This thread seems to be about evenly balanced between plausible analysis on the one hand and superstition (including numerology) on the other hand.

The idea that Apple would have a new Mac model ready to ship and then would delay release to be either nearer to or farther from the release of Mavericks or an iOS product seems to be without any basis in history, logic, or reason.

You really think Apple would release the rMBP today? 4 days after the iphone 5s and 5c? If it were ready to ship now perhaps they would have shown it at the iphone event.

History would suggest that Apple haven't silently released a major product change at the same time as another major 'event' product.

BUT, will the new rMPB be just a spec bump or a major revision???

The rMPBs aren't ready. How can I be certain? I can't, but we haven't seen any leaks... nothing apart from some benchmark from months ago. Every apple product release is usually preceded by some hardware leak in the week leading up to its release.

I'd also put money on the new rMBPs shipping with Mavericks meaning they aren't coming until end of Oct/early Nov at the earliest.

It'd be a pain in the arrse to get it with ML and then a few weeks later have to upgrade the OS.

Of course, this is all pure speculation on my part. As Manuel says, "I know nothing".

I'm actually thinking about buying a Surface 2 for a secondary computer, and then use my upgraded iMac when I'm home.

If you're going to get a Surface, definitely get the Pro (1st or 2nd gen, your choice). I currently have a Surface Pro as my compliment device, but I got the Surface RT at first and returned it. I needed proper Windows applications and RT wasn't cutting it for me.

Yes, if that's when the Haswell rMBP was ready to ship.

If it were ready to ship now perhaps they would have shown it at the iphone event.
Maybe, maybe not. For marketing reasons, Apple might want to focus the event strictly on the iPhones and iOS 7. Did Apple mention Apple TV software release 6.0 at the event? Not that I recall.

that's right. The Oct gig may be other things. Apple could quietly upgrade the MacBooks, like they did with the Airs. No sense waiting around.

Then again I haven't aclue what i'm talking about :)

Apple TV software update comparable to the new rMBP? That's just taking it too far!

CTO rMBP's are back to shipping in 1-3 days (from 3-5 days), so it's going up and down. Don't think we can use that as an indicator.

Yeah I highly doubt Apple is going to release it today. Might as well wait until October when Mavericks will be released. This way, they can boost the sale of the laptop by not silently announcing it.

I'm just going to wait until October. if they still don't release it, I'm going to just buy the refurbished rMBP and kick myself for not buying it in June.

 Let's review your logic with an example.

Let's say I predicted the Patriots would start the season 3-0. Turns out I was correct. I then predict that the world will end on October 15. Is that 100% too.

People make guesses (sometimes educated, sometimes not) all the time, so by definition, some of them are simply going to be right. Absent a consistent track record of accuracy, they're nothing more than that. And even as they say in the stock market, past performance is not a guarantee of future returns. Even if you do think this source is somewhat reliable, attaching a "100% for sure" part to the end is utterly and completely laughable.

As an aside, I especially love that your comment comes on the heels of your linking the LA Times article, which states, and I quote:

----------

No chance you'll see preorders on this, other than if you consider it a "preorder" if it's shipping in 5-7 or 7-10 days. (But that's very, very unlikely at this point, given that there's no "usual" Apple event like WWDC dictating the release schedule and thus causing the tail to wag the dog, so they will obviously only announce models when they're actually ready to go.)

It just make the guy inside Apple just not a liar and telling the true. So i dont think this guy will tell the truth about iphone event and lie after for the ipad/mac event.Get real

----------

So 15 October the event will start probably from 10 a.m

First off, whatever it was that you typed there—that wasn't English. Second, did you even read a word of what I wrote? Good grief.

yeah i read, if in the last 1-2 years you not lived under a rock you would know that apple secrets are gone and all the rumors will eventually come true because there are inside man that post on NYT or other blog, magazines etc about what apple is doing. So all the rumors has 1-2 source from apple inside and the same source claimed 15 October the next apple event. Is your fault that you don't trust somebody that has strong connection with apple board.

It is time to say "thank you" to my old good MBP early 2011 17`.
I hope Apple will announce the new MBP with Retina and 17` display.
It will be the best thing on the planet

The Apple store is still up at almost 6:00 AM EST. Nothing is going to happen today. We've waited over three months since WWDC. What's another three weeks or so?

no question about...Tue 15 October is the date

I'm just hoping this thread makes it to 400 before then. I get a real kick out of seeing grow every day :)

Any bets on something new? Like fingerprint scanner? Edge to edge display? Thinner?

Apple TV software update comparable to the new rMBP? That's just taking it too far!

iTunes revenue has already caught up with Mac revenue. On one hand, the Apple TV part of iTunes revenue may be a smaller part of iTunes revenue than the MBP part of Mac revenue. On the other hand, iTunes revenue is a growing part of Apple's strategic future and Apple TV may be on its way to becoming a major pillar at Apple, like the iPhone or iPad. Macs seem to be slowly going the way of the iPod. When was the last time a new iPod was introduced at an Apple event? (Note that I'm not saying that Macs are yet as insignificant to Apple as iPods, but they seem headed toward insignificance.) On top of all this, the Haswell MBP upgrade looks to be a yawn. What can they hype at an event other than 802.11ac, PCIe SSD, longer battery life, and maybe Thunderbolt 2 (of which the journalists will only understand "longer battery life" and "faster at some things")? Big yawn compared to last year's introduction of the stunningly beautiful rMBP. Also a big yawn compared to the new features in Apple TV software 6.0.

If any of the Haswell Macs might possibly warrant introduction at an event, it would be the Mac mini -- if it will be completely redesigned to fit the form factor of the new Airport Extreme / Time Capsule. The MBA was a yawn (and silently upgraded) and the iMac and MBP look to be similar yawns. I don't see how the Haswell MBP could be more exciting than the Haswell MBA was i.e. not exciting enough to mention at an Apple event.

ok but if mbp does not worth a mention at an apple event, when do you think the silent update you are assuming will happen?

By the way, can we count how many people here are 100% sure to buy the new mbp the day it comes out (at least if in october)?
Me, 13" base model.
