Any speculation on if the 13' base graphics will be updated?

There isn't really any speculation about if the 13" will get updated graphics or not, just about which better graphics it will be. The base graphics for Haswell chips are the HD 4400, which are a little over 60% "better" than the HD 4000 the current rMBP has. And it is likely that the rMBP 13" will get the HD 5000 or Iris 5100, which are even better.

I'm very excited for the update to the 13"! The 13" rMBP is pretty much the perfect laptop for me (I would like a touch screen, but you can't win them all), but I refuse to buy a high end Ivy Bridge machine right now and the HD 4000 is pathetic compared to all then new Intel graphics.

Yeah, the current 13-inch rMBP is not worth full retail price right now. It looks like we are going to see the HD 5100, that and better battery life will be a major selling point for me.

Sure the 15-inch won't see as big of a performance, but for those of us in the market for the 13, it will be.

I was at the apple store talking to someone who works there and I asked him if there were any updates coming to the MBP's anytime soon. He told me to "keep a look out".

I seriously doubt a retail employee is handing out info about upcoming refreshes.

Arguing that the 13" was worth its retail price was tough when it first launched. Its on the thick side to try and get by with a dual core processor and no dGPU, since you can get similarly thin laptops that at least have a quad core CPU if not a dGPU as well. Its screen was then only thing that made it maybe be worth what they were charging. Not to mention that pushing a display of that resolution has got to be tough for the HD 4000. Now, it is absolutely not worth its retail price.

----------

It will at least have a jump from intel HD4000 to the 2x HD5000 or (which I think will happen) is the 2.5x HD5100. And trust me when I say that the move from HD4000 to HD5100 will be big enough alone to wait for the new rMBP if you want to do some light to medium level gaming

The 5100 is the Iris 5100, not the HD 5100, the HD branding stops with 5000 and the switch from HD to Iris naming denotes the change from the GT2 design to the GT3.

So are you saying that about the new 13-inch rMBP, too? I don't need a dGPU or quad-core. But I do really want the better iGPU that will be in the new model. Some think that the 13-inch isn't a Pro because it lacks a dGPU and a quad-core CPU, but it's a perfectly acceptable model.

I for one can't wait for a 13-inch rMBP with Haswell, 5100 iGPU, and better battery life.

I am waiting for the new rMBP too and saw the link to B&H where a MBP with haswell processor is listed. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?atclk=Processor+Type_Intel+Core+i7+Haswell&ci=18818&N=4110474292+4291615352+4254301290+4100277619+4100277621+4034387733

I asked them if this is a mistake (because at the moment Apple does not sell any MBP with haswell..) and they told me that it is NOT a mistake. They confirmed that this is a MBP with haswell processor. Furthermore I asked for the availabilty (on the website 7-14 days) and they said 7-14 days are the ETA that Apple has given!

I do not know if this are reliable information but I am optimistic. ;)

I seriously doubt they have any information what so ever of the upcoming release.
Huge electronic retailers in Europe like Media Markt have stated before that they have absolutely no clue what so ever when a new model is coming. Because of the secrecy Apple has around all their products.
Only when the actual product is released they can see it in their systems.

The fact that even Apple store employees dont get word before launches more then what they can figure out them self.
Should make one understand that the situation is even worse for third party retailers.

Also the fact that it has the same model number as the old retina. With only 1 number that is different makes it almost certain that it is just this: http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/981939-REG/apple_z0py_me6644_15_4_macbook_pro_notebook.html
But with a different cpu and storage.

Apple sure is working hard at getting OS X 10.8.5 Beta (Build 12F23) up and going! I wonder why the strong emphasis on this when Mavericks is right around the corner? Hmmmm my own speculation, but I wonder if this is the build that will be released with the refreshed rMBPs....

Or to fix the issues the Air have had since release?
Or the fact that a lot of upgrades can be done now in Lion and just be added to Mavricks later. So working on them for Mavricks or lion dont do much difference except that pushing out a update takes some work. And they probably have different teams working on Mavricks and updates.

But they probably had this update planned anyway and felt that the issues it fixes couldn't wait until Mavricks is released.

Does it? Does it really?

Yes... Yes it does! :)

Yes, that could be true. They sure are getting iOS 7, Mavericks builds out pretty fast!

I am not saying it about the refresh. I think Haswell graphics are strong enough (especially if you look at opencl and opengl benchmarks, not just gaming benchmarks) that a machine like the 13" and maybe even 15" rMBP do not need a dGPU. The lack of quad core and decent graphics made the current MBP feel like it didn't deserve the pro name, I think Haswell adresses this. We will have graphics good enough that I won't miss the dGPU and battery life long enough that I'll be more than willing to give up quad core for it.

I am hoping it comes out soon as my 2012 rMBP was stolen in a B&E.
(Luckily I was able to borrow a old macbook as I am just writing for a few weeks before my next project involving high end software like Maya, Nuke and AE come into play.)

If they did lose the dedicated graphics I would be forced to buy the current model, I can't imagine they would. If people are really that opposed to getting one with dedicated graphics, just buy a 13" air. smaller lighter and better battery life anyway.

I am also expecting it to come out a month or so before Mavericks, just like the 1st rMBP came out a month or so before Mountain Lion. That way you aren't forced into a new OS where lots of programs are not going to work for a while.

That seems to be the way they do these things so people don't end up buying a 3k machine that can't run any of their high end software and is a doorstop until the 3rd party software is brought up to snuff to work with Mavericks.

Just my 2 cents and what I saw with the last rMBP.

it looks like B&H lowered their prices on the current generation as well. Site says the offer is good through July 31st...

that's a good sign!

All the discounts maybe?

No. As someone who has purchased over a dozen MBPs from Amazon over the past several years, I can attest to the fact that they have done discounts like this for years and years. They often wait a little bit after the new introduction these days (although back in the mid 2000s, the discounts were fantastic even at launch). But these days, discounts mean nothing more than that they've had the product for a while and are trying to incentivize buyers to purchase from them versus another reseller. There is absolutely no other inherent signal about when new models will arrive.

This, too, is not a sign. Why do people insist on trying to read things into stuff? Wishful thinking is heavy on the wishing and light on the thinking.

Bestbuy is also running a sale. Remains to be seen if this is shedding stock or all these retailers are just matching prices with each other.

I'm curious to see the performance delta between the Iris Pro 5200 and the Iris 5100 (essentially the difference in GPU performance between the next gen 15" and 13" rMBPs).

Anyone have an idea on what to expect?
