We've had a Verizon sales person join here recently and spoke about his annoyance at customers not purchasing insurance. It has also transpired that he is very anti iPhone too so perhaps it is a general feeling from their training? It could of course be that he just doesn't like them and enough to tell a mac friendly site all about it. The point above about the extra commission from other branded devices make sense and its the same in any business. Sale people rarely sell you something unless it profits the company they work for better than yourself.

Without reading all of these posts, I'd assume it depends on if you go to a dealer or a corporate store, Also if you're talking CDMA only iPhones vs lte iPhones.

I don't really see how. Carrying the iPhone was entirely Verizon's choice; if they didnt like the terms, they could've continued to say no. Sprint would've loved that, I'm sure.

You're right; before that it was $18. But correlation does not infer causation in this case: a more commonly-accepted reason for the fee change was because AT&T upped their fees, first. Collusion-like rate and fee increases between the top two wireless carriers DO have a hisotircal trend that can be tracked. "Because of Apple," not so much.

What problem? That Verizon's $110.9 billion in revenue for 2011 wasn't big enough for them? Some problem. Sorry, Apple isn't putting them in the poor house, at all. All the fee increases have been a cash grab to see what the market will bear. If you want to blame a single model of phone for everything that Verizon has done that is anti-consumer, than either you've drank the Kool-Aid, or have a comission to earn.

Your arguments also fail to explain why carriers like T-Mobile and Sprint don't feel the need to enact such onerous policies and fees even though they too, are selling iPhones.

No, I'm actually very much right about wireless carrier employees getting commissions on activations, and it does vary by which model of phone they sell.

You're contradicting yourself by saying the above, and then claiming my statement is false.

I haven't been here in a while because I changed jobs. I still sell phones, but rather than being at an indirect retailer, I'm now at a Verizon store. I can now assure you that your information is both archaic and incorrect. Before 4/22/12, there was no upgrade fee for Verizon. At least, not after 10/10/11. As far as commission goes, I'm getting paid the same as I would other smartphones, and I have more attachment opportunities with the iPhone than some other devices. However, as I mentioned before, the iPhone is not encouraged to sell, because of profit. I'm not missing any meals if I sell only iPhones. So there's no need to think that we are trying to trick you into a crappy phone. There are just better options than an iPhone, but that's another discussion, and more often than not, when you shop in a store, we actually are trying to help you

So much truth here, obviously your average joe doesn't know the difference of dealers/indirect and corporate owned locations, this post is some of the only truth I've read on this thread.

Said the guy whose paycheck depends on people believing this.

Sorry, but I have had conversation with current corporate store employees, and I have a very high degree of confidence that the info I have regarding motivation to sell away from iPhones IS correct.

Does your DM know you're posting here?

I do know that Verizon can offer Android accessory packages and give more discounts with Androids than iPhones though. I had a Verizon manager tell me that Apple does not allow for such discounts with their accessories.
