So according to Reddit - you can indeed buy it from Apple... See here:

I'm wondering about this also but I've not heard a lot of people saying they have done this successfully in the Verizon preorder thread and I've read some people were told by Verizon that it had to be purchased at a Verizon store or authorized dealer. I'm sure Verizon will take the phone in trade but whether they give you the $650 credit over 24 months or just their trade-in value hasn't been definitively established. I would think that more people would have done it with the delivery delays at Verizon if it were possible.

I had a preorder, picked up from Apple Store because they had in stock. One thing to note I had to pay $20 per phone activation. I cancelled my preorder once I was getting the phones in the Apple Store. I set up the phones on the Verizon device payment plan in the Apple Store. Today I called Verizon asked if I could use the same boxes to return my phones since I cancelled my preorder. They confirmed that I could get the credit even though I purchased through Apple Store. According to the site the device payment plan is the requirement. Of course the Rep could be wrong so I don't have any conformation yet. Guess I will know when I send in my phones.

I've already shipped off my old device, but I forgot to put the customer receipt in there. Does anyone know if they'll decline my trade in? I'd sure hate to lose my phone over a paper that's pointless.
I don't think you have to have that paper in there. That is your receipt. If I'm reading it correctly

Anyone else confirm?

I have a late delivery date with Verizon while my Apple Store has stock come and go daily.. I'd rather just cancel my Verizon order and get it from the Apple Store.

I chatted with a Verizon rep, and they said I can't get it from the Apple Store if I want to take advantage of the $650 trade in promo. But they also said I can't buy it from Costco or Sams Club - which is definitely not correct. ...so I can't take their word for it.
According to the terms on the site only requirement is purchasing on the device payment plan. Doesn't say you have to purchase from Verizon directly. At least I'm hoping that holds up.

If you want the $650 trade in you MUST get it from Verizon store. If you. If you buy from Apple you won't get the promotion.

Yes, I spoke with a VZW rep and they assured me that it would be fine.

I can confirm that if you purchase from Apple you can take advantage of the trade-in offer. This is the link that the Verizon rep sent me to start the trade-in process.
https://www.verizonwireless.com/device-recycle/

You can also take it to a Corporate Verizon store for trade-in.
I originally ordered 2 iPhone 7 pluses from Verizon but I was able to find them at my local Apple store. Canceled my Verizon order and walked out with 2 iPhone 7+'s.

Dumb offer. Too many catches. Main one is you're stuck with it for 2 years or longer. Can't pay it off. Can't upgrade it. Or lose the credits. Sell old phone, buy subsidized = win. This offer = lose.

Who said you can't upgrade? I spoke to several VZW reps and said you can upgrade next year if you trade in your phone. The amount of credits you get at that time next year will be essentially 50% of the phone anyways which means you're able to trade in and upgrade then.

Credits don't start for 2-3 billing cycles. It'll basically be 240 or so in credits by preorder time next year. I'd pay it in full straight away if they gave the whole amount. But it's a garbage offer so nope. It's designed to keep you around.

Take the 450 subsidy while you can.

I'm not going anywhere. And verizon isn't the only carrier offering this. All 4 carriers in the US are. But to each their own, do what makes you happy.

Nope. You're wrong. Please stop spreading misinformation if you don't know. This has been indepemdtly refuted by multiple independent sources already.

I'm coming from a iPhone 6 so it's a great offer. If you were coming from a 6s probably not the best offer. Really depends on the phone.

The credits don't start until the 2nd or 3rd billing cycle but on that first cycle, they will credit you for all the months you missed. So after 12 months, you've gotten 12 credits.

I didn't catch this until the confirmation email was received...it appears my plan is now "The new Verizon Plan Large 8 GB" for $79.50, instead of the $70/mo. it was previously. WTF?

Beneath that it says "(Device Payment Contract)". Did I process this wrong? It indicated I would be receiving $400 credit for my 5s.

Has anyone gotten a confirmation of accepted or reviewed? Mine should be arriving there sometime today.

Sorry, if this has been covered but I can't easily search on mobile. Can you do this promotion and still keep unlimited data?
