your research Jeans?

Heh heh - I was just throwing that one in to make a point - but good one on calling me on it. ;) Nah, I won't necessarily research jeans, but I'll make sure I'm not buying a crappy brand that will fall apart in a month, nor will I buy jeans for full price when I can get them on sale a few months later. Of course though, they have to look good and feel good, that's above all else, obviously.

But enough about that - thanks for the little detour in this thread though.

this is an online forum, nothing more, nothing less. to wish anyone here bad things just to prove some artificial point or to satisfy your ego is rather tasteless. i hope you didn't mean what you said.

Interesting fact - perhaps you know iJon better than I, then - I'll keep that in mind. ;)

I totally agree, the salesperson screwed up, but I still say a little research doesn't hurt, and a person should definitely not get so livid and outraged by this relatively simply-to-fix blunder on the salesperson's part. Mistakes happen, especially during the Xmas rush, when iPods are flying off the shelves. Also, I don't think Apple Stores hire "special" salespeople who are immune to these types of screw-ups - they are salespeople working for the same wage as other salespeople in other stores, generally speaking, and are only human just like anyone else. Sure, you'd like them to be better, more educated, professional, well-informed, etc. since they're Apple and all, but the facts are that this isn't always the case.

Bottom line: salesperson screwed up - consumer could've done 5 minutes of reasearch prior to purchase - problem is easily fixed - no need to make a big production about it and be "VERY VERY Pissed at Apple"

Well It is the holidays... places get busy and customer service tends to drop...anyone think they might be out of those cables at that store? Maybe thats why he didn't bother to mention it. I know i've done that a few times in my past. It's not right but then again getting yelled at by a customer for something that is beyond your control isn't either

Ahh plz, i dont side with apple whether they are right or wrong always, maybe you should go and look through some more of my 4000 posts. i dont need to get screwed by apple, there is enough people on this board who start threads like this where i learn how not to get screwed by apple. and tonight i learned a very vaulable lesson in the world of apple, reading the box goes a long way. but you can think of me as a stuck up prick, i really dont care, thats whats great about an online forum, not that i would care in real life either.

Paxil helped me a lot.
Try it, because if you get THAT pissed off because of a lousy $5.00 cable, you're headed to an early grave.
It helps with grammar too, since a blood-red faces take much needed oxygen from the brain.

The Gap is where I buy my jeans as well - always on sale though, I never pay the outrageous full price. ;) Wait, how did we get back on this topic again? ;)

I can understand your frustration. Got a PB 12" as an early XMAS gift (with my guidance). It was after reading about printer compatibility after the fact that I found that I should have taken advantage of the Epson C84/CX6400 rebates. It took another trip to the Apple store to get a corrected receipt.

It ticked me off since I work retail, and try to arm the customer with all the info I know of (whether it seems useful at the time or not, at least I can sleep easy).

I buy my jeans there too, don't necessarily shop for sales because I seem to miss them due to my covert shopping techniques, I tend to go at weird times so i avoid the small talk with people form high school that I never like to start with.

It sucks to be dissapointed but its just one day and its an easy fix .... no one should be over stressed.

I'll agree that iJon sides with apple on occasion simply because hes a very logical person, he doesn't get emotion/passionate over apple problems ... just ex gfs on occasion... there are bigger problems in life. He also works in a store that sells apple products so he is more knowlegable about what is exactly in the box than the average consumer and he might take it for granted and be more suprised this simple mistake was made. For instance if your a waiter at a resturant that serves Pepsi and someone orders a coke you quickly don't think about it and bring the nearst cola ... Pepsi.... in a year of being a server i've only had one kid complain that it wasn't coke ... he also said I had gotten him coke before (which I assure you was quite impossible).

I'm to lazy to shop around ... i like i buy, i overpay 90% of the time

but i always shop at the gap because i hate to search for cloths in racks ... and the gap has things nice and laid out ...

as far as the topic ... well we know what he needs a mac or a usb cable

research ... i research all my electronics ... it's my favorite part

thanks keith, thanks for bring my ex's into it, no more reading my blog anymore ;)

just for the record, here is the box. now i got this right when the ipods came in the door and those usb stickers were on there, knowing apple they probably updated the boxes when they became available, but how knows.

Re: VERY VERY Pissed at Apple

Originally, I thought Mr. Breakfast was overreacting in a big way. Well, I still feel so partly. However, after re-reading the original post and seeing this part...

Did the salseman at the apple store say anything about buying a cable when I told him I was buying it for use on a windows machine with USB?? Hell no!!

I also tend to agree with him. I can just see it now-

DeadlyBreakfast: I wanna get one of these iPod things for my nephew.

Apple Sales Rep: Great idea. He'll love it.

DB: I think I'll go with the 10 GB.

ASR: Good choice. Most people have less than 10 gigs of music on their machine anyway.

DB: Now he has a Windows machine with USB ports. Is everything I need right here?

ASR: (over shoulder) I'll be right with you, ma'am...Ah, yeah. That's it. The 10 GB iPod. Cash or charge?

When I worked in retail, we were trained to ask people if they wanted wiper fluid when they bought wipers, an oil filter when they bought oil, paint brushes when they bought paint. I'm sure Apple trains its own salespeople to go for the "add-on sale" as well. The fact that this guy didn't- especially after being told it was to be used on a Windows machine- is inexcusable. (BTW: Do Apple Store employees make minimum wage?)

However, the other comment...
I am so freaking pissed right now becuase my nephew cant use the gift I got him until he gets the cable. All the guy had to do was tell me.. I had it wrapped next to the apple store no I neve got a chance to read the fraking box, if it even said anything about it.. I Jobs was here right now I'd punch him in the dam head!!

...is clearly an overreaction. Why are you directing your anger towards Jobs? He wasn't the sales rep, was he?

Merry Christmas,

Squire

I usually disregard any computer salesman in what they say. In my experience, they seem to never know anything - except to point out where things are. IMO, all computer retail-ers need a prompt course in computer related stuffs. I'd like it to be standard that all employees require a certification of some sort to even sell the equipment. I think it was just sheer incompetence on part of the employee. Other than that, hope your nephew enjoys the iPodium of Fun.

hmmm, now to make an observation, doesn't dell take advatange of this insecurity/ lack of consumer knowledge by the average consumer .... they make those ads about going to computer boot camp and customers screaming out what they need , where as dell says you don't have to research we'll hold your hand .... people in america are generally lazy they want they're hand held thru something ... when you look at it that way its amazing that we get to complain about us being lazy ...

I do remember your opinions in my threads about zip, alienware, apple marketing, g5s...
But good. I'm glad our feelings are mutual. Lets leave it at that.

Ah-ha. Maybe. But saying: "It's all your fault" to someone who paid big bucks in a official store and got screwed is also tastless.
Not to mention, I think, even though the guy should have done some research, it is mostly sale rep's. job. If not, then what is his job? ring the register?

People can be completely computer uneducated. And picking a gift after they went to the mall realiazing that their little nephew into music. Some people haven't even heard of USB.
If someone asked me to buy a tractor for some farm in arkansas that has to have some Gh68 hooking part for the plow and not Gh667 that is not included. Do you think I wouldnt mess up there knowing nothing about tractors? All i need to know: I need a tractor that hooks to the plow.

here is something i want to know from this guy, are you certain the pc you are using even has usb 2.0?

I understand we're not all perfect and misspelt words do not the end of the world make but I almost feel sorry for this keyboard because it seems this guy pounded the hell out of them in his original post to achieve such a spelling melee. I'm guessing this is the kind of guy that gets his panties in a bunch when he discovers that certain electronic equipment do not work right out of the box. Batteries not included.

Oh and I'd highly recommend looking in the mirror before calling someone an "idiot".

Deadly is perfectly right. iPods should be shipped with USB cables. After all, they're advertised as being a device that you connect to your computer.

Apple is making no friends by selling the iPod without the connector that obviously every customer is going to want.

A few years ago in Europe it was the norm to sell electrical goods with no plug. Eventually this was made illegal; a good thing for all the companies whose customers really hated them when they brought the box home and opened it and found they had to go out and buy a three-pin plug and wire it in themselves.

Apple needs all the friends it can get. Arrogance and stupidity won't really help.

And a message to all those who have called this angry poster rude names: is that how you really want to behave? I thought this was a site where people helped each other.
