Wow wasn't expecting an iMac release. Aargh, why couldn't they just release the rMBP today too then?

I guess it does look like the rMBP will get an event release. I don't think it will be touch id though. Maybe an event worthy announcement to convince everyone that they don't need the dGPU? :(

Well on a desktop you don't really have battery concerns :D
Let's hope this wait is for the best

The fact that they put Iris Pro on a desktop in the first place (and only the base model) suggests that the main factor is price, not power… It looks more likely now that there'll be (at least) a base model rMBP with Iris Pro.

last year GT650M was on the high end 21.5" iMAC and in MBP 15"
now on the high end we have a 750M with 1gVram so there are 99% that we will have a 15" rMBP with dGPU probably 750M/760M

Yup I guess that's also an issue
As for an option for dGPU I called it in August :-°

ok but if mbp does not worth a mention at an apple event, when do you think the silent update you are assuming will happen?
As I've written before, Apple will release the Haswell MBPs when they have produced enough to keep up with demand following launch. The Haswell iMacs which were silently released today have a similar level of wow/yawn factor to what we're expecting from the Haswell MBPs, so I think that points to a similar release whenever they will be ready. The Haswell MBPs were not released today for the obvious reason that Apple do not yet have enough of them ready to ship.

The lack of Thunderbolt 2 support on the Haswell iMacs probably indicates that the Haswell MBPs are unlikely to support Thunderbolt 2. We'll see.

Now that a lot of the MacBook Air's competitors are getting "retina" displays, maybe Apple will at least offer a retina display as an option soon?
The obvious timing for the Retina MBA (since it didn't happen with Haswell) would be with the Broadwell update.

Only one mac line is still outdated and guess which one?
The MBP, Mac mini, and Mac Pro are still due to be released soon, probably not later than early November.

Second, is there some chance we get this update (rMBP) next tuesday?
Maybe about 20 to 25%. I very much hope so because, if so, I will get a Haswell rMBP. If not, then I will have to buy an Ivy Bridge rMBP (before I leave the States).

This was a surprise!!! Goes to show, dont always have to see a leak to know something new is coming or an update I should say. I wonder why they updated the iMacs and not the macbook pro line??? They have to be working on something big with the rMBPs, this is crazy:confused:

Well, we don't actually know if Apple will release it in October, because if Apple doesn't have the enough stocks due to some manufacturing problem, as mcarling has repeatedly meantioned, Apple will delay the launch of the rmbp.

If there's anyone who thinks they won't be released in October, they have to be kidding themselves.

Wow, didn't expect to see new iMacs today. Well, one less thing to show off at the event.

i thought Iris PRo is only for quad core i7
seems that intel put Iris Pro for desktop CPU i5 as well

Will be very interesting to see the base iMac benchmarked, specifically the performance of the Iris Pro.

Everyone needs to calm their expectations. The fact they didn't release Macbook Pros today doesn't mean they're working on something bigger. They could well be simply staggering their releases and the rMBP will come out with a similar improvement (Haswell, faster SSD, etc).

That's funny…

Since May I have seen:

If there's anyone who thinks they won't be released in June, they have to be kidding themselves.

If there's anyone who thinks they won't be released in July, they have to be kidding themselves.

If there's anyone who thinks they won't be released in August, they have to be kidding themselves.

If there's anyone who thinks they won't be released in September, they have to be kidding themselves.

So the smaller iMac gets Iris Pro while the bigger one gets a dGPU. Does this mean that Apple still wasn't satisfied with Iris Pro's performance on the 15" and is holding off on getting rid of the dGPU there?

There were people who said that? There were all very good reasons for the rMBP to not be released in the months before. But we all know the rMBP is coming in October, despite a select few on here thinking it isn't ready.

You can also get a dGPU in the "small" iMac.

http://www.apple.com/imac/performance/

Barely mentions the Iris Pro, with lots of emphasis on the improved Nvidia graphics. I suppose they could push the power-savings advantage for the rMBP, but after reading that I'd be surprised if they completely drop the dGPU. If Apple really believed in the Iris Pro the 2.9 Ghz iMac would've had it as well, I think.

This was a surprise!!!
I don't understand how anyone could possibly be surprised by the Haswell iMac release. We knew the iMac would get a Haswell update.

Yes, as I've written several times already.

I wonder why they updated the iMacs and not the macbook pro line???
Obviously because Apple had enough new Haswell iMacs produced and they didn't yet have enough new Haswell MBPs produced.

Your conclusion does not follow from your premises. There is nothing at all crazy here.
