Anyone knows if you could use a live video input from a camera to use in the mix?

Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply. I would have liked to display live footage and logos from sponsors in between. Do you know of any app on OSX or iOS that does that? Thanks!

This is such a cool idea! The AirPlay functionality is the perfect killer feature... being able to affordably mix videos and broadcast the video feed wirelessly to a projector in the back of the room using AirPlay is pretty groundbreaking. Nice work!

Funny things is this type of software is not even common on computers, which is a shame.

I remember having met the guy who created Sony Acid, in San Francisco. He had these parties called Fringe going on with his girlfriend and he already developp a similar app to mix not just music but music videos. I asked if he would released because I didn't know of any such software but he said probably not :/

Anyway I'm waiting for the iPad 4, this clearly will be the best and real iPad I've been waiting for with the possibility to not just touch but also write and draw with a pen, like you would actually except on a Tablet, and they will probably have figured out how to have a thinner Retina Display.

I have been doing visuals for 8 years at least and there are several (not plenty) of softwares like Modul8, Arkaos, Resolume, Motion Dive.

This is a really good VJ application as long you do not use the 3D Apple Keynote transitions. This would make me to get an iPad for sure.

I guess it's cool because you can do this type of stuff on a tablet. But then again, they could write this app for any tablet OS if they wanted to. They just happened to write it for iOS because it's the largest platform out there. It doesn't make the iPad look like anymore than what it is, like some people who posted before me.

This is so cool. Pioneer sells units that do video and they are a Fortune.

I just want to suggest an app if you are serious about using an iOS device to DJ. It's called "DJ Player", and it is amazing. It's pricey (I think it is $48 now; I got it back when it was $30). I find it a lot more intuitive than professional computer programs like Traktor/Serato. I am not associated with the developer in any way, I just think it is an amazing app that is overllooked by a lot of people. It still sees updates once a month or so on average.

Oh, and a cheaper sponsored version of the app called "Red Bull BPM DJ" is free to try, but requires in app purchase to fully unlock it. The Red Bull version isn't updated as frequently, but all told I think it is about $22 to fully unlock all features. I have no idea what features are absent in the Red Bull version, but I suspect there are some omissions.

On topic: vjay does look pretty cool, and the live AirPlay output looks awesome.

It's out now in Europe (€ 7.99). There is a new official video introducing the app:

And a new webpage with more details:
http://www.algoriddim.com/vjay

vjay will be available for a discounted launch price of $9.99 on June 7th, 2012.

This important statement needs urgently to be confirmed. I couldn't find any other sources telling about that discounted launch price—even not at the algoriddim's site, in their forums or in the official description of the app in the iOS App Store.

As you can see in AppShopper their other app djay was launched at a high price and then discounted later massively:

I'll hold on with buying until I get a confirmation about that launch sale. Maybe MR can tell us the source of the statement. What price will vjay have in two weeks or months or maybe even tomorrow? $5 or $20?

Algoriddim told us that it was a launch sale at $9.99, though obviously that doesn't guarantee what will happen down the line.

It'll probably set you back about 5-6k for a good Pioneer VJ setup. The DJAY app by Algoridim is surprisingly good for an app. Very fluid and accurate with the BPM. It's half price at the moment and I would definitely recommend it!

After a short test on iPad 3 I can say: Highly recommended! Really easy to control (similar to djay-app, you don't need to be a professional dj/vj), fine output via AirPlay/Apple TV (you can choose if you want a fullscreen output or have the app mirrored). Very well equipped with lots of settings.
