I want to believe that, must if it isn't true? If I buy a new 2600€ rMBP now and in September / October another model comes out?

Apple may give the MacBook Pro's a minor Haswell CPU refresh in Q4, but if you need a new computer now, then buy now (be sure to avoid buying directly from Apple, Amazon undercut Apple by several 100 for standard config machines). If you don't need a computer now then just wait for the Broadwell refresh.

Broadwell will not greatly benefit the MacBook Pro's anyway aside from slightly better performance, slighly better power efficiency & maybe a 10% boost with integrated graphics. In day to day tasks nearly everyone wouldn't be able to tell the difference between a Haswell or Broadwell based machine.

Broadwell CPU's will greatly change tablets & Ultrabooks though, with the Y series CPU's. They are not powerhouse processors and probably won't compete with ULV processors in the current MBA when it comes to performance, but when it comes to all day battery life, they will be a game changer.

If Broadwell is merely the "Tock" this time around. Skylake is what should excite people & the industry.

Part of the problem is, seeing in the Windows "about this MAC" something saying: Macbook Pro - Later 2013

That's is last year technology, and if you are like me, who sells you last Mac to buy a new one, every once and then, well... you don't won't to loose more money than you have to. What I'm saying is that a simple speed bump will help me take the step to purchase a new MAC, that way we will have a 2014 model.

but if you need a new computer now, then buy now [...] If you don't need a computer now then just wait for the Broadwell refresh.
For most people, the concept of "need" is not as binary as you imply.

Need consists of many shades of gray.

It becomes a question of how much pain, aggravation, and slowness are you are willing to endure to as you hold out for something that might give you:

1) Meaningfully better ______ (fill in the blank)
2) Value from unknown new features that could be delivered beyond a spec bump
3) Residual value upon resale if you wait for several months.

in all honesty im just like you ; i really could careless if its 10-15% better performance with broadwell ; the only genuine thing im waiting for is the 2014 tag ; as if i don't want to buy something thats a year old that costs $2600

Based on this information it sounds like the macbook pro is not being refreshed this year. Those Y CPU's are for tablets. It stated the U CPU's are slated for 2015. So we're probably looking at a early 2015 refresh for the macbook pro lineup.

its also what the above chinese website had said.

According to the leaked Intels roadmap, Y series ia the only Broadwell CPU coming this year

so then the macbook air at least does it use Y series? or does it also use U?

Ya come to find out broadwell is delayed again. Intel is releasing mobile haswell refresh so perhaps the macbook pro is getting refreshed but only with a minor speed bump and a new dGPU. The 860m. JSYK the 860m is the rebranding of the 780 TI GPU.

Maybe that the July 13 could be the date for that minor speed bump?
And that speed bump may happen only on the high end Mac... What I know, is that a computer stamped with 2013 that costs 2600€ is not for me to buy.

Well based on rumors and current release dates here's my prediction.

CPU get's refreshed to the following:
Haswell Mobile Refresh arriving by Q4 2014. Core i7-4980HQ, Core i7-4870HQ, Core i7-4770HQ, Core i5-4210H, respectively, to replace the existing 4960HQ, 4860HQ, 4760HQ, 4200H.

Graphics card gets upgraded:
the graphics card is expected to upgrade to more advanced, energy-efficient Maxwell architecture, which is now acclaimed 750 Ti, also known as 860M.

thunderbolt 3 won't be out until skylake it looks like. FYI thunderbolt 3 gets a new connector.
http://www.zdnet.com/thunderbolt-3-beating-a-dead-horse-7000028645/

broadwell delayed. It would make logical sense that skylake would also be delayed.

It'll still use DDR3. I think there were rumors thrown out there that Apple will anodize the macbook pro but I'm thinking that's unlikely. You might see HDMI upgraded to 2.0 to support 4k. I'd be curious if Apples event might center around 4k. Such as displaying their event in 4k.

So that's what I think you'll see in September/October for the macbook pro 13"/15" models. You won't see Broadwell mobile CPU's until June 2015. I bet skylake comes out in September/October 2015. Intel has catching up to do so I'd be curious if 2015 will be a bad year to buy a computer until things settle down in 2016.

So honestly if you want to wait for the greatest and latest technology you'll be waiting for awhile. In my opinion this coming refresh just buy one or buy one now. I don't see any reason to wait on buying a macbook pro unless you already have one.

I have the classic and I do want to upgrade to the retina later this year.

What sorts of upgrades can be expected for the refresh to come in September/October? Is it worth waiting for over the current rMBP 13"?

I really hope that if broadwell is going to be delayed until next year, they don't bother with a refresh this time around. A speed bump doesn't seem worth it if it's just going to be replaced in 5 months.

Is what's being upgraded the default graphics subsystem that would make Retina part operate better / faster for video , photo editing, CAD.

Or is that something only game lovers would need?

(my impression from a different thread was the separate graphics card was an optional feature?)

If you need something for CAD get the Mac Pro with the professional firepro graphics cards.

The Mac Pro refresh will be in fact coming out in September with Haswell-EP. So there are CPU's coming out that should be pretty amazing. It's also using DDR4.

For Haswell-EP you're talking up to 14-cores with the minimum being 6-core. No more quad cores in the Xeon space. Mac Pros use E5 Xeons.

For the macbook pro they do have lower end models without a separate graphics card.

That's very disappointing.

----------

Worth it to me though if they put in the 860m graphics card. I'm on the cMBP 2012 so a rMBP with thunderbolt 2 would be an upgrade to me.

JSYK the only difference between broadwell and haswell is the onboard GPU. Other than that they are identical. I don't normally use the onboard GPU so.

Apple has done it before. They've refreshed a product and then 5 months later came out with a new model. They really don't care what you think about that.

I really hope that if broadwell is going to be delayed until next year, they don't bother with a refresh this time around. A speed bump doesn't seem worth it if it's just going to be replaced in 5 months.

that's too long to wait for a crappy minor spec bump for macbook pro...apple should release that minor bump now not in September October.. remember it did it for the Air in April which was two months before the usual refresh time so this one should come on August latest

Well it could be wrong. That's one great thing about rumors. No one really knows until it's announced.

The only thing i care about Broadwell is the lower power consumption.

new CPU doesn't do much on performance. i7 Haswell is an overkill for what i need (me a photoshop user).

If Broadwell is not coming this year, i would be happy to see new design or price drop on macbook pro line.

Looking through this thread, I didn't realize so many people thought Broadwell was going to get released this year. Back in May, Intel engineers at one of the microprocessor shows even stated it was a 50/50 chance that they would make it this year.

I upgrade every year when a new CPU arrives but I understand that 14nm is a difficult process. A working prototype shown 9 months ago is a long way from a real product with high yields. I would rather them get it right than rush it.

Objectively, time is running out for Broadwell in 2014. While you may think 'this is only July' it doesn't work that way. For a 2014 Broadwell MBP to be available for you to purchase by Christmas, many insteps have to occur. I would think that Intel would have to be in full production by August for Apple to meet a holiday launch.

If Broadwell moves to Q1/2015 we might see a minor CPU bump from Apple for Christmas but it is just as likely that they will not do anything.

I would love to purchase a 2014 Broadwell MBP for Christmas but I'm just as happy to wait until Q1/2015.

-P

That's ok for you to wait it out, but some of us have college in September and can't wait it out as long realistically.

I'm not going to buy 2013 hardware this late without a price drop. The back to school promotion only gives me €70, which is a rip off.

I'll bite if there's a spec bump and price drop like what happened to the air, but such minor things like that should be done between now and August. It's ridiculous to leave it until October or November for such a small upgrade if it's not going to be broadwell.
