I will seriously laugh so incredibly hard if the VPhone is not announced. I will go home and toast myself with a drink while reading all the pissed off comments. We've been down this road before, to the point national news saying "The Verizon iPhone is coming".....TWO YEARS AGO. It's like the end of the world. It keeps getting predicted and proven wrong over and over. Apple has not announced it, therefore I won't believe it yet.

There's good things that would happen with a Verizon iPhone, but still, it's way more fun to watch the hype just get utterly destroyed.

With the news out there, and all the media outlets announcing this, what are the odds that this won't happen?

But I have seen this, too. There was a long time when there was this supposed concept of an LCD iMac and it took a very long time, or what seemed to be, before Apple got it out. If Verizon doesn't pair with Apple like almost all the media have announced, then many will be bummed.

I hope you are wrong, but anything is possible. I just don't know how the media will explain all their Verizon Apple talk.

Also back in the days of the G4, there was always rumors about speed bumps but at one point the G4 stayed at the same speed for 18 months and it was at this point people realized Intel and AMD were getting ahead of Motorola. And now Macs run on Intel.

This comes straight from Verizon website go look it up yourself and I can found the same info in my wife's Verizon Account... It still the same as the pic. shows..

NO, I was agreeing with you, as I currently have a Droid with truly unlimited data. I was referring to those who believe there is a 5gb limit on the unlimited plan and continue to spread this false information.

Yeah.

Soon, everything will be running on ARM SoC's, you watch.

Oh sorry it just sound like the other way... But it is true that people have no clue...

HAHA. So my wife text'd me, I'm at work, saying that she's reading the news. So I responded "about how I'm getting an iPhone soon?"

Her reply was basically that www.damnyouautocorrect.com is so funny it's the only reason she's down to let me buy it on release. lol.

Thank you internet!

WRONG....

That's what sucks with Verizon's data plan, nothing in-between. It's either a measly 150MB that might be enough for grandma or unlimited that will be a waste for 95 percent of Verizon customers. How about a decent 500MB for $15 and 1GB for $20?

Is there speculation on how much Verizon's phone LTE plans may eventually cost? For example, how much more than the $30 for unlimited data right now might they charge for unlimited LTE, for instance? Are we talking an extra $10, or an extra $30?

Also, does LTE on Verizon allow for data/phone at the same time?

Either way, I'll probably spring for the iphone right away, and then possibly bite the bullet and pay full price for the one that gets released next year (and sell the first one to help pay for it).

I can confirm this is NOT a limitation. I have a Droid Eris on VZW and more than once, I've been using it as a GPS, had a call come in, picked up and talked, and went right back to using GPS. Sometimes, it will freeze while making the switch from GPS to cellular and back again, but my guess is this has more to do with the phone than the network (the Eris is a piece of crap).

Hehe, says the man with the username "NoExpectations"

OK, to be clear - I want to use these concurrently, not switch from one to another. I'm in sales, and most of my time is on the road. The iPhone sits in a TomTom cradle, guiding me to my next destination. Sometimes a call will come in that I need to take, in which case I answer with my bluetooth headset. I want to be able to talk on the headset while the GPS app is still running in the foreground, providing directions. Is this how you're using your Droid on Verizon?

Ok, given the history I can understand some doubt. But what will you do if it is announced?

Also, since "we've been down this road before", if you had been paying attention last time we were down it...you'd notice some major differences.

Seriously, if people don't at least admit there is a good chance the Verizon iPhone will be announced Tuesday, they are total fools.

It's just as much as fun as those who don't want it to happen, those in denial and those like you. I will re-post your comment that you have written and bring it back Tuesday afternoon and laugh my ass off at you when the Verizon iPhone is going has been announced. GG.

Check some earlier posts (I know this is page 11 and getting long) but in short here is what I got from another user:

1. The voice guide works.
2. Maps don't update while actively on the call. Voice guides DO work on the call.
3. Maps will update after the call is over.

Now to the why - which is guestimation - gps and voice guides can work because they work off a different radio/antenna. The maps don't update because that info comes over the internet which is the same antenna the cell phone uses.

CURRENTLY, Verizon's CDMA system in CURRENT shipping cell phones does not support concurrent use of data and voice.

There are TECHNICAL options available - not rumors - where CDMA COULD do voice and data at the same time. How, is a bit uncertain (at least in this thread) whether it is done only with a chip in the phone or if a phone chip and system upgrade is needed. From what I can tell, it looks like only a new chip is needed and some backend software work on VZN's part to make this possible.

It does seem like then, a viPhone could have the new chip with support from VZN to make CDMA tech use voice and data. Or just use AT&T - that I know for sure works.

I'm out on this thread. Will see you all Tuesday after the announcement or on other threads!

Which service you use is very much a regional/local issue for many of us. here in the Bay Area, At&t sucks. Constant dropped calls and no bars. When I go to NYC and DC, same story. I also have a Verizon dumb phone and it has lots of bars when my iphone 3Gs has none.
Glad you live in an area where At&t is good, but lots of us don't. Or, maybe you work for At&t.
Oh, and by the way, Consumer Reports' readers survey results showed that At&t is the worst network of all four. Verizon was highest rated.
Of course lots of us want to switch.

Well, I certainly don't work for AT&T and I live in southern california and know dozens of iPhone owners and they are all having no problems. My sister and her husband live in Mill Valley by the way, and they are are in and out of SF all the time and they also have no problems. I'm certainly not suggesting that no one is having issues with AT&T but I thing it's way overblown.

So if the Verizon iPhone gets announced on Tuesday, does that mean you'll cry...for joy? And perhaps raise a toast to all of the new Verizon brothers and sisters that will join the "exclusive" iPhone club soon.:D

From my understanding of how data work on CDMA atm... Your using data on your phone and a call comes in... the data stops when the call comes in... you hang up the phone data resumes... if you are using tomtom or navigon if I remember correctly the maps are preloaded anyways so navigation should not stop since they are already loaded on your phone... If you are using waze or the garmin app navigation would stop since they download as needed. If your making a call and put them on speaker phone and try browsing the internet to look up a phone number on CDMA it should not work. You would have to end the call before data could be accessed. If I am wrong someone please correct me.

Why do people believe this?

It's not happening.

Stop being fools.

I wish it would, just so that people can stop talking about it.

With all of the information we have that points that direction, how can you not believe it at least a little?

Like I said earlier, if people don't at least admit there is a good chance the Verizon iPhone will be announced Tuesday, they are total fools.

This sounds exactly right although I do not know for sure about those specific products having maps included. But if that is the case (and I believe I recall it to be) then everything you said is 100% correct.

Doesn't anyone find it odd that the RSVP email address for the Verizon Wireless event is not one from Verizon, but webershandwick.com?

Even if Web Shandwick was Verizon's PR company, they would never use their own domain name for the email.

I would like to see proof of an actual event on Tuesday.

I know that Apple is not having one.

And the availability of an iPhone on the Verizon network is big deal. Apple would be the ones announcing it, not Verizon. And it would be done in NYC.

People fly to Steve Jobs and they share his stage, not the other way around.

And Business Insider is not a very good source of information either.

When did Larry Solomon make that statement and to whom? BI does not even provide a link back to the original statement. For all we know Larry Soloman said this with the iPhone 3G came out.

BI achieved it's goal though, increased traffic to their site... Once again people are being made to look foolish.

All 1's, hmmm. First 4G phone on Verizon? If so, HTC is gonna be piiiiiiiissed!

HTC

Wouldn't that be amazing? I've been wondering about the series of 1's, and if they're significant at all.

On another note, I think that (if this hasn't already been done) we should compile a list of the users here that have blatantly denied that the Verizon iPhone is on its way. Hell, if they're all going to 'toast themselves with drinks' and 'laugh their asses off' at us when it 'doesn't happen', I'd like to do the same when it actually does.

Then again, finally owning the iPhone will be more than enough for me. :D
