Here's my guess regarding iphone 7 and 8. Apple is well aware that people won't be interested in buying another S model for a second year in a row. Since the tech is not ready (OLED screen, integrated touch_ID) and they need to come up with something they will use pricing and apple watch to their advantage in order to keep people interested. Iphone 6s will receive a 200$ price drop instead of 100$, iphone 6 will be discontinued with the iphone 5s. Iphone 6 SE will receive a price drop as well. Iphone 7 will retail for 100$ less than 6s when it came out since R&D cost were quite low for this phone compared to Iphone 5/Iphone 6. They will also introduce a new version of Apple Watch which will double battery life thanks to 14nm and integrated GPS with less dependency on iPhone. Cheaper iphone + apple watch will keep the money flowing for Apple without crashing the stock. Secondly, I think Iphone 8 will be released in June 2017 since people will be more inclined to update sooner. Iphone 8 will feature OLED screen, A11 quad-core, integrated touch-id and massive design change.

$200 price drop on the new iPhone? Double battery life on the new Apple Watch (including dedicated GPS)?

Whatever your're smoking, please smoke less of it. ;)

Most of us likely have never designed anything in any field for any purpose that didn't involve finger paints, so why so adamant about the design of these (possibly fake) phone bodies, especially since the vast majority of the phones will be covered up by cases? The antenna bands of a slightly different shade or tiny camera bulges won't destroy your design sensibility. Honest.

Sorry, but that camera is NASTY.

SERIOUSLY. WHY?!!

Just make the phone 1.5mm thicker and make it FLUSH.

- People who use cases won't care because they use cases and clearly don't mind extra thickness.

- People who don't use cases (true gentleman like myself) will be much happier.

Ok done.

Another video has emerged online showing probable mockups of iPhone 7 units, but this time viewers are given a better idea of what the new handset might look like in three colors that Apple may offer this September.

The video was posted to YouTube channel ConceptsiPhone yesterday and shows the iPhone 7 in Rose Gold, Gold, and what the titling calls "Space Black".

Screen-Shot-2016-07-21-at-11.58.03-800x533.jpg

The mockups depict the now familiar design expectations such as protruding camera, repositioned antenna bands, and no headphone jack, but it's the "Space Black" reference that stands out as a curiosity this time around.

Rumors in June pointed to the possibility that Apple was readying a darker variant of its traditional Space Grey color, described by one source as "close to black, though not quite black". This so-called "new, darker shade" was thought to more closely resemble the look of the "space black" stainless steel Apple Watch, which is darker than the "space gray" aluminum Apple Watch Sport.

However, earlier this month, alleged photographs of Apple's proposed iPhone 7 colorways stuck to showing the company's typical four variants of Rose Gold, Space Gray, Gold, and Silver, similar to the iPhone 6s and 6s Plus.

The "Space Black" variant depicted in the latest video does look darker than a typical iPhone 6s Space Grey unit, but the poor lighting makes identification a guessing game, and it could be just as likely that the unusual naming convention is simply a botched amalgam of previous rumors.

On the other hand, Apple has used different shades of "space gray" and "black and slate" across its device lineups over the years. The iPhone 6s and iPad Pro, for example, each have a lighter shade of "space gray" compared to the iPhone 5s and original iPad Air respectively.

The iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus are expected to be officially unveiled by Apple in the fall. In addition to the aforementioned features, the smartphones are expected to have faster Apple A10 processors, 32GB of base storage, improved waterproofing, and faster LTE and Wi-Fi.

Well it is an iPhone. Definitely nothing to rave about. I am not raving also at iOS 10.0, so what is left to push us to upgrade ? A super battery life which I am not sure will be the case when I see the specs for the battery that are floating around and an astounding camera. Otherwise, it will be iOS vs android. The Samsung Galaxy S7 or Oneplus 3 are all better design than the iPhone 6 and for now I am more excited using my Oneplus 3 after being an iPhone user since day one.

The Hype Train is making the Chinese knock-off factories work on double time. Seems like every couple days we get to read the headlines about how THIS is the latest in iPhone 7 casing.

This is what the 6 or 6S should have looked like. The camera bump is now a smooth bump, rather than a jagged bump - that mistake should not have existed in the first place. Antennas are still ugly though lol.

What about when the iPhone 8 comes out? Will it go back up to their normal prices or stay $100 less than historical launch prices?

due to massive technology advantage against competition, massive design change AND storage upgrade, price will most likely be increased.

100$ price drop, not 200$. Apple S2 will be 14nm instead of 28nm, watch will be more independent which will reduce Bluetooth usage and some software optimisation.

Is this a record for the most iPhone Rumors in a three month span? And we are not even in August yet.

In any case, day one purchase in Space black or Slate (If legitimate).

since wwdc this yrs look boring
so no expect things magic in sept

tim cook alway said

iphone 5s = will blow your mind
iphone 6s = best product ever
iphone 7 = people cannot live without it

* give me a fart *

Cook never said 'iPhone 7, people cannot live without it.' Cook said there would be a feature that people could not live without in the future iPhone in an interview Jim Cramer. (Not a direct quote, but he was not referring to iPhone 7 by itself.)

Thin sells phones to normal consumers. Apple caters to normal consumers.

and ill say it again -- what absurd, utter nonsense. under Cook apple is bigger than ever, selling more units than ever, earning more profit than ever, and has higher consumer satisfaction ratings than ever. by every metric he is a success.

youre just whining because the new case of the next iphone doesnt look different. thats absurd. its childish. the iterative design approach apple has always employed isnt designed to make you feel good about yourself by giving you some visual status symbol.

phone nerds can whine about this all they like, but you represent an insignificant number of customers. the rest of apple's real market will love it and buy it. again.

Cook was just taking over momentum that was built under Jobs rule. Cook has done nothing to contribute to Apple growing, and in fact they are not growing anymore now that the momentum that Jobs built has ended. I don't care about an iPhone getting a new case, however Cook should because its clear sales will suffer, sale are already suffering, and Apple will suffer as a result since half of their profits come from that product...

changes like removing the headphone jack clearly help build Apple's vision of the future

Here, let me fix that for you:

Changes like removing the headphone jack clearly help build Apple's profits on Beats Lightning headphones and lightning to headphone jack adapters.

Those antenna lines...

I hated the antenna lines on the 6 and 6s; I hate these ones even more. They look like bandaid plasters; incredibly tacky-looking.

What has happened to Apple's design? Has Ive retired or just lost his touch?

The guiding hand of Steve Jobs is sorely missed.

Ive was good at collaborating with Jobs. The ID labs are where Jobs spent the bulk of his time, and he had a close working relationship with Ive. Now we see what Ive is capable of doing on his own. IMO he should go back to designing toilets.

Is it impossible to make body-colored bands? The contrast on the examples here is very unattractive.

The problem is the different materials - aluminium is quite reflective while plastic/rubber absorbs the light from different angles, they'll probably look fine "in the flesh"...

Here's an example of a Bluetooth speaker I'm working on from two angles, the button is grey rubber and looks perfectly decent by eye yet photos make the colour look very off depending on angle -

That said, I still think the iPhone 7 looks pretty disappointing overall...

I'd gladly pay $40 or $50 more for diamond-like carbon coating on a Space Black iPhone "7 Plus".
Similar or identical to the coating on the Space Black Watch.
I love the DLC Space Black Milanese Loop on my Space Gray Watch Sport.
Completely abrasion-resistant. (No case needed for a DLC-coated iPhone to resist daily scrapes.)

So whats up with that port? It doesn't look like the typical lighting.

i think you are visually right. but on finished product lightning ports there is a kind of metal insert that also is put in place. so this is probably standard lightning port as it looks as just a shell.

When the first pictures of the iPhone 5 came out, I thought it was a step-back compared to the iPhone 4 design-wise, when looking at the fine details. The iPhone 4's camera hole was aligned with perfect symmetry in mind. Look at how the curve of the camera hole is equidistant from that of the phone's edge. One can tell Steve was very much around at that time. This kind of subtlety is what made Apple what it is (or isn't?) today.

At that time, I thought the iPhone 5's camera hole was somewhat sloppy in comparison.

Man, how much I did not see the slope waiting ahead...

Man, I love MacRumors.

I never even noticed the detail of the iPhone 4's camera lining up with the side of the phone. Amazing attention to detail, and a sublime example of the Apple that used to exist under Steve.

Thanks for pointing it out. Good design is easy. Great design is hard.

should have been the original antenna design of the 6/6+
Easy thing to say for an arm chair critic.
Reality is that it probably took a ton of engineering over 2 years to redesign the antenna system, so that the wifi radios no longer had to be separated by the plastic divider.

That's why they exist in the first place...its not possible for the back to be one solid metal piece, and the radios to work properly.

And sometimes obsessive design can degrade functionality.

Its not like they couldn't align the camera that way if they wanted to. Its not like no one at Apple has ever noticed. It is this way, because it has to be this way, for 100 different tiny reasons that you are not privy to.

What you'll never know about the iPhone 4, is that the camera could have probably been even better, had visual aesthetic not take priority.
