I’m all in on Space Gray. Once you go Space Gray you never go back!

Apple Watch Series 6

After seeing them side by side in person, silver does look sharp and eye-catching but I’m leaning towards keeping my SG as it still looks more cohesive to me. And once you’re using it, the SG 16” fades into the background better, at least in the bright lighting of the apple store. If I were getting the 14” I’d probably get silver though, where the reduced surface area of the case makes it more of a tossup.

One more photo to add to the discussion:

Exactly how I feel. The 16” looks better in space gray and the 14” in silver.

The larger field of silver around the keyboard on the 16” feels a little off, as you implied, but the contrast especially with the Apple logo is fantastic so this makes the decision on the 14” especially easy for me.

Where is I think the 14 inch looks much better in space grey in the 16 inch much better and silver! Just goes to show how subjective this all is I guess!

I've had Space Grey for years and on the old MBP it looked great, but on these new ones the space grey has really bugged me.

I've been thinking why... and then it hit me - it looks like the old Toshiba Portege / Satellite (google images: grey toshiba portege) - especially now that:

a) they have remove the "MacBook Pro" lettering from below the screen
b) there is no distinctive Touch Bar
c) Keyboard is all black

Silver => Classic Old Mac
Space Grey => Classic Old Toshiba

Silver has my vote.
I think what I like about the space grey is it reminds me of my old Apple Titanium PowerBook G4.

I've bought a Space Gray 16" Pro Max.

I just think the Space Gray looks more modern, sophisticated, and sleek, and the lower contrast between the black and grey looks classier. However there's nothing wrong with the silver, you can think of it as the timeless and classic design, and it's got that reputation for a reason. For me however after over a decade the silver design was becoming a bit tired and uninspiring especially with so many other manufacturers now copying it.

Got the space grey. The silver as lot of people say brings back the old MBP vibes, but why would you want your new device to look retro? Ofc if you're into that kind of things. Went with the SG as it looks like the future lol ?

So I originally went Silver because I think it looks classier, and all the comments about wearing/aging better. But after seeing the Space Grey in the store, I switched. The darker body next to the screen is way more comforting on the eyes (at least for me). I still think the Silver looks better, but I'll always make the tradeoff for the lower eye strain!

It really doesn’t matter. It depends on the purchaser, whether he/she likes silver or space gray. Interesting why even people post this kind of question.

I think on the whole we're a large friendly community who share a love for Apple products so it's interesting to see what Apple products people choose and the reasoning behind it, it's always interesting to get someone else's perspective on something as they might have thought of things that never occurred to you. It's interesting to see what drives one person to make one choice and someone else another. As you say, there is no "wrong" choice. Why do people post these type of questions?... either curiosity or wanting help with a choice they can't decide over, or wanting reassurance over a purchase they've made.

I've owned quite a few Mac notebooks over the years and every single one of them has been Silver. That changed a few days ago when I purchased my 2021 16" M1 Max in Space Grey. I was originally holding out for a Silver but when I saw the Space Grey appear in stock at the nearby Apple store, I didn't hesitate to order it. With stock levels being practically zero, it felt more like a **** or get off the pot type of moment so I pulled the trigger. What do I think of it? I have absolutely zero regrets going with SG. In some light, it looks almost identical to my 2019 16" i9 in Silver -

But in other lighting conditions, it's completely opposite -

In some circumstances I can be very resistant to change but this one has been great :)

Actually, I look at any item whether it’s a car, clothing or a computer and if I like the color I buy that color. No mystery or what other people think of a color that matters to me personally. It’s what I like not, caring about what other people like. Simple ?

Space gray looks better, but silver is more durable. I've seen enough failures of the space gray anodization wearing off that I won't bother with it.

In particular on the large 16" silver is just so huge and reflective I'm not a fan (but it's what I ordered)

Both look great, though I went with silver as have had a SG laptop since 2016. Kind of wished they changed the colours up with the redesign, reckon Midnight would’ve looked great.

Midnight would be awesome. Sapphire Blue to match my iPhone would be pretty sweet too ?

I'm Space Grey all the way, but I do like the look of the silver's in the new models. The only reason I wouldn't consider silver is because I've had problems in the past of the silver finish getting marked up easily with dark spots. This was all the way back in the Unibody Mac days so I presume the current day machines are less susceptible to getting marked up.

tis is what I'm debating now. I think the silver looks better hands down... but I worry its a little distracting...

I hope they bring StarLight to the laptop color options.
Really? I hate them so much for replacing silver with starlight on the iPad mini, iPhone and Apple Watch. They can add new options, but the same silver has always been an option and I want it to stay that way?

So I didn't expect to write a comment here but I had the same issue deciding for the right color. Personally I also think that silver looks a bit more elegant when comparing them on photos which made me consider cancelling my order of a SG version. After unboxing the SG however all my doubts went away immediately. SG just looks stunning + you have the benefit of having a not so distracting contrast between keyboard and body which might be easier on your eyes. Also as a Dev I go completely dark theme in my IDE's anyways which rounds it off quite nicely.

Just pick any of these colors they are both incredibly good looking. But keep in mind that in the end its just a tool for whatever you're doing and that you're probably better off worrying about other, more important things ;P

I bought the space gray 16" M1 Pro because I think it looks the best out of the two. One thing I don't like about the silver one is it reflects light too much while using and can be distracting.
