This is one anecdote. It seems like every week vloggers are just trying to find something wrong with Apple hardware. Then forums fill up with a bunch of comments from people who don’t even own this stuff. Whatever.
I don’t think theyre trying to find a flaw. This is definitely a big deal. I bought a brand new 27” 5K iMac and was experiencing Bluetooth connection problems from day one. First I tried to solve it thinking it was software related. After three system restall Apple agreed with me to bring it back for repair. After three weeks I got my iMac back. They installed a complete new logicboard (why????). Little scratch on the back, display didn’t align with the aluminum body and after working 5 minutes the same issues with Bluetooth appeared. Phoning Apple again and it’s back in repair for three weeks now. I’m holding my breath but working with Apple since 1989 I’ve never had issues like this before. I really hope this is an exception but some of my friends who bought the latest MacBook Pro also experienced problems. This is for me reason to believe the quality of Apple is going downhill like the rest of their products.

Another great piece from Steve on Apple going on the wrong path...

Minute 39:15:

“what ruined apple wasn’t growth what ruined apple was values […] they cared about their own glory and wealth than what built Apple in the first place which was making great computers for people to use, they didn’t care about that anymore, and they didn’t have a clue about how to do it…”

Steve is no longer around to save Apple again. RIP

The problem is not just the hardware. A poor quality item can always sneak through. For me the shocking and inexcusable part of the story is that an Apple employee told this guy that Apple was not prepared to provide support for a product sold by Apple with an Apple logo on it.

Apple is now officially a franchise.

Not a fair characterisation. The guy installed a user-installable item and it wasn't up to the quality anyone should reasonably expect it to be, even before considering the price and the 'pro' categorisation of the items.

Good on him for making this a known issue and making Apple address it, I say. It's not like Apple want to have a flawed stand/VESA mount situation, I'm sure. The guy and his video/complaint was very reasonable I think, unlike some other 'I broke my computer by treating it badly and they won't give me a new one' videos out there.
Yeah, I’m not afraid to call out videos like this when they are in direct, blatant violation of the warranty (see also: Linus), but Apple’s pretty clearly in the wrong here.

An Apple-sold and -supported user-installable hardware modification, unless it’s explicitly stated otherwise, should be user-uninstallable by assumption. And should something go wrong here, they haven’t trained enough people to know how to fix it...and I have no clue why they haven’t.

Every day I come on here I read comments of people saying,” I’ll just build a Hacktinosh.” Or “ Apple doesn’t care about its customers.” “This stuff is a rip-off.” And on and on. If people don’t like Apple, why are they wasting their time on Mac forums? Build your own tower, use Windows or Linux and shut up.
Because they care. Apple used to have my full confidence. But their hardware design has trended towards bad and software (both UI and UX) has been less than stellar.

Because the things that he and his team created didn’t have problems....
Overheating macs (from the original Macintosh to the 1st gen MacBook Air), antennagate, MobileMe, etc.

Steve Jobs is a great visionary, but he’s not a saint. Just let him rest in peace.

Screwed by Chinese screws
And I won’t be surprised. The Chinese have no problems switching to out of spec materials to save cost, and sometimes things slipped. Hope Apple can sort this out.

I do think Apple could’ve responded better. It’s bad for a company’s image to be tainted by a few employees not being helpful. Good thing they are trying to sort this out.

The point is, for me at least, this latest screw up speaks of sloppiness at Apple's QC.

Oooh! Looks good! So thiiiiiiin! *All bow down to Jonie Ive* is not the way forward.

These machines, Pro or Consumer market, have to be fit for purpose. And that means testing it… rigorously.

Apple failed to provide adequate support and failed to quality control on third party adapters. But after checking more of Snazzy Labs videos its easy to see he's doing it for the hits as this video shows:

Acting like upgrading his own iMac he can do it cheaper which is also faster performance is no surprise.

That video is embarrassing for Apple too. Assuming substantial profits were made on each of the parts he purchased (plus he bought them individually and not in bulk), that his home-BTO job came out so much cheaper than Apple’s, and higher performing as well ... no wonder Apple makes so much money and is close to being a trillion dollar company!

But all that profit makes instances of poor quality, reliability and support all the more intolerable. Cook’s response: double-down on marketing, spin and his own self-glorification. This is exactly what Jobs describes in the videos posted earlier in this thread. Apple is clearly addicted to money and profit at any cost, including the quality of their products. Sooner or later this will come back to bite them, and impact their customers’ trust and respect for the brand. I don’t want to support a company that gouges customers so significantly.

In 1995, Steve Jobs Explained Exactly How Apple Will Fail

I wish I could "like" this more than once - sums up exactly where I feel Apple is headed. That it's SJ making the comments is all the more poignant.

My question is why does this guy keep taking the mount on and off?
I'll try and answer that for you. In the video he stated he needed to record a video for his channel. To do this he wanted it back on its stand. As a tall person, he prefers to actually use the computer on a VESA mount so after recording the clip, he swapped the mount back to the VESA mount.

Not really a case of "keep taking the mount on and off" and after all, if it's simply screwed on, rather than welded, soldered, bolted, surely it's not unreasonable to be able to swap back and forth at least once?

Like I say, the answer to your question was in the linked video.

Glad to have helped.

This case in just another example of how bad Apple support is becoming. They refuse to accept responsibility for anything. I’ve had several running battles with them over the past couple of years. Sadly I wouldn’t recommend any Apple products to friends and family.

A few years back, Apple store in Pasadena dropped my two month old iMac Retina and slightly damaged the glass shield insert. They gave me a new iMac while I kept the perfectly fucntioning old one. good times.

A few months ago, I watched a 'Genius' drop someone's iPhone onto the floor. He picked it up and gave it straight to the customer. I would not have accepted it and would have insisted on a new phone. It didn't have to look damaged to be damaged. Apple's comment about dropping the 6 Plus onto a hard surface and causing touch issues feels very relevant here.

You know you're allowed to use/like a companies products while also calling them out on their BS?That's what seperates the fans from the faboys. Fanboys blindly defend. Fans want a better product/company.

I bought 5 base iMPs on 5/1 along with the VESA adapters, four for the office and one for my home office. The adapters on the office units went on easy peasy. I've waited for the home install until I finished my custom desk, which I finished late last night but saw this video a few days ago, stopped watching at around the 5 minute point, heard the claim about zinc screws around 4 minutes in which sounded like FUD to me...

That written, I opened up my adapter box and pulled out a few of the screws and then found my Festool driver's magnetic bit holder. The screws have Loctite on the first several threads. The magnetic bit holder picked up the screws without direct contact. The screws aren't zinc.

Having to replace an entire $5000 computer because a .02 cent mounting screw broke off pretty much summarizes the world of AIO iMac.

But the VESA mount and mounting hardware wasn't designed by Apple. It's a third party product. Busted fragile screws are the mount manufacturer's fault. No Apple's.
