My major point is, that an iPhone on the CURRENT state of CDMA networks, would be gimped. That's why it won't happen anytime in the near future.

AFAIK, LTE does not support data + voice running simultaneously. Only faster data speeds.

If anyone can prove otherwise, please post.

If you can't, now is the time to quit dreaming of iPhone on Verizon.

The only way iPhone came to Bell and Telus (our CDMA networks) in Canada is because they got chunks of the GSM spectrum and built their own GSM networks.

EDIT: AND, to top that off, Apple would need to engineer/produce an entire new CDMA device.

Actually, VZW has a plan for these scenarios. VoRA is being tested right now and will allow devices on 3G to use voice & data concurrently. Taking this into account, a VZW iPhone is more than probable:

1. iPhone 3G type device. Phone will use EvDO for both voice and data, very similar to AT&T's iPhone 3G/4G. Then when LTE is more prevalent they will do a new iPhone to use that network, similar to the iPhone to iPhone 3G upgrade.

2. iPhone 4G. Phone will use EvDO for voice using VoRA and LTE for data (ala Evo).

The evolution will be towards VoLTE, but that is a little down the road.

A VZW iPhone is not impossible. I don't understand some people so dead set against it.

Assuming the iPhone does come out for Verizon in January 2011, will it be possible for the iPhone to be unlocked/jailbroken/hacked so that it can run on Sprint's network? From what I understand, both Verizon and Sprint use the same technology (though I am a bit unsure if that applies for 4G or LTE).

It would be nice if Sprint got the iPhone, if only because Sprint is much cheaper compared to Verizon and ATT.

VoRA does not exist. it's called 1X advanced or SVDO.

What are you talking about? I just saw Elvis at a Walmart parking lot loading his Tundra with 60lb bags of Purina Dog Food. I must say, He doesn't move like he used to.

Was he using an iPhone on the Verizon network? I heard him and Buddy Holly have some good jams on KXKVI.

I beg to differ. VoRA does exist. Call it SVDO, 1xAdvanced, eHRPD voice, whatever you want.

But regardless of what it's called. It is being tested and will be deployed. Combine this with the testing of CSIM's and the 2 main "reasons" for no VZW iPhone, according to some, will be remedied.

More iPhone Providers Needed!

At the current time the iPhone is being held back either because of an exclusive with AT&T or Steve Jobs requirement to make only one iPhone model. If Apple can get off its perch of maximized profits with a minimum of sales & make models of the iPhone that will work on Verizon & Sprint here in the US & probably other models for other parts of the world. It may be nice to have only one model as opposed to so many models by other companies, but their has to be a point that Apple could have with just a few models to meet the needs of customers other than AT&T in the US & other limits in other countries. In many areas AT&T just does not provide good service. The same is probably true with other cell phone companies. Just why do we just have to have only one choice to have an iPhone in the US?

I hope this rumor is true and it will be nice the iPhone has lte since Verizon is launching in Nov 26 for lte phone's. :)

What are you talking about? On my HTC Incredible, I can talk to people and use the browser/apps at the same time. The only thing I can't do when I talk to people is use the GPS navigator.

You can only talk + browse the internet if you're using WiFi for the internet.

Unless you're using a VoIP client, that is. If you use data for voice, then of course you can surf and talk at the same time over 3G.

(Note: haven't tried this myself on the Incredible, but have done it on several other Verizon handsets before.)

VoRA does not exist. it's called 1X advanced or SVDO.

1X advanced and SVDO are totally different things. The former is for handling more voice users on a cell, and the latter is for simultaneous voice and data connections. Neither one requires or infers the other.

Warren Buffet would like to have a word with you.

I don't see why they havent released one already, but it seems pointless since it'll just be refreshed in 6 months anyway... but we'll see. My upgrade pops on Feb of next month, so I guess I'll weigh my options then, whether it will be another Android phone or iPhone.

ATM, I'm loving my Moto Droid. <3

Blarg. Kinda wish Verizon would've stuck to their Android line-up. It was good competition.

Now I gotta see everyone I know get an iPhone. I'll stick to my Droid.

The big difference is that there are more iPhone users out in the wild in the US than Android users.

Actually their might be more iPad users in the wild in the US than all Android handsets combined.

And the iPhone 4 may actually be closing in on the total number of Android handsets sold already.

And no one Android model is close to any of the iPhone models (from the first to the iPhone 4) in sales.

That is the big difference.

This still doesn't mean the data is different. Didn't ATT just say that most iPhone user use less then 250mb of data a month? Plus Verizon has not just Android but other phones too that use lots of data (same as ATT but VZW has more users period) There have been reports that VZW and Sprint have more data going through their network than compared to ATT over the course of the year with mobile broadband added to the mix. I'LL be surprised if the VZW network transforms into the ATT network with similar issues if the iPhone ever launches.

OMFG! SERIOUSLY! ITS NOT HAPPENING! Jesus H. Christ. How mentally challenged are you people that think it is?

This makes what? Version 6? of this rumor. It's been "coming to Verizon in 6 months" for like 3 years! I get that you want to get an iphone on verizon. WE GET IT. Now you have to get the reality that it's not coming to verizon. Apple is not going to make another CDMA version of the phone just to work with one carrier. Do you not understand that? Now when LTE is rolled out and common place like 3G today *then* we well re-evaluate an iphone coming to verizon. But holy mother of god, seriously, youve all really got to come to grips with the jesus phone not coming to verizon. Seriously. Really. Stop taking the blue pill. Really. Please. This is getting as pathetic as the Birthers(tm).

90,000,000 potential iPhone sales.

If he hasn't already inked a deal, Jobs has certainly thought long and hard about that number.

He launched iPhone on EDGE for crying out loud. You think he gives a crap if it underperforms?!? If there is slow data?!? He doesn't even care if you have bad cell phone reception because you hold your phone 'wrong'.

I can't read Job's mind. I don't know what he thinks. But being #1 and selling the most product is NOT his goal and never HAS been. It's about making the best products possible. ALSO regardless of my vitriol remember a very important thing, that Verizon *had* the chance to carry the iphone as the exclusive carrier and decided that instead of conceding to jobs list of demands: No verizon logo on the phone, no control over the software or updates or what features it can do, etc they decided to tell apple to get bent.
That was their choice. And one jobs, based on history, is not likely to forget.
I see him having no interest in coming to Verizon after they rejected his offer to give them the iphone in the first place. Regardless of the number of users that *may* buy a verizon iphone. Verizon has android, thats the ship they put their eggs in and thats going to be the ship they either find the new world in or crash and sink in the middle of the ocean with.

Ok sorry for my misspelling. Out of the product cycle. Lets see Apple Inc. releases a new iPhone every year since 2007. Apple would release a phone in January only to update it June? That doesn't make sense. That is out of the product cycle.

Doesn't matter as much as with other products. Due to carrier lock-in, there are 2 completely different groups of customers, who won't be switching/upgrading back and forth between carriers twice a year. Overlapped, but incompatible products with orthogonal product cycles might even help smooth out Apple's phone revenue in the U.S. and China (and the very few other places that have both networks).

Im going to say Not happening for 1 major reason and that is because it would be only 5 months away from a refreshed iPhone 5 if it happens it happens together.

Well, not if Apple releases a 4G/LTE iPhone 5 in January for Verizon and AT&T. With the rate Android phones are advancing, Apple can't really keep the iPhone on a strict 12-month product cycle. Either expect multiple iPhone models, or a shorter (8-10 month) refresh cycle.

The long wait also build up the demand. It's not all about specs when it comes to the iPhone.

It's not impossible. Just nowhere in the near future. Not before 2012.

it's a shame ATT had nearly four years to get their network up to speed with Verizon's or at the very least, fix their image that their network was just as strong. I don't think they've done either.

Ha Ha so very true +1000 !!!!

I believe this rumor this time. Why? Because I just upgraded to an HTC Incredible.

Plus, all the little "signs" point to a 2011 release.

On the plus side, I'll be able to hold my HTC phone anyway I want and still be able to use it.

See you in 2012 for iPhone 5 or 6.

You AT&T grubs who say "not happening" or "impossible" have no clue what you're talking about. It's gonna happen if its gonna happen. Get over the fact that your **** network isn't gonna be the only one with this phone.

Anyways on another note, I have family who are execs at a major electronic company and have been in agreements with Verizon for January for a "device that costs $199, but returns no residuals or activation return." They have asked Verizon why they would carry a phone like that (when they normally get around $600 per activation, selling a phone for $199 will undoubtedly make them lose money) and Verizon's response was "it is guaranteed to bring traffic into your store."

Now currently, the only phone that does such this is the iPhone on AT&T so I find it hard to believe it would be anything OTHER than the iPhone.

AND on another note, for those of you who still don't see why Steve Jobs didn't announce or mention any future Verizon iPhone is not only because of contractual agreements with AT&T but because if he announced a better faster iPhone in the Fall, it is likely they would not have sold over a million iPhones last week ;) Smart business.

Also, keep in mind: The first iPhone on Verizon may not be 4G LTE. Even when Verizon launches their 4G LTE network on November 15, 2010, most phones still won't support it.
