Life in a Day on your iPhone 4

While browsing YouTube this morning I came across an upcoming project called "Life in a Day" which is going to be an experimental compilation film by Kevin MacDonald and Ridley Scott.

Details here: http://www.youtube.com/lifeinaday

Anyway, after looking at all of these videos, I just thought I'd throw the project out there as an idea for something to do with your iPhone 4. The jist of the project is that you're supposed to record a "life in the day of" type of video on July 24th, and selections from the submissions will be edited together into a feature film, showing what the entire world was doing on a specific day.

Not a shill - but whether you use ReelDirector, iMovie or nothing at all right now - the makers of ReelDirector just released an awesome app which is going to make video making so much more interesting.. Just got it myself and while it does take time to render vids - they look GREAT!

here's the link to their MR post...

Hey, glad to see someone linking to my thread, lol. Anyways, thought you guys might enjoy this. This is a little video I threw together of my little cousin playing disc golf a few days ago.

This was created using a combination of applications which included iMovie, ReelDirector, CinemaFX for Video, Slowmo, and Photoforge.

Process:
I chose three videos and a picture. I used CinemaFX to apply two of the same filters to all of the videos. I then used the third video used in the clip and applied a -2.0x slow motion effect via the Slowmo app. I edited the picture used as the final scene with Photoforge. Then, combined all three videos using iMovie and also applied the song here as well. I like to use iMovie to sync the videos the best as possible to the music. And since I don't really like how iMovie applies text to videos, I used ReelDirector for this. This resulted in the video that is shown in the link. I will add that although picture quality appeared to stay the same on the third video (the one with the added slow motion effect), it looks as if quality degraded slightly. I opened the original video and the slow motion video on my laptop and could not tell the difference when zoomed in as much as I could. Nonetheless, the video maintained its 720p HD quality across all of these apps.

Typically I like to use ReelDirector over iMovie simply because ReelDirector has more features. The only time I use iMovie is when I need to sync videos with the music. Otherwise I use ReelDirector for everything else. The only downside to using ReelDirector is it's inability to use the music that's in your iPod app (which I understand is an SDK limitation), long rendering times, and the fact that you can't watch your video as you make progress (you have to render it first before you can preview the changes). I know I must sound like a Nexvio employee or something, but I'm simply just a fan of their apps.

I hope you all enjoy it as it took about 2 hours to make! I love days off from work...

So, I thought you guys might be interested in this video. Granted, it IS shot with a 3GS, but I edited it with my 4 and I think it turned out pretty awesome! Took a more music video approach to a recent trip to Chicago with my buddies:

Hot off the presses, so it may still be processing, but that shouldn't last long.

Used CinemaFXV for the post processing, so you might be interested in checking that out, too. Juuuuuuuuuust wanted to share since I was a little proud :)
