It’s gon be lighter due to titanium, I would say that would be a better way for weight

This titanium greatly reducing weight thinking needs to go away. It's going to reduce the weight, sure, but with a larger rumored battery and a new camera module, the weight reduction is going to be negligible.

I'm willing to bet we see a 10 grams or less difference in weight on the pro models with the move to titanium.

Why I'm thinking this with some really basic math. Titanium is lighter than stainless steel by about 45% but heavier than aluminum by about 65%. 14 Plus and 14 Pro Max come in at 7.16oz and 8.47oz, respectively, or a difference of 1.31oz between the models.

Let's assume the internals are identical between the two models of the 14s (which they are not) and do a weight calculation off of the difference above, with the assumption that this weight difference is solely due to frame materials. We're looking at somewhere between 7.9 - 8oz based on this math. Let's factor in another .35oz / 10 grams on the conservative side for a larger battery and new camera module and we're now looking at around 8.3oz for the Pro Max model, or a difference of 5 grams from today's model.

Apple will of course spin this as being lighter and stronger, which is true, but it's not going to make any discernible difference when in use.

Battery Life 14 Pro Max.

I have upgraded every year, on launch day, for the last 4 years and always had 100% battery health when I sold the previous year's phone. In the last few weeks, the 14 Pro Max Battery Health has dropped from 100% to 98%. I disabled Always on Home Screen from the beginning (didn't need it), not a heavy user and I exclusively use Apple wireless charger, charging settings optimised, and sometimes (not often) the charge level drops below 20% by end of day (more so recently). My feeling is the recent updates have messed with the battery life and likely reporting of battery health - in the last 2-3 months genuinely feel that the battery charge drops more rapidly during the day than it did before and quite randomly.

Anyone else relate to this?
Yes. My 14 ProMax was at 100 health until I uploaded the 16.5x series. Shortly after (without any thought ) I notice it is 99 percent then after 16.6 it dropped to 98 percent. Seems strange? Almost too strange for a coincidence me thinks but what do I know. But for first time this came to mind I wonder what the updates did to the battery analysis and such refined it so what rounded as 100 percent now is 99 and then 98? Not that for me it is serious and I am actually keeping it and not upgrading to 15 Pro line on AUP for first time in years. But curious

I have had every iPhone Pro Max since they started. My eyes are not those of a kid so the large screen allows for larger characters. I am basically unaware of the Dynamic Island just like the notch on my 14MacBook Pro. My screen is not always on as that is a waste of energy for me. I have all the "save the battery" settings on. I have had one red battery due to operator error getting the iPhone on the Apple travel dual charger properly. I put it on that charger around 7 or 8 at night and pick it up at 5 in the morning. The battery is down to 96 this morning. There is a leather case on it since new. Battery usage is about 25% on a daily basis and seldom has 12 hours of activity on a given day.

My email program uses the most activity.

I like the large size and weight as it is easier for me to hang onto and I can sense it's presence on my hip leather case.

We see better photos with the 14 than we do with the 13 (that was handed down to my wife) when we take pictures at the same time of the same object.

Will probably jump on the 15 band wagon launch day.

My Ultra watch will remain unless there is a significant medical improvement.

My three M1 computer devices will wait on the M3 or M4 as they do all I need now. Things happen in less than a blink of the eye so happening in half a blink of the eye is non-discernible to me. :)

My big computer upgrade this year is a Synology NAS to replace three old Drobo units that are no longer supported due to the company's demise and one dead power supply on one of them.

I thought Dynamic Island was cool. 🏝️

OMG!!!!!

I thought that was the screen pealing away from the dynamic island area and I freaked

I had a dull spot on my iphone4 (the best designed phone ever) and it kinda looked similar to that pic above

100% agree with the battery health. My 14PM doesn't last a full day anymore. I almost exclusively wireless charge except with im in the car and have my phone plugged in for carplay. Battery health is 89%. I do also wish Dynamic Island was utilized more.
That isn't normal after 1 year - something definitely wrong with your battery. My 14 Pro is at 98% health after 1 year.. but I also rarely charge it to 100%. I work from home so whenever it gets to 20% i charge it up to around 80%. A mixture of wired and wireless charging

Interesting to hear that it’s not just me and my spouse on our 13 minis who are experiencing rapid batter drain over the last few months. We don’t have Bluetooth turned on, and I usually keep my phone in low power mode every day, but our batteries drain so fast. I was not expecting to hear that it was also the case for a 14 pro max with a much larger battery. The statements made in the video make it sound like a fix could be coming in the form of bigger battery, but I really think that this has to be a software issue. It was not nearly as much of an issue on the last version of iOS.

Also, it was mentioned that the 15 pro might not be worth getting for those who have a 14 pro. I wish Apple would sell “last year’s” pro models at a $100 discount instead of so continuing them altogether. I would be happy getting a 14 pro for $900 plus tax instead of a 15 pro for $1100 plus tax.

The notch was awful. The island is even worse. Apple need commending on having a brand powerful enough that anybody actually convinces themselves they likes it or it is better than a tiny Android-esque cutout.

It’s interesting to hear people now bashing dynamic island. I haven’t tried it and thus can’t make an informed opinion, but this time last year it was the hottest new feature in iOS.
It was a talked about feature, certainly, but there was definitely more negativity on here than positivity. Justifiably... 😬

They should move the Notch (and the dynamic island) to the back! Problem solved.

Dynamic Island will be retired in a couple of years at the next significant design change, with under screen cameras blah blah. Feels like developers know this so don't bother.
While the physical cutout will get smaller and eventually may go away, that doesn't mean that the DI notifications will go away. That would just become a purely software element and could be more flexible as a result. It probably depends on how popular it becomes once more people have phones with DI. So far it has only been people with the 14Pro which is not a large enough group to get developers excited.

With the launch of the iPhone 15 lineup fast approaching, MacRumors video editor Dan Barbera thought he'd take a look back at his last year (almost) using the iPhone 14 Pro Max before it's time to move on to the iPhone 15 Pro Max.

The iPhone 14 Pro Max introduced the Dynamic Island for the first time, and it's been a feature that Apple doesn't seem to have taken full advantage of yet. It also brought the higher-end 48-megapixel camera sensor and the Always-On display.

Dan goes into depth on how the iPhone 14 Pro Max (used caseless!) has held up over the course of the last 11 months, what battery life is like, and how the latest feature set has worked out for him. The video provides an thoughtful retrospective on a year with Apple's flagship iPhone as we head into iPhone launch season.

We're expecting the iPhone 15 models to come out in September as usual. The standard models won't get much in the way of an upgrade aside from a transition to the Dynamic Island and a USB-C port, but we can expect slimmer bezels, faster chips, and a periscope telephoto lens for the iPhone 15 Pro Max that will replace the 14 Pro Max. More details on the iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Pro models can be found in our roundups.

No mention of the photo processing issues and the fact that the 14 Pro's photo's are just not consistent enough compared to previous Pro's, flares in night time video and photo's are still a problem.
The battery is a strange one, 50% Praise it, 50% complain about it 😳
For me, if you have 20% left at the end of the day, with always on display, that is a good battery!
For those that allegedly have to charge up by 1 or 2 pm....I would suggest you look at your usage, playing games will do that and also surfing the net all the time, for those type of users, there isn't a phone on earth, that will last all day 🤣

I agree that the poor battery life is surprisingly poor, compared to my iPhone 11 Pro Max. the 14 PM is significantly heavier, and I assume that is due to a larger battery, so I am confused. And I don't own an induction charger.
FWIW I get much better battery life if I close all the apps. In particular, I find the Phone camera app seems to draw a lot of power, even when it isn't in use (phone is warm). [I need to proof read before posting. If I leave the camera app open, the iP14PM overheats]
This is just one person's anecdotal experience. Your mileage may vary.

I think some people just let their batteries drain too far. I’ve been using wireless charges every night for a few years now on my phones without issue. My 14 pro max is still at 100% health and I use a MagSafe every night. I also get great battery life, but I make sure to keep it above 40%.

My 13 PM had 98% health when I gave it to my wife and now it’s at 87% less than a year later. She only uses wired charging but constantly drains the battery down into the red.

I also this this plus people leaving it on a charger all night. I usually charge mine to 80-85%. I am also still using a 5w brick that came with my iPhone 8plus. I think that the one. Lol. Sure it takes a little bit to charge but I’m in no rush and I make sure I’m topped up before bed. Battery still 100% ( which I think it’s just a gimmick to keep people happy ) on a 14PM

Correct I am at 60 percent to 70 percent at days end but your advice for those that need recharging it spot on. I use my phone about a third of the time and notice those folks are usually triple my use. It also seems that many reporting on battery health drops (still in 90’s in most cases) are also this busy group. I am at 98 percent and quite happy. Always on display ect.

That is unreasonably bad. To the point I would think that battery is defective and you should see if Apple would replace it for free. My 12 Pro is at 89% with the original battery still.

That 5w brick life is where it’s at!
Agreed! That's what I have on my nightstand at home and is where my phone gets charged every night. It does get charged here and there in my car or if I have a really heavy use day and need to top it off a bit, but that slow charge is better for the battery and it can take all night for all I care since I'm sleeping. My 12Pro is at 89% health after nearly 3 years.
