This would have made more sense, but Apple was likely trying to accomplish 2 things: Make sure it's available before the Note 4, and prevent their own cannibalization of people that would order a 6 and then return it for the 6+ they really wanted all along. Getting it out there helps them gauge what the demand really is for going from 4 to 5.5in. ...they certainly learned.
Was anyone able to keep their UDP and still pay upgrade pricing? If you're waiting in line tomorrow, are you planning on trying to do this?

Nah. The pre-auth dropped off on Tuesday and nothing since then. Guessing I won't get anything for tomorrow and thats fine. Planning on stopping by an Apple or VZW store this weekend and checking them out in person...and if I stumble across one in store (doubtful) I'll cancel the pre-order.
I think they just flat out did not have nearly enough I phone 6 pluses ready to go for launch, they should of just delayed the launch for the Plus by 2 weeks to try to have enough stock.
FedEx WON"T Change delivery address...
I just spoke with a FedEx rep to see if I could re-route shipment to a FedEx office so that I could pick it up early in the day....She informed me that the 'sender' has required that they at least attempt delivery to the address first, before they can divert it to a FedEx location.....Oh well guess I'll be waiting/pacing until it arrives.
Hopefully it'll come early, not sure I can sit still until 8pm!

Mine has been "at local fedex facility" since Sunday, and today it updated saying "Shipment information sent to FedEx". Does that mean they didn't have my address until today?
I'm trying this using the SIM swap method. But I won't know if it worked until tomorrow.

Dont know if sharing my experience is helpful but I stayed up until 3:01 AM EST to get my order in. I'm in metro Atlanta. I didnt pay that much attention to the time the order was completed, but Verizons site must have been getting slammed because my first attempt to submit the order got hung. I didnt wait, I immediately refreshed my browser and submitted the order again - the second time, it went through. I'd guess it took about 10 minutes total, so the order was submitted somewhere between 3:10-3:12ish AM EST. I never got the confirmation email (my fault-email address was wrong) but I did get a confirmation request via text at 5:28 AM and I didnt see it or respond until I woke up around 8:00 AM EST.
Initially, the status on Verizons site showed order received, no delivery info available (or something like that) until Tuesday when the message changed to something like processing, check back tomorrow. So on Wednesday 9/17, the status changed to UPSSH, ship date 9/16 and my account was debited for the purchase very early that morning. Thats when I looked at the UPS app on my phone and saw detailed shipping info. The phone should arrive tomorrow 9/19.
