What happened to hanging up the keyboard?

You know you're right.

Exciting night. So I couldn't resist a post or two. As we get close everyone's predicting pretty much the same.

But there is still time for ThinkSecret to get in one more reversal.

I hope Apple remembers where it's roots are... :( :(

They will. Even if they don't update PowerMac/PowerBooks today they will soon. Unfortunately with IBM's yields sucking so profoundly there isn't much manouvering room for Apple. Until next June, it could be one of the lamest years for Macs ever. But what can Apple do? They can't rush the intel processors, they can't make IBM cough up chips they don't have.

In short, you'll see new PowerMac/PowerBooks soon enough.

The PowerMacs may rock out with dual dual-core processors (though I haven't read enough on yields of dual cores to comment for sure).

The PowerBook is pooched (unless Apple comes out with the UberCooler™ for a G5) and doomed to be pooched until the intel switch. Having said that, they are still very capable computers, still have the world's most advanced operating system (yes I do believe Apple's hype on this matter), and are still the sexiest tacky sticker free little beasts you can buy.

It's at 4am for me. I also have an interview for a Vocational IT course I'm doing next year at 9:00am.

Means I have to get up about 6:30. I'll try and sleep. I'm watching a Miyazaki movie on SBS at the mo'

Sometimes I wish I wasn't a strapping 17 year old. (ha! yeah right)

An iPod Video... makes sense to add to the already killer and highly profitable lines of the iPod range, more market share I say for Apple.
It would also make sense because Steve Jobs has been involved with Pixar for some time now. He's intergrated Next into the Apple loop so it would be the next logical solution for Pixar to join Apple within a new line up of products.

Where youz at to be 4am in the morning?

It will be 2am here in Tokyo, i think I can do it...

Sorry if the answer is in one of the 236 treads on the announcement, but is thee a QT stream for the annuncement or will I have to read along in one of the other rumor ages?

guy . . . somevideo is coming!

The music video section has not been updated in a long time in the iTMS. The store itself was not updated yesterday morning like clockwork . . . something is up . . . looks to me like the video ipod is coming, like it or not, which it probably the attitude of mr. jobs.

Everyone is wrong....it's gonna be a PDA. Anyone been thinking about Inkwell lately...I have.

Yep the lack of updates to iTMS, especially the video content, has been noted previously.... but welcome to the site and the 2hr 56min wait!

Video Ipod

My guess is that there will be a video iPod. Note the invite for the event which shows a photo of a curtain about to open, i.e. in the style of an old time cinema.
Ive heard that the video iPod will be 'several millimeters thicker' than the standard forth gen device. Personally I think this will put a lot of people off, we consumers have been told that size matters... the smaller the better, look at the Mini and the Nano.

With regard to Powerbook updates, for me they mean nothing. I have a powerbook (and an iMac for that matter) im gonna wait until the ehhh! Intel notebooks come out next year.

If this is what happens, I will finally make a total switch. This is the ONE thing that has been keeping me from moving to apple totally, inability to use my pda's!

Naw, it's gonna be a GPS!

I'm hoping a video iPod isn't just an iPod that outputs video (because no one can watch a movie on a regular iPod screen).

Hopefully they will redesign and make it a totally different looking product (kind of like the renders that are out there).

pds?

It's gonna be what it's gonna be, nothing more, nothing less.

I think MR should shut down for a couple of hours so we can all take a breath and come to terms with the world - it will keep spinning no matter how many of us are satisfied or however many of us are dissatisfied.

Reading many of the posts in all 267 threads on the subject, his would have to be the most 'out-there' in terms of level of speculation and debate - even people who agree with what it basically will be are all diasagreeing on size/speed/features...nothing is clear, which will make it all the more interesting in 3 hours.

Time to power down and take a big long breather 3...2...1...awwwwwwww

OK Ill go with Video

Video. No Video. Video.....

Pick a rumor and STICK WITH IT! Sheeesh! :D

Im sticking with the iPod Video. Probably go the same way as the iPod photo (not very popular... unless im mistaken) I also am guessing that the only videos you will be able to view are those from the iTunes store. The iPod Video is probably aimed at those wishing to watch music videos of 3-4 minutes and not movies, TV programmes etc.

It's pretty obvious that the current powerbrokers of the broadcast industry recognize that things are changing fast and that they are NOT the catalyst. Many of the major networks and cable companies are adding podcasts to their websites as we speak. If video content becomes available on demand via a wi-fi connections just about anywhere... just imagine. Everything changes.

You can't ignore the success of Sony's PSP and even portable DVD players.

I have a pet project to produce a small tv show. I've been seriously considering bypassing conventional broadcasting and going directly to downloadable clips formatted for, among other things, the PSP.

If apple can provide a vehicle for downloading video like an iVideo store, it becomes all the more feasable.

However, unless you charge for content you have to change the advertising model. We now live in a TiVo (sp?)/VHS (still) world where people tape or copy the shows of their choice and skip or delete the comercials. So the traditional advertising model doesn't work. You either charge for download or you embed the advertising throught the show. This is already happing in movies and I've heard some shows are starting to do this and not having commercial breaks. A 30 minute show is a full 30 minutes with product placements embedded in the show.

Yes, everything is changing and video on demand is just one contributing factor.

I think the success of Sony's PSP forces Apple's hand here a little.
