Hi all, I'm in need of a new phone, kinda—I have a cracked iPhone 7, 128GB

I can get an iPhone 8 very cheap right now

But I think the iPhone 8 is boring, I went into an Apple Store and picked it up and was not impressed, it feels the same as my Jet Black 7

With how delayed the iPhone X will be, should I wait until the X2? What I'm thinking is even though the doors will open in November, it'll be delayed until February? Or will production clear up, because the X isn't a perfect phone, and I don't want to buy a phone halfway through its cycle when a new one is a few months away

TL;DR The iPhone X will be delayed until February, and at that point why not wait until the X2?

Is the iPhone X delayed? I didn’t think it was released yet?

I bought the 8 Plus for exactly that reason. Not gonna wait for a first generation product and by the time I would get my hands on it the next one would be out in like 8 months. I’m holding out for the 6.5 inch iPhone X Plus next year.

Or you could just spend the $150 and fix the 7. That’s what I would do. Nothing wrong with the phone.
It’s $150 for the 7 or $200 for the 8

A concern for others, not me

It’s not, but once it comes out everyone will be buying one, and we’ve heard supply isn’t great

You’re making a lot of assumptions, based on unsubstantiated rumors. Where did you get February from?

If you want the X, order the X. If you aren’t sure, get your 7 fixed and wait until next year. But don’t base your decision on nonsense and guesswork.
February is just a guess, and I’m not sure if I want the X

As the guy said above, by the time I get my hands on the X the X2 will be coming shortly

Either way, fix it. Sell it for way more than $150....

If you can get an 8 for $200. Go for it.

If your current phone is still usable, then hold onto it, but order the X. If the wait time for the X turns out to be later than you'd like, then cancel your order & either grab an 8 or fix your 7.
Good point, I could wait to see how far the X gets pushed back

But the only problem is, the dates are wrong sometimes—for example, my original Apple Watch was supposed to come in June, and it came on April 28th

It makes the most sense, but it’s hard to be for sure?

I think that a lot of people who give up on getting the X before they even try because of reports of delays are going learn a lesson about not buying into everything they read when they see people walking around with them next month.

It might be hard to get, but there will be millions of them in circulation starting on the 3rd, and everyone here has as good a chance of nabbing one as anyone else, so I don’t get why so many people are saying that there’s no point in trying because they won’t get one until some time next year.

Not many of us want to keep the same old phone for more than a year. Getting a new iPhone every year is something special, new and exciting.
I have a yearly upgrade on my iPhone, I get that. Just upgraded to the 8 from the 7.

The crack should be fixed if you are getting a new phone. If the crack doesn’t bother, leave it and keep the phone.

He brought up the fact that his phone is screwed up, lending the impression that it’s a reason he’s getting a new phone. If it’s a reason, it’s not a very good reason.

If he gets a new phone, the crack should be fixed....negating it as a reason to get a new phone. If he wants a new phone, he wants a new phone....

But whatever you like. My i7 plus runs great with no problems and the new release is not compelling me at all to waste my money upgrading.

That’s what I did. I’m actually mostly worried about iPhone X software. Not only is the UI atrocious and needs work done, but iOS 11 doesn’t even run well on current devices, much less one with DRASTICALLY different hardware requirements. I predict a total software mess.

The 8 plus is a great upgrade. Yeah it looks similar to the 7/7 plus but it has a beautiful glass back, LTE-A (I’m getting 200 mbps download), wireless charging, better battery life than the 7+, faster A11 fusion chip, true tone display and better camera. So really it’s a huge upgrade on the internals. Plus it’s a tried and tested design, I’d say way more refined then the 7 series. Its definitely worth the upgrade, unless you want FaceID and an OLED screen.

What apple watch took 9 months to deliver??

I am really not worried about potential delays I've always had good luck on securing a launch day delivery even with my Jet Black plus last year I only had to wait until the monday after launch.

If you're not in a complete rush, then you're in a good position where you can at least get a date estimate. If the ETA's months away, then get the 8. If the ETA's sooner than you expected, then hold out, but if there's a delay added in the mean time, you can cancel & get the 8 anyway.

Ball's in your court. Don't spend money on a device you might regret if you don't have to, but if you do commit, make use of your rights as a consumer to get out of it (cancelling pre-orders).

This might just be a sign you don’t get enough fulfillment in your life. Join a charitable organization, make new friends, take some vacations. Get busy with being productive and experiencing life. I guarantee you that you won’t even remember your phone is old then. Getting a new phone isn’t going to fill the void. (Speaking from personal experience)

Me personally, I will wait until the iPhone X Plus or even X generation 2. My 7 Plus is working perfectly fine and while the new one is going to be cool, I would rather wait for the version that’s going to have all the kinks worked out and Apple accessories available. Not sure if anyone else notices this, but Apple always makes good official accessories for the 2nd version of the product. An X with an official battery case would probably be a killer set up.

If the OP pre-orders quickly and truly wants the iPhone X, there's a high chance they will receive it Earlier than expected. Or, if the OP is unsure if the iPhone X is for them or not, then repair the iPhone 7 and use it for another year until next year with the second generation iPhone X.

If I can’t get my hands on the X this year, then I might as well just wait for the X2 and possibly have it in the plus size.
