If Apple puts a dGPU in the 15" and doesn't run Iris Pro, I think the only way to improve it would be to include 2GB GDDR5. Since the 650M is already overclocked (like the 7X0 series), it would be the only way to improve performance over current hardware.

I personally wish the 13-inch would have a 1440x900 resolution at it's Best for Retina setting. Could that happen if the 15-inch got a resolution bump?

Me too. I can't really consider the 13" with the 1280x800 equivalent. I love the 1440x900 on my 13" air, the 15" would be even better with a 1680 x 1050 equivalent screen.

The rMBP doesn't need 4K resolution. It is perfect the way it is. Give us 802.11ac wifi and PCI-E SSDs with some battery life savings - with a dGPU as well!

We need 4K display the more the better, so we could plug it into a 4k tv and it won't need to down Scale it or something

Jesus!

rMBP has the highest resolution in the market and you want more?

Let's hope for a quick update and a slight price cut instead.

And, as for the 13", I'm happy with 1200x800. Letters are too small with the MBA resolution.

What we need is an option for a higher resolution display, so basically a Retina Screen for 1440x900 and 1680x1050. I know you can select a "higher" resolution on the old rMBP, but a native screen with 1680x1050 looks better.

or -dGPU with lower price point (-$150 at least)

btw. for the gamers: with the intel extreme utility you can tweak your CPU under windows to get 10-25% more gaming performance just by reducing the CPU-Multiplier and voltages, disable turbo etc. so that it should be on 650M level (no overclocking)

And I'm sure Apple will do that under MacOS as well with there own drivers.

iMac is 16:9 there is nothing in the rulebook saying the 15" Retina MacBook Pro couldn't drop 16:10 and go 16:9.

Guess we'll find out next month :)
If they go 16:9, I'll buy the old generation or a windows computer instead.

totally agree! i think 4k will not add something really looked for people who are waitiing

besides the fact that yoy dont need a higher resolution than a rMBP one

haswell rMBP will arrive when this thread comes to 500 page

i bet!

I've checked this side by side. I found exactly the opposite. My 2010 15" MBP has 1680x1050. I took it into an Apple Store and set it next to a 15" rMBP which I then configured to the equivalent effective resolution i.e. so that both machines displayed everything at the same size. The rMBP looked much, much better than my native 1680x1050 screen.

I did the same experiment with a 13" rMBP against my 2011 MBA with 1440x900. Again, the rMBP configured to display 1440x900 looked much, much better than my native 1440x900 resolution.

Yes, but a true Retina display with 1680x1050 (=3360x2100) looks better than a Retina display with 1440x900 (=2880x1800) interpolated to view 1680x1050.

Have you tested that? I doubt most people could see a difference. Given the current cost of 13" and 15" Retina displays, I would not want Apple to make that switch anytime soon. It would be better to continue production of the current already awesome Retina displays and drive the costs down.

As someone who has never been around when Apple launch new products, how much are these new machines likely to cost? How has it been in the past? Will they replace the prices of the current machines?

I ask because i'm in a predicament having just recieved a replacement (2.4ghz, 8gb, 15" retina) for my mid 2010 17" MBP (very nice of Apple), but I don't know whether I should keep it sealed and ask to replace it with the new one when they are released. Saying that however I would only do that if it'll be the same price - essentially £1799.99 - I didn't have to pay anything because this was the same price as my 2010 machine and it was a direct swap, I didn't even get any paperwork in the store it was literally 'take my old one, and here's my new one', which I thought was a little odd. Then again, I don't even know if the 14 day replacement/refund policy applies to me as it was a replacement anyway, and if Apple don't release them within 14 days (I picked it up yesterday so i'm assuming that's day 1?) then this whole debate is for nothing anyway (in a way i'm hoping they don't release them so I can put my mind at rest and just be happy with this machine).

Thoughts?

It will be same price as the current ones. Maybe $100 less.

I disagree. The working area is too small. It needs to have an effective working area of at-least 1680x1050 minimum and I'd prefer 1920x1200. Other manufacturers have been shipping 1080p panels in their 15" notebooks for literally 4-5 years. Apple whilst shipping a 2880x1800 panel is only giving us an effective working area of 1440x900 which is the correct resolution for a 13" notebook in my opinion.

To say the current setup is perfect is plainly ridiculous, it can always be improved I'd say the current setup is good not perfect and if it was 4K then it'd be great but still not perfection, there is always more ways to improve the notebook and perfect would convey it's already topped out.

Of course, the current Retina displays are not perfect and could be improved. I'm sure that someday they will be improved. However, the benefit of improving them now is not worth the cost.

Me too. I can't really consider the 13" with the 1280x800 equivalent. I love the 1440x900 on my 13" air, the 15" would be even better with a 1680 x 1050 equivalent screen.

Not if you are my age. I am happy with the resolution. My current highres 15" is a little bit hard for me too read sometimes.

The more resolution you have the more you can take profit of it. Anyway, I´d rather having more options of configuration this time. I´d like to get a i7 4core for the 13inch and 16GB RAM... I don´t mind about having 1gb RAM actually, with Wifi AC and your external HDD you don´t really need more than 256 (most of the cases)
