Considering we already have reviews, I doubt there'll be any major update... maybe a software update that adds IM or MMS?

Could be, I actually expect apple to do so and add things like games and maybe MMS. Who knows really, but I do feel Stevie has an ace up his sleeve...

Can anyone please help?

I have a Dell XP and MSN (although I do have both cable broadband and DSL as a back-up) at home.

Question: Does anyone know how I can sync my MSN email and address book and bookmarks onto the Iphone? Do I have do something with Outlook Express first?

Thanks!

Walt Mossberg, David Pogue and the rest are not human?

Demi-gods or Demi-geeks if you will. They see so much junk flying across their desk, any change from the norm is going to get them excited.

I just want to hear a review from guys on sites like this, that really get down and bitch about problems with the device, or really defend any problems.

In the tech news world I guess I feel there are a lot of things that will help sway a review. I think they all have integrity, but if they want to review iPhone 2.0 before everybody gets their hands on it, they better play nice. ;)

If I have a home computer (MAC) and a work computer (PC) and I want to sync calendars and address books back and forth, I'm assuming I'm not going to be able to do this even though it's a cross platform device. If you activate it on a Mac, I'm sure you can pull information from other macs, but I wondered if it was a similar situation (as with the iPOD) where you can only use one platform at a time... hmmm

I'll wait for HUMAN reviews before I shell out the bucks.

It's not really an interplatform limitation. Most likely, you can only sync with 1 system, even if the other system is of the same type. Sync your contacts and calendars through the internet so they are all on your machine that syncs with iPhone, that's the idea.

I find this regarding the SIM card to be phrased very curiously for Apple...

Can I use the SIM card from my current mobile phone?
You should use the SIM card that came preinstalled in the iPhone.

should?????

Maximum operating altitude: 10,000 feet (3000 m)
Interesting, so does this mean that using it on a plane might be a problem ? Then again, the cabin is pressurized so I dunno.

Damn, guess those Everest climbers who wished for an iPhone are gonna have to wait for rev B!:D

Now seriously, I don't think airplanes are a problem because of the pressurized cabin, I think the maximum altitude is because of the change in pressure.

I bet you iTunes 7.3 includes the iPhone Activation portion, and the iPhone they received was probably already pre-activated.

Or it COULD have a magical firmware upgrade to allow MMS, video messaging and iChat! Somehow, I doubt that but you never now, Jobs and the iPhone team have been incredibly quick to respond to specific concerns and questions.

How long does it take to activate my new iPhone?
Activation times can vary, but if you’re setting up a new line, it may take as little as a few minutes. If you’re porting a number from another carrier, it could take longer. While you’re waiting, you can make calls but not receive them.

Are they talking about making calls on your old service provider?

Or do they mean you can make emergency calls only on the iPhone when you don't have a sim card in it?

I didn't quite understand what they meant?

Sam

Here you go: you will not be putting a SIM in the iPhone. AT&T will be transferring your account to indicate that it uses the new SIM built in to the iPhone (the old one will almost certainly be invalidated, making returning the iPhone a much bigger hassle if you'd like to go back to a previous phone).

You'll be able to make calls on your iPhone while you wait for them to get your number transferred. As soon as it is transferred you'll be able to receive calls.

You would think it would have wireless N capabilities since Apple is pioneering this stuff.

I'm a wireless network newb, but won't that slow down my home N network when I connect with it?

Just curious.

no. it wouldn't cost *that* much more, but yeah, the battery would suffer. Your 802.11n network won't though. When 802.11g was drafted, it included a penalty for allowing 802.11b devices to be used along side other "g" devices - it would bring the network 'down' to its level. With "n," this is not the case. The draft (remember, it's not finalized. But rest assured, most, if not all, of your current n hardware will work with the final specs) allows for b/g devices to connect and not penalize the "n" devices. This is MUCH nicer. Read this for a little more explanation: http://arstechnica.com/journals/apple.ars/2007/06/26/speed-test-airport-extreme-lives-up-to-its-name

Interestingly, 802.11n is unfazed by the presence of 802.11g or even 802.11b stations. The original UFO-shaped 54Mbps Airport Extreme can do 3.3MB/s on 802.11g, but as soon as an 802.11b station shows up on the same channel, this drops down to around 2MB/s. Not so on the 802.11n model: a 802.11n transfer would happily continue at speeds north of 6MB/s, but the poor 11Mbps 802.11b station would only get a packet through every third try or so. In my opinion, ditching the mechanisms that must protect 802.11b stations is a good call on Apple's part (assuming it's intentional).

In actuality, it wasn't Apple's call - the specification was written up by IEEE, not apple. Apple simply implemented the protocol the way that IEEE specified.

audible format 1/2/3 only? what about 4? most people with ipods download audible format 4. with the iphone restricted to 1/2/3/ you have to redownload everything again (fortunately you don't have to pay again). that sucks given that an audiobook is ~200MB.

I think apple includes these operating ranges just to be safe (legally speaking) (i've operated my rev.A macbook well over 3,000m high.. and in temperatures well below 10°C).
Electronic devices are very susceptible to changes in pressure and temperature indeed, but don't exaggerate :p.

4 New Widgets auto-download when you activate it?

I would not be surprised if Google Office type apps where one of them...

Ms. Pacman free download would kick ass too! :D

The 10,000 ft is standard iPod altitude specs. Though I have used all my iPods snowboarding up to 12,000+ ft.

The VPN is really important for many wireless networks and accessibility for other people. Definitely good news.

I like the iTunes 7.3 as well. :)

This will be a great benefit for me because I go to Northwestern University, and pretty much all their Wi-fi is through a VPN. Thanks Apple, you just clinched my iPhone!!!:)

The iPhone is a good thing. It'll help Apple, hopefully in the way the iPOD did. But, I have to say, glad it's finally coming out. Now we can get on with our lives.

So are you saying that a sim card is already pre-assigned with every iPhone?
(I thought the iPhone had a SIM card slot to insert in your SIM card? No?)

I hope I will be able to buy the phone, come home, update my current AT&T (cingular) plan with the iPhone data package through iTunes, and enjoy?

What am I going to be waiting for exactly? The 3 minutes it takes to set up the iPhone through iTunes?
