How about this angle.

The existence of the iPad Pro is holding back the iPad Air

- A9X processor
- Pencil Support
- Smart Connector
- Increased Memory

Outside of screen size, these are the biggest selling points of the iPad Pro. Yet they don't exist on the iPad Air because.... Apple is artificially withholding features in order to create a more profitable product tier.

As much as I like the iPad Pro, many many iPad fans would prefer to simply have an iPad Air 3 with all these new 2016 whiz bang "Pro"specs. But we won't get that until next year, which will in-coincidentally be when the iPad Pro gets another spec bump that the Air will not.

So (for many) it's not about iPad Pro hate, it's more about the lack of love for the more popular iPad Air.
I had the same thought when I was in the store. I love Apple but its business model is almost as becoming as Samsung.

Maybe it's because Apple fans have been spoiled for the last 10-15 years. We're now used to being the ones who innovated ahead of the tech curve. But recently it seems as if Apple is falling a bit behind. I think the iPP personifies this trend. Yes, it's a bigger and faster iPad. But the rest of the stuff seems a bit behind the curve: touch keypad, stylus, etc. While the iPP is certainly refined, there's really nothing innovative about it. And I guess that's the rub, for lots of people.

Hey, refinement is OK. For those of us who were with the Mac 20+ years ago, that's all we had. But the bar has now been raised, and many expect Apple to innovate again. Maybe that's the rub?

I have had mine for about 24 hours so far and have been blown away by the experience overall. ...And I say that coming from the recent Air 2. To me this really represents what the iPad should be. It is super fast, super fluid, super bright and immersive with whatever you're doing with it.

I can't even rationalize the speaker complaints, this quad system is awesome. They are loud and vibrant on any rotation. Perhaps there's been too much listening to beats style headphones or something.

Yes...it's big...how could you NOT know that. It's also incredibly thin. It may be the same iOS but if you thought you would just use it like the Air or Mini you're doing it wrong, frankly. Just because it's big doesn't make it a bad product. The fact that it works with a full size keyboard feels seamless.

No iOS device multitasks like this - none. Nothing refreshes, it's all instant. Switching tasks and split screening my work feels like it would on anything else.

The apps will be updated, they always are, criticizing that right now is just silly.

Complaints I can understand - iOS. I agree the icon layout right now looks wasteful, there are definitely better ways to handle that and I agree with Gruber there are some obvious keyboard enhancements that should happen. There also seem to be a few bugs, and I have seen the keyboard drop out randomly twice. All of that is likely to be fixed, and trivial.

Overall it's a near perfect device, and to me, the first that feels worthy of the "post pc" label. I don't have the Pencil yet so can't comment there. If Apple enhances iOS a bit more they will really be on to something...

MIne arrived 2 hours ago. All setup with all my settings, files and such from my Ipad air 1

I agree awesome iPad, and now makes for a perfect companion/compliment/almost replacement for my macbook pro 15 in retina. For me decision was easy. I work more and more in iOS for most of what I do. yes still a few things I do on my Macbook but I have both, good combo for me personally. I cannot speak for others, each his own row to hoe as said here ;-) I really love it. awesome iPad, those speakers are awesome, I can listen to the music on it (not that I am a pro in listening) and it sounds good.

I am glad i made the jump. My logitech smart tablet with keyboard arrives from apple tomorrow (yeah theirs still out.). I have the pencil ordered but I can wait for that have alot to do just with what I have now ;-)

I feel it's more a feeling of being let down by Apple on the software front.

I'd say most people are probably wowed by the hardware in general, speed, screen etc etc.

It's the fact it's a Mobile phone user interface blown up to 13" without hardly enhancements that is the killer.

Again and again, in review after review you hear the same. Love the device, Shame Apple have not done anything with it.
It's strange they seem to have no idea other than lets just make everything GIANT and job done.

I know we all hope they will improve upon this, but based on them doing almost nothing since the iPad1 was launched I am worried they simply don't have any ideas now, what to do.

I think that this a case, once again, where the apps have to catch up with the hardware. I think that there is a lot of potential for the iPad Pro and iOS, it will be a while before it is realized. The iPad experience will be different and it will not be a mirror of the OS X experience.

Yes indeed, the better Apps need to start flowing, and this time next year I'm sure there will be many more to pick from.
I also do REALLY hope Apple do the same. Watching the icons, the size of coasters on a 13" screen scaled up from an iPhone just looks silly.
Love the hardware and Love the prospect of the new apps coming, but so really want Apple to make more sensible use of the great new screen.

Many of the complaints about the IPP are not dissimilar to the complaints that were voiced when the nMP and the then rMBP's first became available. My guess is that it will take the next version of iOS and 6 months for new apps to show up for the hardware and software to be in sync.

I would love to think you are right.
But I thought the same thing about the 10" iPad, thinking every version of iOS would make better use of the 10" screen over the UI on the iPhone, but version after version they never did. In fact they made it worse be reducing icons in folders of what you can see.

I hope I'm wrong and Apple DO actually finally take this serious by next year.

cost is a relative factor. most subjective. for me, the fact it's Apple manufactured and offers what it does makes it nicely worth the cost :) but then, if i was a kid or a low paid worker i might think different. it is expensive whatever.
You are correct that cost is a relative factor. But one doesn't have to be a "kid" or "low paid worker" to conclude that the iPad Pro is overpriced for what it offers. Just because I can easily afford to buy it doesn't mean it is worth buying.

Then there are the accessories... The keyboard cover at $180 is obscenely overpriced... especially when compared to the outrageously overpriced Surface TypeCover at $130... which includes actual keys, backlighting, trackpad, and fingerprint scanner. Microsoft should thank Apple because it makes the TypeCover seem like a downright bargain by comparison.

I find that there are too many haters on this site. Often they don't own, can't afford, or have no real interest in the product that they are dissing and are only trying to get a rise out of folks. The micro-scrutiny is annoying when apps and iOS do not match up with the hardware on day one.

I was just at my local Apple store and spent a half-hour with the iPad Pro. I have been using an iMac with an iPad as my desktop and mobile solutions for a long while. We have a rMB but my wife is using it with her iPad Mini. The screen on the iPad Pro is truly amazing, so is the keyboard. I went back and forth between the rMB's and rMBP's and the iPad Pro, and everytime I thought that the iPad Pro's screen was amazing. The guy next to me had Office Excel open and he as using the split screen option(s), etc. The iPad Pro did seem too big when I first saw it but after holding and using it for a bit, it seemed perfectly fine. For the most part, I like the iOS apps and while I can't use the exact same tools that are on my iMac I am fully functional with an iPad. The only thing that I did not like is the 128GB storage, I would much prefer 250 - 512 GB. Still, with Dropbox and, to a lesser extend, iCloud, the iPads work. I haven't ordered an iPad Pro yet, but I am likely to in the near future.

A tad harsh, IMO. Sure there are some haters but some of us just dont find it to be a worthy adition to our arsenal. Doesnt mean were cheap or cant afford it. Just means we dont want to buy one.

My "whatever else" is a rMBP that I just got at BB. $250 off less another $100 off open box. Guess the IPP is a goner now. I only had it since yesterday so really cannot miss it at this point.

There ya go. Exactly what I was talking about. :)

Worth is a relative term. What's "worth it" for me may not be "worth it" to you. For me, the iPad Pro is worth every penny. Nothing like it out there. If it's not "worth it' to you, then great. Don't buy it.

I don't think people will ever undestand that concept :p The irrational hate will continue with every new Apple product

I have a feeling it'll be iOS X. A new experience that will bring more desktop functionality to the iPad.

My only gripes:

1. Cost, a little pricey for what it is.
2. Slow charging
3. Lack of accessories at launch.

Other than that, happy owner here.

Here's a simple concept: you don't like the device? Don't buy it. But also don't care if someone else does buy it and does like it.

I really like the iPad Pro. It's a hoot for reading and surfing plus the speed is very noticeable compared to my current generation iPad Air.

I'm not overly offended by the price if Apple does more with the software. iOS shows its weaknesses on this beast, I'd rather have some windowing or cleaner ways to run multiple apps.

Accessories are obscenely priced while we wait for third party stuff like cases.

Still a nice additional for Apple.

I just ordered the 32GB wifi version of the pro. I'm very interested in how this device will fair against my iPad Air 2 and 3 year old 15" rMBP. I primarily use my iPad Air as a content consumption device but I have a strong inclination towards larger screens as I find it just makes things more enjoyable to use. I'm going to test it out. If it doesn't work out I'll return it. No harm no foul. I was dead wrong when it came to the iPhone 6 plus. I thought it would be too big but now I can never go back to a smaller size. I tend not to criticize products until I've tried them.

Same here!

As an enthusiast and lover of all geeky toys, I think it's fabulous.

As someone who sometimes gives realistic advice to others about technology, I cannot in good conscience recommend it to anyone looking for an everyday computer because of it's current price point.

Welcome to a forum that is populated by a wide variety of people who all have their own preferences.

If you don't want to read things that make you uncomfortable remember participation here is voluntary.

No one is forcing you to be here.

- iOS is a little behind for a truly enterprise solution, for example, lack of multi-user login, lack of a file system that allows easy syncing of desktop files

This goes along with what I've concluded about the recent number of Apple releases.
No KILLER 1st party apps. I returned my Apple TV 4 for this reason. The iPad Pro if it's going to be deserving of the name needs enterprise features to be the KILLER 1st party app that differentiates it as you described.

I think any major changes to iOS just because you have a bigger screen would be stupid. They are trying to limit OS fragmentation. That's why there are no major changes on the phone front with the much larger iPhone 6+. There will be tweaks, allowing more icons on the screen in later iOS updates, but the feel and the look will stay the same. It's not OSX and it never will be. I'm just looking to the apps to show the difference.
