It is worth $2,000 if:

• it can offer unreal engine 5 (and not anything inferior to that because developers wont cross develop any of their non apple VR hits).

• it does not need to be tethered to any other Apple device to do anything outstanding. All of the best features need to be accomplished by the base device.

• it is NOT the base model that will be eclipsed by even more expensive models every other year. If they come out with a better model it needs to replace the current model at the same price or better yet, gets cheaper every year.

I believe the first model will be better than the rest, thats not hard at that price. But it will be made cheaper as the integrating with the cloud gets tighter. Eventually most of the processing will occur on cloud servers and the glasses will simply stream the info to them, and not render anything.

Unreal Engine 5 has the ability to stream its data from the cloud because of the ridiculous amount of computations going on. So they better have a good backbone to handle that. But if all its going to give is high end ipad graphics its gonna be a hard pass till it gets cheaper. UE5 has the ability to render an entire city and make it possible to go inside every room of every building. THAT is worth $2,000. Having a nicer looking oculus experience is totally not worth that high of an entry price.
Don’t you need ray tracing hardware for that? Currently unavailable in AS.

1. Apple sucks overpriced POS.
2. I allrdy bought ar glasses on Kickstarter for 350 they are amazing 60-65 inch tv inside sunglasses.
3. Knowing apple you can't use any 3rd party anything on it wires stuff yah no thanks.
4. Apple repair sucks prob cost u 1700 if something minor to fix it like a losses screw.
5.Tons of competitors out there they need something super unique on these to be worth it.

But man o man my AR glasses are mind blowing. It's like having 65 inch tv in center of your sunglasses granted I would not wear in public but at home they are awesome I don't need buy tv for bedroom. It has theatre feel at night. On top that I can hook up to my switch and play games.

Tldr Nope overpriced POS company
How'd you get a photo of me wearing a POS? You got a time travel machine somewhere?

I don’t think they want YOU to get one. They’re likely looking for a few million folks, maybe folks that don’t currently own anything with an Apple logo on it, to buy them. If you get one, I’m sure they’d appreciate it, but if you don’t, I think it’s fine with them.
I always under the impression that the walled garden and tight integration was incentive for me to get ME to buy more.

No, not even for $300, because there will be no decent usage for it.
VR only makes sense on a super powered Computer with AAA ray tracing games consuming >450watt.
You do not have to do the processing in the headset though. Nvidia shield, Oculus link etc

I will wait this one out for a long time. See AR/VRs first victim already with Facebook dumping 10 billion and losing over 200 billion in the stock market, Microsoft becoming directionless with Hololens. Apple should thread carefully and not get caught up in the hype of this. Just not seeing a killer app for this except for maybe maps.

Apple really should be focusing on the autonomous car and health as the two key game changers. Aim to have the Apple Car ready by 2027 as a 20th anniversary follow up to the iPhone. Launch the AR/VR headset as a 30th anniversary followup to the iMac.
Facebook lost market cap because of Apple’s privacy changes. Unrelated to Meta.

Yeah, i know, they are fine, BUT…
The reason why these devices don’t become successful en masse is because of their price and also because they require a $1.5k- $2k PC and then comes the VR glass and games on top, so you end with a $2.5k System. Not every parent is willing to buy a such expensive computer for their kids. The average are 1.5 kids, so 2x PC that’s $5k. It will probably remains a late teenager/adult thing, and somewhat niche. The best chances for mass VR glass sales has the playstation and xbox, but the Playstation VR wasn’t the bummer and for Xbox there is none.

A complete system for around $800€ would sell well.

It’s also one of the reasons why Macs will NEVER become acceptable gaming devices. The devices that reaches a somewhat acceptable graphical performance level cost $2.5k up and still does not offer the graphics of a $1k PC. The missing games comes on top.

It’s not unrelated at all. In addition to the privacy changes, Facebook is not growing anymore on top of kids choosing other platforms like TikTok. And yes, they have dumped money into AR/VR. 10 billion is real money that’s being burned on a new category that is yet to be realized.

I still don’t get it. Maybe I’m just too old. What is a use case for this thing? Could somebody please give me a hint ?

Have you tried a great VR game?
Half Life: Alyx, Microsoft Flight Simulator in VR, Star Wars: Squadrons in VR or Beat Saber, even?

Or an amazing piece of VR productivity software such as Tilt Brush by Google?

There are some really amazing VR apps available already, the potential is huge, and when AR gets 'cracked' properly, it too will offer brilliant experiences.

OK. Thank you. Then I guess it’s not something for me.

What can it do?

What's it for?

Web browsing? Managing your photos?

It can't be for games, as Apple have no interest in gaming.

I’d pay 3000 easily. It will be one hell of an investment that will pay dividends for me personally
