Ah that’s right! Thanks for reminding me.I think it was 4 and 8. They later dropped the 4GB model, and cut the price of the 8GB model and even later released a 16GB model.
Then the 3G came out with all the features everyone wanted from the outset like MMS, 3G networking, and GPS.
I will get the AVP at day one in my area - probably not before May or June 2024 - but there will be other toys like the new Sony GM 300 f/2.8 before that to bridge the gap.
Compared to the new lens ( also on order ) the new AVP is only half the price. So it's all relative.
After all I go to work to do such interesting endeavors 🤣
That settles it. I should just wait for the update to the product not even released yet.
Yeah, life is too short to be waiting for maybe something better. Do it now, enjoy life.well - I am exactly in that situation but imagine waiting another three years until you'll get something better!
I am still thrilled by the idea of the AVP and I am first in line in Europe to get one - probably later in 2024 - but the same will probably apply for 2027 - potentially end of 2027.
A lot can happen and since we're living in risky times it might not even be possible ( for me ) to spend that amount of money in 2027.
I have learned in my life that the time is alway now and I stopped searching for reasons or foolish ideas to avoid things. In case I want something I get it now in case I am willing to use it.
Just got a multitude of investment for new high end speakers that excel this investment by 20x only for speakers.
So it's probably a question of your monetary situation in life.

My American desire to copiously consume and my techie desire to have The Best are in mortal conflict rn.perhaps it would be even more prudent to wait for the update to the update to the product not even released yet
a laptop is a tried and tested tool though. Its form is mature and doesn't change much. Ya generally can use them til they crap out or don't perform your work up to speed anymore. these headsets are a new field with drastic changes from model to model. The early adopters of Vision Pro will be guinea pigs to find out what works and what doesn't on real work users. and they'll quickly apply this feedback to newer cheaper devices which will then launch and the early adopters will be upset. I mean I bought quest 2 last year and wish I had a 3 but a these price points I could make the that happen cus it is just a toy still. Right now I pay over 4 grand for my Mac, and over 4 grand for my camera. both of which usually last me about 7 years... the Vision Pro will inevitably be over 4 grand... it definitely will be long in the tooth in 7 years at the rate this tech is going to evolve. I really hope they at least get the m3 with ray tracing in it to start. Truly immersive 3d environments natively on it will be incredible.... as far as professional work goes it still remains to be seem what it's like to work on a virtual display. the true resolution won't touch my 5k studio display for Fine detail work purposes but it will be a hell of a lot better than a quest which quickly gives eyestrain using a browser. As the article says, apparently Version 2 is 3 full years out so it becomes a question of what "quick" means.
Furthermore, if how much we pay for something drives how long we are likely to keep using it, then this purchase will likely be used for about as long as current MBpro 16" sold for $3499 in the store right now...

I'm seemingly odd man out in this crowd where I lean pretty POSITIVE on this product. If that sense doesn't get changed when I get to try one myself in store such that I then purchase THIS one, I probably WILL use it for the next 4-6 years before replacing it with what may be version 3 or 4 in 2028-30.
Is it a toy? Is it a useful tool? To be determined. My imagination has it delivering an any-size MB screen anywhere I happen to travel. That appears to be very likely based upon the WWDC demo showing it doing exactly that... AND that much cheaper ones can do that at their much poorer resolutions. If that, I see it as a super-sized "lid" of a MB that may equate to up to half of a $3499 price now forever locked to a 16" size. For double the price of a MB lid to get any size of screen on demand doesn't seem expensive or "toy" to me.
But to each his own. Most seem to perceive that this is only an Apple Quest, able to play a few games and that's about it. If that's all it is, Quest (at much lower cost) for the win. But I suspect it is much more than only that... and most of us should harbor that same suspicion.
It's my opinion having seen the VR/AR market to date. Take it or leave I don't care. What is the reason for your reply? You think your opinion actually matters but it doesn't. No need to reply to this you're irrelevant. What is the basis for your prognostication? Without a reason, the statement is irrelevant and meaningless.
It was a watershed moment in personal computing history.M1 was a watershed moment in Mac history.

I can already tell this thing is going to sell out quickly. They’re only making ~400k units for launch and there are tons of tech enthusiasts with money. Just look at the posts in this and other online forums…There won't be a Vision Pro 2 because this one will tank.
If they can get some kind of wireless energy going, eventually this will be contacts or optical implants... and it will be like removing the giganto notch & island from our faces.
In all scenarios of "make these smaller" and "until these look like regular glasses...", this power issue will be the key constraint. Yes, there are already some VR glasses that look like glasses/sunglasses but their featureset vs. Vpro will likely significantly differ. Else, trying to fit some battery into the "regularly glasses" rims or stems seems like it would be very little battery.

(MMS didn't happen until 3.0.)
It's kinda funny how some were complaining that 1.x and 2.x lacked MMS, given how little it amounted to not many years later. Like, who used MMS by the time the iPhone 5 had come out?
MMS was a huge deal in 2007-2009 when not everyone had smart phones and data plans. You could send receive mms on a feature phone.
no, I was just marveling that such resolution was even possibleI heard that this is the first production OLEDoS display to be used, one of the reasons for the massive price tag. When you say 3000-4000-ppi makes it sound like there are a lot out there, is that true?
Imagine you spend $3,499 and one year later the next model ist brighter, lighter and faster. Of course that happens with many products, but it is always frustrating. That's why I usually do not buy the first model.
