pretty ignorant aren't you?
back to the point where i mentioned that Windows users only use 11-13% of what is integrated in the OS.

http://infosecuritymag.techtarget.com/2002/feb/features_scripting.shtml

you may be a power MAC user, but you seem to be comparing yourself to a basic Windows user just to make your e-penis look bigger.
Are you seriously comparing that to AppleScript? I hope not. Sure, there is basic scripting support in windoze ...and in Office, but the things you can do with AppleScript take it into a league of it's own.

i was simply pointing out the fact that he said there were no built-in scripting.

where our version of paint???????

though vista is now catching up to osx as far as performance and production, it still has one feature thet osx dosen't (no not clippy :D )

PAINT! were the eff is our paint? yeah i know there are 3rd party apps but come on. apple is all about creating and sharing, so why do we not have an idraw, or added functionality to preview? What do you do with a done stock mac if you want to circle a part of a picture or post a note of just doodle dammit  . i have cs2 so i really don't need it but what about those who cannot afford ps of are not tech inclined enough to download seahorse ( mostly switchers or first time computers)?

apple has the tech in place with the core technologies, but when will we see this feature built in:confused:

OS X has not crashed on me yet
OS X has not even had an application freeze on me yet
OS X is very easy to use
OS X is virus free
OS X has very good programs for it
OS X makes me happy:)

I don't care if Vista is better than OS X (probably wont be though), OS X is easy to use and offers everything that I need and want so I am very happy with my choice of switching to it from Windows.

Don't forget that in addition to Applescript you get the extremely powerful Unix shell scripting languages as well.

Urgh... from those shots especially, I really do not like the Aero look. The text behind the windows looks horrible, like looking through frosted glass or more specifically, like I don't have my glasses or contacts on and things are blurry.

But more annoyingly only specific parts are blurry, and due to being short-sighted almost all my life, it's a natural reaction to focus on whatever is blurry and try to bring it into focus. Just looking at the grabs makes my eyes feel a tad strained, not know really where to look at first. I fear watching/using it practise will make me have a headache. lol

Aqua>Xp>Aero about sums it up! XP is at least practical and no nonsence. Aero is just a bloody mess. It reminds me of what happens when people get their first opportunity on photoshop, they apply filters to every damn thing - so in this context the 'designers' at Microsoft have been using MSPaint to design the look and feel of windows up to XP, and now for Vista, they've been allowed access to Photoshop and they've gone beserk! :p

At first I thought the original poster had had too much fun with the blur tool trying to cover up text in the screenshots... then I realized its just how the vista windows overlap... Honestly it looks horrible to me, I really dont like the interface.

I do not like the blurry "Aero" title bars. I do not like that at all. It actually hurt my eyes, I think I was looking at the window and my head was expecting the background to go blurry (distance and that), not the title bar.

That's an incredibly bad design flaw. If they just HAD to use blur then perhaps have the background/behind windows blur compared to the front most one? But ouch.

Blur+OS=bad. I hope Apple never goes down that route. I think I'll stick to XP. I am excited (just as I was to see new Vista pics) to see how the next OSX will look.

And you have confirmed yourself as a troll by throwing an insult rather than define this "flexibility" you spoke of earlier.

Thanks you, I can now completely ignore your posts.

good....go back to your dark corner because you obviously haven't been reading my previous posts properly but selectively picking trying to make yourself sound smart but yet you make totally untrue comments about Windows that a clearly wrong and ignorant. and instead of admitting you're wrong you want to make me look bad.

pat yourself on the back a few more times for thinking you know anything about Vista and how inferior it is and ignoring the flaws n OSX.

I've used Windows for more than 10 years and I've switched to OSX a few months ago so I'm probably one of the most unbiased opinion you can listen to, and frankly, there isn't even comparison between a Windows system and a Mac OSX one.

Real life examples:
I get home, sit down on the couch, pick up my Apple Remote, go into FrontRow, watch a DVD...done...
Yesterday I wanted to backup some PC games I had in ISO format, I just dragged them to a Burn Folder and press burn, voilá, it's burning to a DVD...
When I'm lying in bed and don't want to get up to sleep the computer, Apple remote, click - sleep... done..
Want to show some pics to my friends without opening iPhoto. Go into spotlight, "beach kind:image", slideshow button...done..
Need to delete an application, go into applications folder, drag to trash, done...

Honestly, you keep saying Aero this and Aero that, what I want is a GUI that doesn't get in my way and that's exactly what Aqua is, it's a simple GUI, no 3D or fancy stuff but great, it means more backward compatibility (which kinda sucks in Vista, top notch PC to run the "Aero Experience") and it just doesn't get in my way when I'm trying to work, IMO a beautiful GUI is the last thing I look in an OS.

Personally, I'll never go back to Windows and if I were to discriminate all the better things OSX does better I would stay here all day. And even if Windows does something better (which I doubt but ok...), I can always click on the small parallels icon and boot into Windows in 15 secs... not bad.. tell me now, which Windows version does this?

By the way Elisha, can you point me the flaws that my Mac has? Cause I just can't find a single one in 3 months of use :)
Funny fact, I had two system crashes during these 3 months, curiously they were both while running Windows XP via Bootcamp, ironic eh?

At first I thought the original poster had had too much fun with the blur tool trying to cover up text in the screenshots... then I realized its just how the vista windows overlap... Honestly it looks horrible to me, I really dont like the interface.

I was thinking the exact same thing.

Who says it doesn't? Vista does run faster than Windows XP, apps I use more often open more quickly (SuperFetch) and there are tons of other features...

Stuff like indexed searching and the like only allow for more productivity and smoother workflow.

It is not just eyecandy, the new features and performance improvements are definitely there.

Just out of curiosity, out of all the people here who have judged Vista... how many of you have actually installed the OS and used it? And how many of you have used an operating system for more than 5 minutes that wasn't OS X?

*raises hand*
PICK MEEEE!!!

I've used Windows since 3.0. I started out on a computer with DOS. Over the years I've used a buttload (buttload is a real measurement too, go look it up) of Linux distros, as well as FreeBSD, OpenBSD, NEXTSTEP, OPENSTEP, Mac OS 6-9, Mac OS X 10.1 - 10.4.x, BeOS 4-Zeta 1.2, ReactOS, SkyOS, AmigaOS 1-3.x, OS/2 2.1 - eComStation ?.?, Rhapsody, Windows 1.1, Menuet OS, Plan 9, Windows 1.1, and Windows 2.x.

I've installed every Vista beta on my machine at home and I can't stand it for more than a day. The constant security nags and the overly complex changes made to the GUI (take Explorer, for example) completely turn me off to the system. It takes far too long to install, gets in my face far too often, and always manages to destroy my Windows XP bootloader, requiring me to jump through hoops and dig out my old XP cd to restore it. For some reason it can't even keep to its own partition and actually stored the trash can crap on both my XP partition AND the Vista partition.
Vista is like the PS3: One big disappointment. It's nowhere near as good as MS said it would be, just like Sony did with the PS3. (Just throwing this in to emphasize my point of view)

Damn you're lucky.Safari freezes up on me on a daily basis.

Vista's system requirement is quite high, and that would be difficult to sell.
and I don't really like Aero, very annoy.
about similarity with OSX? I don't see much, if you wanna ask, they are both OS, they can't be much different anyway.

anyway, wait and see the adopting rate, my university is going to adopt it in coming Jan for all the campus pcs.

Vista's requirements are not as high as most people think.
512mb or ram and 64mb video shared or dedicated. it may work with a 32mb dedicated video card. but manufactures will blow that out of proportion big time.

remember when they said XP needed at least 256mb? officially it only needed a minimum of 128mb but 256 was recommended. hardware requirements are all a conspiracy really. but of course more ram would make it run faster.

yeah maybe in 2004 when he wrote that letter
Oh, you mean back before all of the features got stripped from Longhorn? :)

Yes, we are talking about Vista. James Allchin is the Windows Development Chief. Vista was supposed to be released back in 2003 originally, so logic tells us he was neck deep in Vista at that point and didn't like what he saw. Anyone who has read any articles at all on Vista development can tell you it was one of the biggest software nightmares of all time. They are lucky they salvaged as much as they did.

the Vista today was completely rehashed from what it was supposed to be 2 years ago. hence the delay. they realized they went wrong somewhere in 2004 and totally reworked it.
no comparison whatsoever. Longhorn is the name they are keeping for the server edition that may replace Win2k3.

PAINT! were the eff is our paint?

I wholeheartedly agree. If I want to illustrate an idea it would be SO helpful to not have to wait for Photoshop to load...

And where is Pinball? Pinball rulez :p

Thanks for the article. I must admit I'm not too sure about the frosted glass effect, but the rest of Vista looks quite pleasing to the eye. Although Vista looks futuristic now, given MS's track record it'll be at least 3 years before they update it, by which time Apple will be distributing OS 11.2...
