone for more calls. Still have well over 4,000 minutes. It was less than $100.00 per month, When I bought the 3Gs I included 1500 text messages so now it's $105.00. When I checked Verizon the closet plan I could come up with was around $150.00. I've heard they had a price reduction although I have not checked it out. I refuse to give Verizon another cent since they recently jumped my FIOS by $30.00 per month:(, and thats only for telephone and internet service.

And for those of you who think that Verizon will have the same problems as AT&T when they get the iPhone: Wrong. Verizon is only at about 55-60% capacity of their network. If every single AT&T customer came over to Verizon, they would be able to handle it just fine, even right now.

After time the network will get overcrowded just like AT&T's is. It will be the same results. People don't realize this.

That's my point. It won't like I said. It can handle ALL of AT&T's current customers. Even if it is launched on Verizon, it is unlikely that a number as large as AT&Ts entire customer base would come to Verizon. They will be fine.

AT&T admits that only 2% of its users consume more than 2GB of data per month, how will a ton of AT&T users switching to Verizon make your service any better? Keep living the dream if it makes you happy.

Why do people care if the iPhone goes to Verizon?
If it does cool, more people to facetime with!

I care cause I have no ATT coverage at my house. Verizon does. Some areas are better for different cell providers. Mine happens to be verizon.

Or did you mean why the hatred toward another carrier having the iphone? That I can't answer (but there is a lot of that).

Thanks You!

Now finally people can get off the AT&T network and go to Verizon and let AT&T finally be able to handle the volume of people it serves!

so this is official? alot of local news channels are reporting this, without it even being official.

Offical Release this morning on WOAI San Antonio, TX

I just heard on News Channel WOAI San Antonio, TX (Clear Channel) that it is official; the iPhone will be released by Verizon starting January 2011.

I have used AT&T since 1995 and don’t really have any complaints. I do have some recent annoyances though concerning data throttle and how they are handling tethering, but other than that the service and signal has been great here in San Antonio at least... I do not know if I will switch or not when the time comes, but I will keep an eye on what users are reporting and what plans and limitations (or lack there of) with verizon.

I think the best thing to look forward to is competition; this should lead to more competitive pricing both with the iPhone costs, and actual data and voice plans between AT&T and verizion! In my opinion, now that this news has been officially released, AT&T should jump on the gun and start lowering some of their plans NOW to make it hard for Verizon. (Of course I would like to see some of the plan offerings and costs from Verizon right now as well to help fuel the competition a little sooner.)

THEFT--reason to love Verizon

Don't know if this was mentioned yet....but if you lose your ATT phone the "finder" just sticks in a SIM card and off he goes. Great if you're the finder or the buyer, not so much if you're the loser or the victim.

If I lose my Verizon phone I report it lost/stolen. Nobody can sell it or buy it because Verizon knows it's lost and won't activate it. I'm sure a few creative people can find a way around this, but not your average guy.

Gotta believe there is therefore less incentive to STEAL Verizon phones because they are harder to unload. A family member recently lost a phone and I feel better knowing the person who finds it (and keeps it or sells it rather than turning it in) won't be able to use it.

Also, ATT service is not so good where I live. It's OK but Verizon works much better here.

Verizon FTW... Screw AT&T

I actually just looked at the Verizon site and configured an account quote for everything I have at AT&T (Using a DRIOD) for compairson, and I would actually have to pay about $25 more a month for the same family plan etc I have with AT&T. I hope they bring their prices down more to compete starting in January.

That is a great point! Does the Apple Find My iPhone feature also use the SIM? I use this feature since the AT&T GPS tracking they offer is not accurate... Either way, if I can track it, I am going to get it! ;-)

I just checked Verizons prices, and for me to switch my family plan to Verizon will have to spend an extra $25 a month for the same services etc. If they have recently redused their prices, they must have been VERY expensive. At this point for those that do not have issues with AT&T service in their area, I do not see a point in switching unless you just want to pay more. But for those in areas with a lot of reception issues and clogged networks like New York and San Fran, it will probably be worth paying more for service that actually works...

I am interested to see what options verizon will offer for tethering though... I am not impressed at all with the tethering iption with AT&T.

I believe it when I see it cause ever since the iPhone has came out everyone been like "oh so when is it coming to verizon" and people have just start throwing rumors out ever since. Like at the beginning of the year they said rumors when the iPad came out then again for wwdc and then the fall and now Jan 2011 . . . Haha I believe it when I see it!

As I said before, these rumors of verizon iphone are silly. Wait until its announced; if ever.

That said, I prefer Verizon myself. I don't own a smart phone. My phone is a 6 year old motorola that syncs with my mac by bluetooth and that is all I need. I've had a hard tie finding a newer phone that is compatible with isync through bluetooth so I'm stuck I guess. I've even purchased duplicates of my phone to replace parts.

Anyway, its hilarious to see people claiming Verizon's coverage is not as god as AT&T. I've noticed these people mention AT&T gives them coverage except for a few locations. For these people AT&T is just fine. But if you spend a lot of time in those locations without AT&T coverage then its a different story.

I switched to Verizon because the three locations I needed coverage were not covered by my former carrier Sprint. Furthermore, when driving across country, Verizon gave me service most often.

I looked at the AT&T map and there are holes in their coverage where I need it in upstate NY. I'm guessing the coverage in East Mesa, AZ is better for Sprint and At&T now then it was a few years ago, but why would I want to switch and take that chance? (I would get coverage in East Mesa on the highway but not at my house). I'll stick with what I know works.

So Apple is gonna make a whole different CDMA phone just for Verizon? Good luck with the resale value on that black sheep crappy iPhone that won't work anywhere else in the world except on Verizon.

Unlike the GSM iPhones we have now that can be unlocked and used anywhere in the world, CDMA doesn't use SIM cards so it will be locked to Verizon permanently. Have fun trying to sell those crappy phones people, have fun.

Exactly. They shut down a CDMA network here and replaced it with a GSM network. It didn't take long and the new GSM network is vastly superior with incredible data speeds. Verizon could learn a lot from that. All of the lame CDMA phones shipped here became worthless overnight but despite that everyone recognises as a massive leap forward.

There may not be very many switching if they bought their iPhones after 6/1 (oh, of course they did) because AT&T raised their cancellation fee to $325.00 (was $150.00) minus $10.00 for every full month under the contract. My wife just recently upgraded her free do nothing phone to a new free do nothing phone and had to sign a new 2 year contact. Even if I wanted to switch I would have to wait or pay big time. You think AT&T new this was coming:mad:?

On the radio here in San Antonio they announced that is is Official Verison will be carring the iPhone starting Jan 2011. Of course they could be wrong, but seems official so far... Anyway, the other downfall I see is that you can not use internet and talk on the phone at the same time with verizon. This may not be a big deal for most people, but I have been using this feature with AT&T for years now. I use my phone for both business and pleasure, and this is something that will be a deal breaker for me.

Of course, money talks, right now Verison costs more, but if they make a significant price drop and offer better services than AT&T I will of course contemplate switching.

I'm not sure what find my phone uses, but phones here are blocked by IMEI number, which means the phone itself is blocked. A new SIM would not exactly help anyone that steals the phone as it still won't work. From what I can see AT&T do IMEI level blocking too.

Of course they knew it was coming, I guess I dont blame them, but it was a screwy way of doing things. Still if the price is right, I will figure the plus and minus and costs for the entire 2 years and see if it is worth it. But from the look of things right now and the prices from verizon, I dont think they will compete much on costs right away if ever. They will probably just bank off taking some of the market from the areas where AT&T has bottle necks on data coverage etc and keep their prices the same. Lowering their data prices just for the iphone would make a lot of their other customers mad, so they would end up needing to lower the cost of data for all their customers etc (on 3G plans) which may cause them to loose more money. I guess time will tell, but either way it will be nice for some competion out there!

Ok. So exactly how do you know about the resale value or lack there of on a product that does not exist? Of course CDMA is not as big as GSM, but it is big in the US and if I understand correctly, it is big in parts of Asia.

And you are speculating on the resale value already. Sir, you are a brilliant one.

I beg to differ. VoRA does exist. Call it SVDO, 1xAdvanced, eHRPD voice, whatever you want.

But regardless of what it's called. It is being tested and will be deployed. Combine this with the testing of CSIM's and the 2 main "reasons" for no VZW iPhone, according to some, will be remedied.

VoRA does not exist. Voice doesn't traverse the CDMA network using EVDO. It uses 1xRTT. The solution to get voice and data running simultaneously has nothing to do with EVDO Rev-A, it only includes 1xRTT as voice will still traverse the 1x portion of the network and not EVDO. Thats why it doesn't exist.

If for some reason Qualcomm decided to build another solution on top of their 1X advanced solution just for Verizon(would be absolutely crazy to do this…) then you would be right but in all likelihood it's not going to happen. Until then VoRA does NOT exist.

So yes, regardless of what its called it is possible to do. Just so you know now that it's not called VoRA and has nothing to do with the Rev A network stop calling it that. When I drive somewhere I don't saying I'm walking even though I may get to the same location... big difference. Just call it SVDO and you'll make Qualcomm happier
