Waiting for Broadwell MBP Thread

Expect a MBA 12" debut along with rMBP 13's and 15's between late Sept and early Nov.
My tip? Wait. It's worth it.

How are you getting the "late 2014" date for broadwell chips? That's the date intel releases the chips to consumers. Apple, along with other businesses that require chips in bulk will have access to Broadwell earlier than late 2014.

That's like saying that GameStop gets the games on their release date. They do not; they get them several days before.

Well I'm pretty sure Intel Roadmaps aren't meant for consumers.

What are the chances that we'll see an IGZO display? Have their been any rumours or otherwise that have pointed that apple might go in that direction when they roll out broadwell?

If not IGZO, have we seen any viable alternatives that would have as much effect on battery life?

I'm pretty sure the current rMBPs use IGZO displays.
This is from DisplayMate about the original rMBP:
An IGZO Retina Display? Traditional high PPI displays (with amorphous Silicon) are inefficient with both brightness and power. As a result, the new iPad 3 with a Retina Display needs a 70 percent larger battery than the non-Retina Display iPad 2, but the MacBook Pro with Retina Display has only a 23 percent larger battery with the same 7 hour running time as the non-Retina Display MacBook Pro. How can this be? You may recall that IGZO technology has been making headlines for months, first rumored to be the technology used in the Retina Display for the new iPad 3. IGZO is significantly more efficient than amorphous Silicon. It wasn't ready in time for the new iPad 3, but Sharp announced that production of IGZO LCDs with up to 300 PPI started in March of 2012... Just in time for the MacBook Pro... These facts lead me to speculate that the MacBook Pro is using a Sharp IGZO Retina Display...

A Quantum Dot display would be pretty good for the rMBP as they use 30-50% less power, are 50-100% brighter, and have a 30% increase in visible spectrum when compared to a LCD display.

Back to school is near, I hope we Will se some refresh on the rMBP in a couple of days, maybe tomorrow.

Refresh will not happen.
BW hitting rMBP's Sept-Nov

What are you on about? You seem to be claiming this repeatedly on this forum without any sort of reasoning or substantiation.

Care to explain? I don't doubt that Broadwell will be delayed until early 2015 at the latest, but why are you so certain on the fall?

I'm thinking more like a spec bump and price drop in July and Broadwell in November.

Totally unrelated, but MacRumours got some new Smilies::):eek::mad::rolleyes::cool::p;):D:eek::(:apple:

I'm pretty sure they're not going to drop the price ! If they do, It'll mean that we'll have to wait longer before we see an update of the rMBP

If that is the case, I'll wait until November. If I'm going to pay £1400 I want the most for my money. ;):D

if thats coming out in november, skylake s is q2 2015....it would be very hard to buy with that type of turnaround

i doubt apple will release broadwell in november if they do a spec bump in july ; its only 3-4 months difference --- its too little time to do so . it would make more sense if they spec bump in july and broadwell Feb/March - that go well with there previous releases of 250 days or so

I could be mistaken, but if I remember correctly Apple has never done a refresh once the Back to School promotion began. I think October/November is looking more and more likely for an update.

I really doubt that Apple will release the new rMBP in 2015. Apple generally releases updates when the necessary chips become available from Intel, and from what I've read, it seems like the chips suitable for the rMBP are coming around Q4 2014. As well, I haven't seen any evidence of new Haswell chips for the rMBP that would allow for a spec bump, so I would expect that Apple would attempt to release the new rMBP as soon as possible (around Q4). I'm also going to revise my prediction to a November release with a slight price drop.

Private sources have indicated that the 14nm Broadwell pushback will have trickle-down effects across Intel’s product lines, meaning that launches that were originally supposed to happen in early 2015 will be delayed to later in the year, while late 2015 launches will likely slip into 2016.

who knows...ive heard intel wants to keep schedules as is to not cause too much of a ripple effect

they don't want to fall behind and gave any room to catch up for amd, arm, etc

i hope they release it sooner with first dibs from intel though

No chance of Broadwell rMBP/iMac this year. General availability for Broadwell mobile CPU's is Q1 2015.

A few Y series Broadwell chips are to be available Q4 2014. These are to be used in things like tablets and possibly a new MBA.

I want to believe that, must if it isn't true? If I buy a new 2600€ rMBP now and in September / October another model comes out?

Then you'll probably just feel bad about it (or maybe not - 3 months is a good portion of time). It's not like small updates make any sort of impact on most people's work.

I was on the fence between waiting and buying now, but I went to the Apple store to try the machines out. Everything I did was nearly instantaneous, and the computers were crazy fast, so I felt as though there was no reason for me to wait. This "waiting" stuff is BS imo, and it just makes things annoying. I knew that I had a problem when I waited almost 9 months to buy a new iMac. Don't get yourself in too deep, or you'll have to justify all of the waiting you've done so far by waiting even longer, which could be well into 2015.
