hahaha! Yeah, sure did...and at 10 grand a pop, I would EXPECT home concierge service and set up of that advanced work of art.:p

I think that all printers should come with the necessary cables to hook up to a computer. Its like if apple were to ship Powermacs without the power cable and you had to go buy one. It just diesn't make any sense. (besides the fact it saves Epson a bunch of money)

Gee i remember getting pissed about this ~ 15 years ago. Came home with my first printer, opened it up and found the DB25-Centronix cable didn't come with it. I had to spend another $30 for the cable, but I think I was more pissed at having to make a second trip to the store that day.

I agree - devices should always come with the necessary cable.

I'm all for shipping the necessary cables with hardware items, but the fact is that this isn't the way it works, like it or not. Printers and similar devices really have no excuse, because you absolutely need that cable, and there is only one kind of cable you can use, however they have their reasons. One example I can think of off the top of my head is the new printer I just bought. Since I'm selling my old printer, I am simply using the USB cable from the old printer for my new printer, and a new USB cable is not necessary. In this case, it would be a waste for the printer company to include the cable with the printer, as I would never use it.

I also understand this philosophy more in the case of the iPod. The USB cable is NOT required for an iPod, and many users will use the included firewire cable. So in the iPod's case, the USB cable isn't necessary, and may not even be used by all users, so in a way, it's a waste of money for Apple to include these cables with the iPod when they may never be used! And who knows, for the less-intelligent users out there they might cause more confusion than anything!

Oh yeah, and what happened to the original poster who was so pissed off? I haven't read any posts from him in this thread for a while now. Perhaps he came to his senses, realized he was acting like a childish, immature, overreacting fool, and decided to go out and buy his nephew a simple cable rather than complaining about it in these forums.

Yeah, I figured that after a page or two of replies and no comment from the original poster that he cooled off or didn't care anymore...or maybe it was a test. Ha!

Speaking of "cables", that brings to mind the telephone cable that Macs always ship with. At the education level, we toss those things away by the truckload...I guess they're pretty cheap anyway, but what I wouldn't give for Apple to toss in an Ethernet wire instead!:p

they even used to give a way 4-6 pin firewire cables. the reason they give away the phone cables is so they can keep their promise of "on the internet in only a few minutes."

Funny thread. Good read for a slow news week.

BTW, the iPod does come with a cable; two in fact. A lot of PCs now a days come with firewire. So it's not so unreasonable to only include firewire since that's what the majority of the purchasers have.
