I'd be happy if Apple modified the Mac Mini to be one inch thick, the size of a 15 inch MacBook Pro, then add a screen. I can add the keyboard and mouse.

I carry two MacBook Pros with me. I guess they're almost an inch thick when put together.

That will never happen. You should buy the Alienware or Dell Precision. But then, forget about battery life. Everybody wants Apple to provide the best of all possible worlds in a machine that is like what you will be able to buy in 2035---today. Nobody complains like this on the forums for Dell or Alienware. They know what they have there.

I wonder what the geekbench score would be on the newest MBP if you ran NoCrashMBP in the background. My lowly late 2013 2.6 i7 jumped from 19th place in all MBP’s available to 6th place by having 35,000 idle wake ups per cpu second.

Someone is advertising a 2015 15 2.8 Ghz/AMD for $800 locally. Pictures look very good but the price seems too good to be true. I sent them an email - I'll drive down and buy it this afternoon if it's real. I will, of course, check for the firmware lock and ask the source of the laptop (company or Apple Store sale, preferably with some proof of sale).

I've been looking at RoG and EVOC. Two hours of battery life would be sufficient for me. For those cases where I need a lot more, I'd just bring one of my old MacBook Pros. I think that two laptops gives you the best of both worlds. It does help to hit the gym daily too.

If Apple offered 2 hours of battery life on any of their machines, there would be class action lawsuits.

Do you want to go back to that? That was 11 years ago.

It's on my table at home and it still works - except for the display. If the display worked, sure, I'd still be using it. I was using it to hold my media library. You can put a couple of 4 TB SSDs in the thing.

Try something that actually stresses the CPU

Geekbench provides big numbers in a short test where only peak values are attained.

Reason people are complaining about the MBP is that it was once very well balanced and now far too much has been sacrificed for the sake of just a just a few millimetres; reliability, usability and performance all negatively affected, the fact that your 6 year old MBP performs so closely only serves to reinforce just what poor value the current MBP is...

Just maybe for a notebook billed as being a professional product and passing $4K USD for a decent spec some expect a lot more than keyboards broken by design, excessive throttling, general poor QA/QC, currently Apple doesn't deserve our patronage...

we had the usual work team interview a prospective candidate.
They gave low grades for the candidate because they used a MB.

serious:
i walk into a dental office and the receptionist is totally furious and efficient with their computer. You can't do this with a MB. Every key stroke could be a mistake that could cost the firm big time injury.

Hi all,

I've long been frustrated with my MBP and wanted to see if the community had any advice, as I am coming to consider a change in platform which would come at a terrible cost (i.e. loss of money reselling my mac).

If you're not using software can only runs on Mac OS, there aren't many reasons to get a Mac. There are so many Windows laptops to choose from. And some are quite good, eg Lenovo

I've been using Windows again some, and it's not too bad. I like Windows 7 better than 10, but 10 is decent (telemetry is an issue though) Not the pure crap that was around 10-15 years ago. I was going to buy a new MBP, but the new keyboards stopped me. Saving for a Lenovo X1 Extreme now.

I have say that I am in agreement with a lot of what Laptop Magazine has to say on changes to the next model. Though I don’t see Apple ever eating crow and bringing many of them, particularly the return of even a single USB-A into a new model.

I don't think demands 3 through 7 have any chance of ever happening imo.

3. The Return of MagSafe
...
4. At least one USB Type-A port
...
5. Cellular connectivity
...
6. SD memory reader
...
7. A hardware webcam kill switch

Did you really give him low marks because he used a MacBook? Did you ask him if he could use a PC? That seems a bit harsh...

USB-C is just the name for a physical type of connector, which could be used for any protocol, USB 2, 3.0.3.1,3.2, TB3, USB-PD etc

USB 4 will use USB-C plugs and be backwards compatible.

Correct, but my point is many felt that jumping on the USB C standard as Apple did when it was in many ways half baked was a mistake. The ports are confusing, not all the same, some are thunderbolt others not, some things work others don't. Microsoft took their time and said that it was not ready for prime time. Those rushing to USB-C to mimic Apple gave users a very different experience than what went in on in the USB-2 to USB-3 upgrade.

Similar to a thunderbolt.

Stop complaining. Just go buy another machine that you like better. Apple doesn’t care about what you want. Buy an Alien and be done with it.

So get out of here and buy one of those. You know what they call people who go to a forum on the internet and start conversations that are designed to start fight, right? It begins with “T”.

Apple does care. If it hits their stock price low enough then of course they will care.

Lotta ifs.

Considering the title of this thread and the reason for it, it appears to me that YOU are the one trying to start a fight... You seem to be quite upset that you are not able to bully people into thinking as you do. Unfortunate if it causes you discomfort to hear negative views on the issues with the current Macs, but people are entitled to their own views.

Well, you have just literally described yourself :)

Yes Apple could build one of those, but they wouldn’t get an ergonomic awards for classy looks by offering a one inch thick, 10 lb machine. Only nerds would buy one.

Well, at the moment I'm using laptop with better hardware then MBP, and it's lighter then MBP. So please, tell us a bit more about those 10 lb machines. It's really an interesting tale for sure :)

1 inch thick and ten pounds - really?

Take a look at the Lenovo X1E vs. the MBP
2018 MBP 13.75 x 9.48 x .061
Lenovo X1E 14.06 x 9.27 x .074

MBP's weight 4.02 lbs vs 4.06

My X1E, is a little more then a tenth of an inch thicker, 4 hundredths of a pound heavier, yet I have a machine that is faster, cooler, has a 4k touchscreen display and has replaceable components. On top of that, I only paid 2286 for the laptop where as a similarly configured MBP would have run me in the 4,000 dollar range. Don't even get me started with how much better the keyboard is on the thinkpad.

By the way Lenovo has won 14 iF design awards in 2018 so it must be doing something right ergonomically
Lenovo Wins 14 iF Annual Design Awards
We are very pleased to announce that Lenovo has been recognized with more prestigious design awards! The latest are the iF DESIGN AWARDS, the iF has been recognizing great design for 65 years. Each year, iF International Forum Design GmbH organizes one of the world's most celebrated and valued design competitions: the iF DESIGN AWARD. Recognized as a symbol of design excellence around the world, the iF DESIGN AWARD welcomes over 5,000 submissions from 70 countries every year.

I'm not taking anything away from Apple's design, its a beautiful computer, and one of the thinnest if not the most. Yet for that design, owners have been dealing with high heat and less then ideal performance thanks to apple unable to manage the heat effectively in such a thin design. The keyboard makes too many sacrifices in such a tight space, many people abhor the key travel and in the 2016 and 2017 models the key click was unnervingly loud.
