I concur

I can also verify this. It looks like they're doing more processing when the new safari page button is pressed. You can see the slow-down occur when you do the following:
Open a new safari page, goto a website, rotate the phone, open another page, goto a website, rotate the phone, open another page...repeat. Each time you open a page after rotating, it takes a little bit longer than the previous time. This makes me feel like theyre doing extra processing on all the open pages and rotating them before displaying them.

They fixed a small but annoying bug I had noticed ever since I first got the phone.

Sometimes you couldn't close vertical tabs while in landscape mode because the title of the pages would block out the close button.

Now, if you switch modes with multiple pages open, the tabs automatically change to the correct mode and you can close them properly! Yay!

Error 0xE000004

I did the ringtone hack before the first update. Once I updated to 1.0.1 and restored the phone, I left the custom ringers off. Strangely, I received error 0xE000004 while updating to the current version (1.0.2), yet in Settings -> About, it says I am using version 1.0.2 (1C28) and iTunes says the same.

I will try restoring and see if I can update again. I wonder if this happened because I have a movie that won't sync in my iTunes that is still checked...

after the update the volume of my ringer was set lower than full, haven't gotten any calls to see if its any louder tho.

I noticed that when you click on the html address it now brings up a "share" and cancel option. I remember when I first got the phone that you could not see the html address after clicking on it because it would go into that magnifying mode and the address was above the top of the screen.

Did they fix that with the last update or this one?

Mine looks like it's working fine. In fact, instead of getting 1-2 bars of reception in my dorm room like usual, I'm getting 4-5! Now my girlfriend won't get mad at me for walking around my room during a call and dropping the signal...:p

Actually, iPhone has a dedicated chips that do decode h.264... so that part is true that it is probably more battery efficient. however, I agree that this doesn't necessarily mean anything.

arn

Ah yes, I forgot that it does have hardware decoders. Thanks for pointing that out.

Anyone else notice the new lozenge that appears when you touch the quick alpha-shortcut tab in the contact view and ipod albums views?

After accepting that this is ONLY a security update, I thought I'd check
out the only security update I personally found unnerving:
http://www.figma.com/dialerbug/

NOPE, NOT FIXED YET. Whoops.

This is interesting though. Apple knows how many DISTINCT and INDIVIDUAL iPhone customers they have piling onto iTunes and getting updates. This second security update, combined with the first, would be an excellent way to see how "ACTIVE" their customers are in getting iPhone updates. A great story to share with potential partners if the "update rate" is high. My guess, the percentage of quick updaters will be higher than any other phone on the market, everytime they do it.

Also, once again, a tremendous WARNING SHOT across the bow of modders. In order to update, you'll need to RESTORE. How totally and completely sucky. Now I'm *completely* not interested in any mods. AT ALL. (Though honestly, nothing was compelling much anyways).

De Ja Vu. I'm going to go ahead and submit this directly to Apple. Meh.

Also added ringtones with iPhoneRingtoneMaker. The install went perfectly and the ringtones are still there.

Saw your post so I went for it and installed the update, yep no restore, no problems and my ringtones are still there!! Love that app.:)
Thanks Damien too.

EXCELLENT CATCH, deluxeicons! <EDIT>
Dang, that WAS already there - I officially eat my words.

I, like others here, am done with hacks - I had fun with them the first go-round, but after the first bug-fix and restore, I'm over it.

I waited a few days for the last update. I think I shall do the same again and hopefully not have the hangups everybody is having (maybe due to everybody trying to grab the file off of Apple's servers @ once)

i keep getting an error after the update downloads in itunes but before it loads onto my phone:

"there was a problem downloading the iphone software....An unknown error occurred (-48).

Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again."

anyone else?

I haven't been able to shake this "error" off, it's annoying as hell.

Only "hack" I have is adding Ringtones via IphoneRingtoneMaker. Update worked, no restore needed, ringtones still work.
iPhoneRingToneMaker is not a hack per say, as it is not touching the internals of the iPhone. It does not alter things in your iPhone. It simply puts the ringtone you created in the ringtone library.

An unknown error occurred (-48)

"There was a problem downloading the iPhone software for the iPhone "iPhone". An unknown error occurred (-48).

Make sure your network settings are correct and your network connection is active, or try again later."

i have gotten this error about 10 times now and my iPhone is not even hacked !!!

Anyone know what this error means or how to fix it?

EXCELLENT CATCH, deluxeicons! I'm so tired of people "seeing things" after these little bug fix updates that were already there ("hey, when I tap the tool bar in Safri the web page scrolls all the way to the top now!") and this "lozenge" that you call it (very descriptive) not only shows up, but if you hold it with your finger you can "scroll" through it and the list adjusts accordingly.

Nifty!

I, like others here, am done with hacks - I had fun with them the first go-round, but after the first bug-fix and restore, I'm over it.

The lozenge was already there.

These problems people are having is the reason why you should NOT try and hack a $600 phone. Have patience...apple will come out with what the consumer wants!

I had an issue where after sync'ing my iPhone with my Apple earpiece in the dock, I would need to turn the iPhone off and back on for the earpiece to pair with it. If I sync'd the iPhone with the earpiece not in the dock, it worked fine without repowering the iPhone.

The update seems to have fixed this. I had both in the dock and was happy to see that they paired without needing to repower the iPhone.

Do it right, no problems

I was reluctant to install the patch now that I had my iPhone "where i wanted it" with apps, mods, new icons, etc. But I thought, what the hell...so I did the following

1. Sync with iTunes to get a good backup
2. Restore the phone via iTunes which brought it up to 1.0.2
3. Re-Activated and re-synced my settings.
4. A quick jailbreak with ifuntastic, reload SSH/SFTP
5. Throw back on my ringtones, carrier logos
6. Install the Installer.app, sit on couch and re-load my apps.

Total time, 20 Minutes, didn't swear once, wife didn't even notice.

If you take the time and do it right, it's not an issue, even with a highly modded (albeit activated traditionally via ATT) iPhone.

Is it a pain? Sure. But I like my apps, the couple ringtones I added, and being on the cutting edge. I guess it's the price we pay.

So go for it, do it slow, and right, and you shouldn't have any problems.

I'm getting this too. And no it's not because the phone was modded. This error happens when it is actually trying to do the full restore. It downloads the file and then this immediately pops up... Any ideas? I've tried rebooting computer, reinstalling iTunes, just about everything I can think of. Still nada. So, I figure I'll contact apple, but can't seem to find an email address on their site, it's all phone numbers, and without my phone, makes it tough to get in touch. Well, just panicking a little bit here trying to figure out wtf to do.
