You can edit grub at boot. Using the grub editor I had to add video=TV-1:d to grub for my GeForce fx5200 to work on void64.

Oh, yeah, that's just the Radeon 9000. Nothing can be done, other than using a much, much older version of Linux. Try Ubuntu 12.04, because at some point between the release of 12.04 and 16.04, the AMD driver stopped working with the Radeon 9000. The only other alternative is to get a different video card. I wish I had better news for you.I've been trying to get void working on my sawtooth g4 with an agp radeon 9000, but the os keeps hanging when it gets to the lightdm login screen. I've tried adding radeon.agpmode=-1 to the boot options as well as radeon.modeset=1 without any change. What else can i try try to get it working?
Someone might pipe in on the gfx card. I don't have a clue. My G5's came with the radeon 9600 and geforce 5200 and that's what i use. I also prefer the "less is more" desktops. Lxde and xfce are the heaviest i use on powerpc, and my preferred is icewm.
No, i have nothing to do with Void. I don't even use it. I prefer ubuntu/debian. I only installed void to build my forked browsers because 32-bit void had nothing but severely broken (in epiphany only the left half of websites would display) webkit browsers, and 64-bit at the time (and probably still) had a semi busted FF quantum (bitrotted images and colors). I've read there have been webkit patches since then, but i haven't booted that machine in months to test them.
