I have a hunch the next Mac mini will be thinner - somewhere between a Mac mini & TV thicknesses - if not just as thin as the TV. And built with the same aluminum unibody technique as the newest MacBooks, MacBook Airs & MacBook Pros. It will not feature a white plastic top.
Again, just a hunch.

That was my thinking too, it would a lot more cost effective to use a method they have developed machinery for, a unibody mini would be it i think. Maybe even for the new iMac??

If this is real I've completely lost faith in Apple....I mean seriously, zero change in the look of a device since its start and minimal other changes...OOOOOOH LOOK they added a display port and a USB port....

His story sounds fine to me.

I meet people in the subway all of the time with cutting edge unreleased hardware in their pockets.

It just a sign of the times... ;-)

Ok, I don't get THIS attitude from a lot of people. What do you want? A SEX button? I'm not certain there are plenty of better designs you can make for a low end mini-computer... should it be shaped like a flower? Come with a propellor on top for kicks? Maybe look like an old radio?

Whatever the mini becomes, it's going to be a minimalist box with a few outputs on the back. It won't dance, it won't sing, but it'll attach to a monitor and let you run Apple OS and other programs.

Not changing the external case of a device is what it takes for you to lose "faith" in a Apple?

What a day in your life must be like...

Fake.

I'm comparing the ports on the video to the ports on the picture. The small (is it a port? What is that thing?) "black dot" between the vent and the first digital audio port is longer on the picture than it is on the video. Which means 1) it's two different prototypes and 2) gives me the idea that it's a fake.

Plus I watched it a few times and it looks like the Apple logo atop the device is not quite "rotating" exactly with the frame (probably because the top is white and there aren't any tracking points).

SNIP

Now that you mention it, I rather would like a sex button.

Still fake.

The Firewire 800 does it in. Why on earth would the Mini have it and not the MacBook?

And if they're waiting this long on a refresh, we're gonna see something more than just a couple different ports. (And the mini DVI + mini DisplayPort is absurd.)

There's more to a computer than the outside. The guts ( motherboard, formally known as the logic board ) could be completely different and you wouldn't know it by the video/pic.

fake

why hasn't anyone commented that this isn't the same machine that was in the 'leaked' photo? it's pretty blatant. compare the ports:

Surely people aren't THAT unobservant.

Well that kinda proves it's fake. DO'H

Look at the top edge. It's completely different.
One's polished aluminum and the other is brushed aluminum. And there's a beveled edge at the top of the pic that isn't in the video.

Power button...

is not at all consistent with anything apple puts out. It protrudes, is rounded and looks like a piece plastic glued there.

I think what people were looking for was a thinner machine .. similar to :apple:Tv or Airport Extreme. I have mixed feelings over it if this is the design still. It has been the same design for several years now, dating back to the PPC G4... One would have a reason to believe that they would have changed something to the look, no matter how minor. A good example would be the iBook G3. It originally came in tangerine and blueberry, but later revisions came in key lime, blueberry, graphite, indigo ... and later the icebook type that looked somewhat identical the the later iBook G4. Same goes for the iMac G3. They at least made distinctions between the models, more than just a firewire port addition, airport addition, etc.

I'm not convinced it's absurd if this is their low cost of entry switcher machine. BYOKDM doesn't work if your current display won't plug into the thing.

Firewire is not absurd for a desktop either.

Except for the current Mac Mini. :)

I do think that the back panel design (especially that power button) do look quite dated design wise. Even if they just did a small change that was just cosmetic it would be more believable as an actual release product.
