That's ok for you to wait it out, but some of us have college in September and can't wait it out as long realistically.

I'm not going to buy 2013 hardware this late without a price drop. The back to school promotion only gives me €70, which is a rip off.

I'll bite if there's a spec bump and price drop like what happened to the air, but such minor things like that should be done between now and August. It's ridiculous to leave it until October or November for such a small upgrade if it's not going to be broadwell.

My understanding of the back to school promotion was that it's used as a way to clear out inventory and make room for new product. Unfortunately, it's not really so the students can get the latest and greatest on the cheap.

Yeah, it's really just in my best interest to wait it out because the back to school promotion is a rip off when it's a price cut and a slight spec upgrade that we need at the very least

I agree... no one is going to buy a minor spec bump in October when they know by December or January a major upgrade is coming.. which is why I think that we should see a minor spec bump should be coming soon it latest in August

Unfortunately I really won't be able to wait any further than October if that's when they decide to refresh. I already need one for college in September. If they just have a Haswell refresh in October and deliberately miss the back to school offer, it will be very greedy of them and I'll be annoyed.

It'll still be a great machine, but I will be a bit pissed off at them for being so underhanded, especially since they'll know by August if they can make the Broadwell update or not and there would be no excuse in giving a refresh sooner.

I find it quite odd that we haven't really heard of any rumours or speculation about the next rMBP.

It is, so I guess it's just a business as usual sort of update with nothing major.

A new trackpad without a button is the only one I can think I've heard of.

You get also the edu-discount (in many countries).

Same here. I'll start University in October. Would it be nice a speed bump and an upgraded graphic card, but that's unlikely.

I highly doubt that apple isn't releasing a minor spec bump because of greed, after all it will be a minor bump. I am very sure they should release it soon in august as they did it for macbook air two months earlier in April... I also really don't want to buy a 2013 machine now.. but can't wait till October for sure and just maybe until September if there is a minor refresh rumor..

only problem is apple likes $$$$$$$$$$ ; so they won't release something in january or february they are going to go through a whole cycle and release the broadwell version of it around may- june if they release in october ; if they release july-august , then expect february - march release for broadwell

if they like money they'll release it now more people will buy it than in October when the back to school season is gone and people have made other choices maybe... back to school actually gives Apple more profit anyways as it may stimulate more people to make apple as a choice

I say all this because I doubt that this specific minor refresh has to do with greediness for Apple

completely agree because if you think about people that for education purposes that are going to buy a 750m or even a 15" retina ; most likely did some research ; in which they realized the device is 9months or so old ; so if your going to spend that much money like me why not wait a little longer so you can get a 2014 label compared to saving an extra $100 as you still get edu discount even when B2S isnt going on ; you just don't get the giftcard . 2-3 mnth wait for 2014 label > $100 gift card imo ; also matters if you need it or not

Stay tuned.
We WILL see an upgrade to rMBP this year, prior to Xmas. If you have a working laptop and can wait; wait. If you NEED one now, buy now. The current rMBP is still an awesome laptop that will last you numerous years (which will bring you to this decision again further down the line :p ).

You're welcome

Samsung has new PCI-e SSD's in the works which can reach speeds up to 1600 MB/s

We might see these new PCI-e SSD's from Samsung in a future rMBP. If Intel keeps delaying Broadwell, it could be included in the rMBP Broadwell.

Do you have some sort of source to back you up? Or are you just using some good old-fashioned common sense?:D

I think it's madness to get a rMBP at this stage.
If there's no broadwell coming, we'll get a slight spec bump and price cut like the air in the coming weeks.

You won't have to wait long to find out if that's the case, and it turns out that way, you'll get a far better deal.

Probably seems stupid for this to be my first post here, but - how much longer is not much?

This purchase is for my first Mac and I have been waiting fairly patiently all this year. In a sense I am not necessarily in a rush, but I am not - and cannot - wait until January 15. Honestly, I am ready to pull the trigger today on a spec'd put 15in but I also understand the loss of value in the event I pulled said trigger the Apple comes out with a minor spec bump / price drop weeks later.

I suppose I'll wait until the end of July and see what happens, but if no reliable updates are available by then - I'll just bite the bullet using the education or military discount and still hope to secure the $100 gift card.

if you can wait till september/october because they 95% will release something by then for sure even if its a minor spec bump

I'm limited to what 'sources' I can list.
But anyone who can wait 3-4 months, please do as you will be rewarded with a late '14 book.

But like I always stand by, if you need one now and don't care about dropping a few $$ on future resell, buy now. It's still a great machine!

What about a macbook air? Will we see that sooner at least?

What do you guys think about Apple possibly including a 4K panel in the 15" Retina MacBook Pro?

A few other manufacturers have added those to their high end 15" portables now and I'm wondering if the time is right for Apple to jump on board.

One thing that I think would add weight to this is the current 15" has the scaled resolution mode to offer a 1920x1200 desktop area (4K Retina) and so to me it would indicate they want to offer that higher resolution or they feel the need to provide it due to competitors shipping 1920x1200 and higher displays on their 15" portables.

What are your thoughts? Personally I would welcome the change.

In honesty, I think a 4K panel would be best use in a 17" MBP where you've more space utilise those pixels more effectively.

I always see professions pine after a 17" model and I think this would really cater to their needs.

I'd love another 17" but it just isn't happening. Other manufacturers are all offering 1920x1080 or 1920x1200 on their 15" laptops and then some of them are offering 4K which is a pixel doubled 1920x1080 / 1920x1200 desktop.

The MacBook Pro 15" stands out against this by offering a much lower resolution for the desktop at only 1440x900 / 2880x1800 when pixel doubled. It should really be 1920x1200 / 3840x2400 to match their competition.

I mean when it comes right down to it, would you rather have retina resolution at only a 1440x900 working space or would you have have 1920x1200 without retina? Cause for me I'd prefer the 1920x1200 without retina but if other companies (Toshiba, Lenovo etc) can shoehorn a 4K panel in to that space and give us both a 1920x1200 working area with a retina like mode then I think Apple should do the same.
