Pls post a hack asap after release to remove all the funky Verizon logos we will have to endure. V cast my ass.

haha I didn't even think about that. Hopefully they take the Droid route, and have a "Verizon" set of apps you can get free in the AppStore but don't pre-install them.

I was pleasantly surprised to see very few Verizon applications on my Droid. Hopefully they go the same route.

If it's like the AT&T iPhone, it won't have any Verizon logos, or any traces of V Cast.

I agree, Verizon wants this phone so bad on their network i'm sure they're playing by apple's rules. And one could assume that there is the chance that there will be free Visual Voicemail on the ViPhone as well.

Even if there isn't just get Google Voice, setup your voicemail to use the service, and it'll do the visual side for you and jump phone to phone/carrier to carrier.

Ya know?

It's confirmed (WSJ Link).

Verizon's CDMA network is built COMPLETELY different from how AT&T's is built. It's a huge limitation that prevents ANY phone on their network (iPhone, Android, BlackBerry, etc.) from being able to talk and access the web at the same time.

A quick Google search will show the number of people upset about this. Also, there's some articles about the iPhone being able to support it if Version changes a few things with their network. But if it happens, that's another story.

EDIT: This is the reason why Apple made those iPhone ads awhile back that say, "Can your phone and your network do that?"

Doesn't matter, AT&T will drop the call way before you even fire up the Yelp app.

:D

People's comments on YouTube are so funny.

okay possibly stupid question... but i'm confused...

i remember the apple commercials where they highlighted how on their 3G that the iPhone could do voice/data at the same time, at the time when verizon was pulling their "there's a map for that" ads. so i assume the verizon iphone can do voice/data simultaneously as well?

CDMA is able to support voice/data simultaneously with a revision called SVDO. However Verizon doesn't currently implement it but has said they would work on it. Also, it requires something in the chipset to make it work, which would render current CDMA phones unable to work on it.

It doesn't require hardware upgrades on Verizon's end, but I am curious how real Verizon is wanting to upgrade to it if they are really pushing their LTE rollout.

@Geckotek, yes I read it.

$30 for unlimited > $25 for 2GB

that's how verizon's plan is more expensive.

Edit: NVM, I see you are only addressing users that use less than 2GB. However, I'd much rather pay the extra $5/month (like I am now) to know I'll never have an overage if my usage changes. Data usage is going up...not down.

I should also point out that most of the AT&T users on here fought tooth and nail to get that same extra $5/month plan.

Ummm, that is not what I would consider concurrent use. You are using GPS, a call comes in and GPS STOPS. You talk, then get off the call and then go BACK to using GPS. That is not concurrent use as I see it. If I am not understanding you PLEASE correct me.

Here is my idea of concurrent use... you are using GPS, a call comes in you put it on speaker and go back to GPS WHILE talking.

Understand, I am not calling you a liar but I want to make sure we are talking the EXACT same situation. If I am not understanding, please correct. I am more interested in getting the actual result then who is right/wrong.

Yes, that is how it works on my Blackberry on Verizon. No problem using Garmin on the phone and talking at the same time, as long as you are already, enroute. It just can't load the initial maps while you are talking.

They will use unlimited data to bait as many unsuspecting customers as possible....then yank it just like AT&T did with the iPad. Typical slime ball cellular carrier tactic.

Steve

Uh...but the people that signed up for unlimited will still get unlimited. After (if) they pull the unlimited plans, no one is forced to sign up anymore. I'm failing to see how this is a "slime ball cellular carrier tactic".

Um..... yeah. And anyone that continued to pay month to month got to keep unlimited data on their iPad (same with iPhone), effectively maintaining a contract with AT&T.

BTW, Verizon does not and never will have unlimited. They have 5GB plans that cost TONS if they decide to charge you for the overages.

IF (big IF) Verizon gets the iPhone, it will carry the same plans that Droids currently do. There will be, at best a $20 1GB plan, a $35 3GB plan and a $50 5GB plan, the same model they currently follow.

The only way I will be enticed away from AT&T is if another carrier offers mobile wifi hotspot direct from the iPhone and it costs me less than the mobile mifi I have through Virgin Mobile while still delivering the quantity of service I demand for ALL of my mobile devices. Right now the iPhone itself isn't capable of that without Jailbreak (which I refuse to do again, every time I have, the device turned to crap), so it's not even a carrier issue yet.

Man you have no clue.. My wife added two Droids.. One is her's and the other is my daughter's and the wife pays $30 per phone for date and IT IS UNLIMITED...

LoL, Omg!! AT&T is soo screwed.
So Sad.:)

AT&T will be a sinking ship.

No, they won't be. AT&T will be just fine.

Ya they'll be just fine they'll probably get note worthy android phones now that apple isn't top billing and they have WP7 phones to them selves. Apples clear win is only currently held by it's tight integration with your intertainment Eco system and ease of use.

I knew Verizon was coming from last fall's Wall Street Journal story, but as to when, it still seemed like a long ways off.

Then right before 60 minutes on CBS, the newsflash comes on and announces a tidbit on Apple Verizon. So it's here after all that speculation as to when.

I will seriously laugh so incredibly hard if the VPhone is not announced. I will go home and toast myself with a drink while reading all the pissed off comments. We've been down this road before, to the point national news saying "The Verizon iPhone is coming".....TWO YEARS AGO. It's like the end of the world. It keeps getting predicted and proven wrong over and over. Apple has not announced it, therefore I won't believe it yet.

There's good things that would happen with a Verizon iPhone, but still, it's way more fun to watch the hype just get utterly destroyed.

Rollover minutes are great if you live on the edge between plans. Otherwise it's strange to hear people talk about their thousands of minutes that will never get used... it simply means they had too big a plan.

Believe me, if I could get less than 450 minutes to my AT&T plan I would in a second. I have thousands of roll over minutes and thats life. I have considered getting rid of the iPhone but its data usage is way too useful.

With Verizons friends plan (11 free numbers) I barely scratch the surface of my actual minutes as well.

90% of my calling is to my wife/friends and they're on the free list (or already have Verizon) so that part of ATT never interested me (although I admit it's a good idea for some, and good marketing).

** UPDATE: Just checked. Hell I only use 8 of my 11 numbers so I still have spots for 3 more non-Verizon numbers if I want.

The $30 data plan that Verizon requires only goes to 5gb, after that you are charged extra.

WRONG....

Just as I was saying earlier. Where are these people getting this information from? This may have been the case years ago, but plans have long since changed. People should look up the information before posting about things they don't know.

At this point, I would be surprised if the Verizon iPhone was not announced, the timing of the announcement after CES and making a point of 1.11.11 @ 11am, I doubt that would be just to tout LTE or any other android phone or table, ie. Bionic and Xoom. If it is announced, my credit card is ready, if it's not, I'll be a little bummed, but then I'll move on and wait another phone cycle. :D

This comes straight from Verizon website go look it up yourself and I can found the same info in my wife's Verizon Account... It still the same as the pic. shows..

the 1.11.11 @ 11 seems like a "stars are aligning" message - i mean, if anyone has a better explanation for it, please..
