Having a similar/almost identical case and removing the headphone jack just feels like soldering the RAM in the Mac Mini and keeping the same shell. It's not like the aesthetics of a beautiful new design dictated this choice......
Agreed. The only thing I can come up with is perhaps they want to take the sting out of that 'headphone jack removal' transition before next year's iPhone8, where it may be crucial to remove it. Kind of a pre-emptive strike, so to speak, so by next year we'll be used to it and have our accessories lined up for smooth continuity?

I believe they have really high hopes and expectations for that much anticipated iPhone8.

Man, I love MacRumors.

I never even noticed the detail of the iPhone 4's camera lining up with the side of the phone. Amazing attention to detail, and a sublime example of the Apple that used to exist under Steve.

Thanks for pointing it out. Good design is easy. Great design is hard.

I just randomly discovered another detail. Look at how even the LED-flash sits on the midline of the sleep/wake button. Apple products are full of these kind of minutiae (which some people might consider irrelevant). At least they were.

On the other hand, to be fair, even the sloppiest Apple product today is usually still a thousand times better looking than what other manufacturers are pouring out.

I think that's why so many people, myself included are disappointed with Apple of late - we always bought Apple for that "perfection" which is no longer evident, they're chasing gimmicks ("thinness" in particular) at the expense of design, it used to be the other way around and that's the reason so many chose Apple in the past.

On the other hand, to be fair, even the sloppiest Apple product today is usually still a thousand times better looking than what other manufacturers are pouring out.

That's blatantly untrue, look with an unbiased eye at most of the equivalent competition - Samsung in particular but also the top Chinese companies and they're actually pulling ahead in terms of design and have been for a while. Apple are dropping the ball.

You have eagle eyes.

I don't really have an issue with iPhone 7's mediocre design. I see people use custom exterior parts for iPhones all the time from changing the home button or the entire shell altogether. The most important parts of any phone is the components inside of it especially the display, digitizer, SoC, and battery.

Worry about taking care of its inside first like deciding to eat healthier foods to live longer. Inside matters more. Once the motherboard is fried or the battery goes kaput, game over. The exterior is generally replaceable if you find a shop that repairs iPhones and sells custom parts.

Most of us likely have never designed anything in any field for any purpose that didn't involve finger paints, so why so adamant about the design of these (possibly fake) phone bodies, especially since the vast majority of the phones will be covered up by cases? The antenna bands of a slightly different shade or tiny camera bulges won't destroy your design sensibility. Honest.
Fiat Multipla. Great car for a family. What hampered sales was the look of it which didn’t at all affect functionality.
It doesn’t have to look like crap just because it serves a higher purpose. Why can’t people get this? We are human and like things to look nice.

But sometimes not. The buttons and crown don’t line up on the Apple Watch.

Except that’s not always true is it. Your skin for example is the outside but it protects you from a whole manner of things. The outside of the phone is what protected it from a more serious bendgate saga.

How do these leaks get out? Can apple trace them? I would love one day to watch an iPhone keynote without having a clue what it's going to look like :)

Sarcasm font? You're posting on a website called Macrumors, if you wanted to be surprised wouldn't it make sense to not be doing that?

I'm so happy they released the SE. It's a beautiful phone with current generation internals. I'll be keeping it for a while it seems.

i think the new antenna bands look better like this, i mean the phone definitely looks cleaner on the back. This should have been the design of the ip6 in the first place.

as for the colors, i know apple will give us another option (it could be either space black or deep blue). and it makes sense because they are keeping the same design so a new color will make the phone look different. i am rooting for space black, thatd be awesome!!!!! >D
