i have heard from someone that works there that they do to make any bonuses on the iPhone like to do other phones that they sell, so its in the sales persons best interest to sell you something other then an iPhone so they earn more money off comissions.

Not sure about verizon specifically. But my uncle is regional manager of Cartoys ( a top 5 mobile phone retailer in the USA) And they get specific training from android based manufacturers on what to tell customers as to why android is better the iphone. It is really funny because he will give this stupid arguments that are believable but if you know anything about anything you know it is a half lie! so I'm guessing they get specific training because their android phones are more numerous and better the AT&Ts offerings

No matter what you here, it's a commission issue. Verizon employees get $5 commission per sale on each iPhone. They get more for Android phones. The only one I know of specifically is $40-$45 commission for the HTC Thunderbolt.

Some people will come on here and say different but this is a fact. Verizon employees have told me this on multiple occasions.

From what I've read and been told is the VZW reps make less commission when they sell an iPhone as opposed to an Android device or other phones. I was told the same by a few friends who work at AT&T also. I assume it's due to the iPhone basically selling itself.

Thanks for sharing that; I like to help as much as I can and then stand aside when I don't know for sure because there's bound to be somebody out here with actual information :)

And that's great input that's coming into the topic; I don't watch television much myself but I normally see the ATT iPhone ad, not a Verizon.

I think the reason behind this is, well as others have already stated, ATT sells the iPhone and Verizon sells Android phones.... that is how it's always been.

I think Verizon knows that the people getting the iPhone on Verizon are people who do not want to go to ATT, hence the lack of advertisement because, and I'm assuming here, the target audience already knows the iPhone is on ATT/Verizon due to the ads that came out when they first got released on the network with the iPad.

Why does it matter and who cares? If you know you want an iPhone, buy one.

I tend to agree with you in principle; this only becomes a problem if someone is pushed into a phone that isn't best for them. If a salesman/saleswoman is anti-iPhone, then someone could be pushed into a phone that wouldn't best suit them.

Which is like having a backlit keyboard; it's alright to not have but once you do, you wonder how you got by without one.

Right. I'm on Wifi pretty much all the time now that i'm back on campus. Doesn't bother me, but I could see how it could come in handy. With that being said, for that reason alone, it doesn't make the Verizon iPhone not a "real" iPhone.

the same thing happened to me at my local costco. the saleswoman said that the android has more compatabilities, and that the iphone wasnt as complex. but thats the beauty of the iphone. its very simple to use, but its still a very high end smart phone. screw android. ios is kicka$$.

When I bought the Thunderbolt, the first thing the guy asked me was, "don't you want the iPhone?" I told him no. I then proceeded to ask him why he was pushing the iPhone. "Well, it's a great device, good build quality, feels nice, good call quality..." What about the OS? *crickets* And that's why I wanted the Thunderbolt.

Sometimes, you simply need to make someone feel stupid without telling them they're stupid.

If you've ever done sales then you'll understand. That they need to clear inventory, and they know that the iPhone 4 sells well, but the other phones don't. That's why Verizon is pushing so much on 4G Android phones.

The reason being, they have sold against it for several years. It is hard for them to get out of that mode. I had to tell them to not sell against it because it is one of theres now. They laughed and said I know! Lol

I got mine on release day so they were plenty excited to push it. I do know in a town right by me in the AT&T store the iPhone stand is right next to the door. In the Verizon store in the same town the same display stand is in an uninviting corner.

yeah this is true its happened to like 3 friends of mine that went to get an iphone and left with a piece of junk android phone. I go "why the hell did you waste an upgrade on that?" "the guy at verizon told me it was better then the iphone and much cheaper." idiots.

Is there a difference in the commission percent off an iPhone between AT&T and Verizon?

Much ado about nothing. Anyone who's done any shopping for phones understand there's a variety of approaches sales people use. They have a job to do which involves taking direction from their superiors just like most jobs. I certainly don't let it bother me, I just let them make their pitch, and tell them what I came in to buy. It's simple really.

Never had that experience in a VZW store. When I bought mine the sales guys were fans of everything. They openly talked about the pros and cons of each system/OS.
When we were waiting on the number to port, we had a blast messing around with the HTC WP7 phone.

I had the same experience at two Verizon stores in Washington today. My friend was looking to get an iPhone, so I took her to the nearby Verizon store, walked up to the counter and said "We'd like to upgrade her line to an iPhone, 16GB black". The rep said "Sorry, we only have one 32GB in stock. We have much better phones than that, though, let me show you the thunderbolt." He then proceeded to tell us that the iPhone was "comparatively a piece of crap." we walked out, dissatisfied, and drove to the other Verizon store in town. Same ********. The rep told us how most people who bought an iPhone ended up unhappy with it, and then tried to sell me a droid 3. Walked out of both stores today very unhappy with customer service.

I'm really sick of the crap the Verizon reps pull. It happens everywhere. Apple needs to do something about it, it's clearly losing them some sales - even though most of the time, iPhone sells itself.
