There is one reason for Apple to ship new notebooks with 10.9.

Since 10.9 is supposed to get all around better battery life, shipping with 10.9 would let them claim the longer battery life numbers at launch, rather than just a silent update to the tech specs page after 10.9 is released.

I don't know if that's a reason that would really cause them to hold back the hardware update, but if they could wait an extra week and claim 10 hours battery at launch instead of 9 then it might be worth it.

That seems ideal. Makes sense because nobody wants to buy a computer and a week later have to upgrade to the new OS.

No, too bad iFixit never got to trying out a 7mm or 5mm super-slim drive in that space. I wonder why Apple would leave that space there without some sort of purpose.

they do fit, 7mm was tried by a friend of mine, she said that it fits, but they don't have a cable, nor anyone is going to produce one

6 pages worth of posts for a Sunday! But October hasn't even started...

I predict that this thread will hit 10K, especially when the rumors pop-up, and there is actually something to talk about. :p

Good for you!

edit: I'm talking about the general populous; not us Apple nerds.

Except that the general populous' adoption rate of OS updates is quite high. Haven't you seen the charts that macrumors posts every time there's an update?

We had over 100 posts today. At this rate we will hit 10k in a week

All bets are off if Apple release the Haswell MBPs this Tuesday. In that case, we might hit 10,000 posts on Tuesday or Wednesday.

i bet that I will give birth if apple releases on tuesday. not believing it

So if they announce the new rMBP upgrades and say "available today" like they have for all rMBP's since day one, my local Apple store would have it in stock (located in Montreal, Quebec)? And they get it that morning or later that day? I'm thinking of missing last period of school to get my hands on one quickly.

You can always buy online and pick up in store. You won't have to miss class.

What?! No! I just want to see Mr MM lose a bet. Cmon man.

:D

I always lose bets! thus I'm already thinking of the name, I think Sunshine Ray Tibarastikaya sounds lovely doesn't it? imagine the boy answering attendance, I will go to the first week in class for each year just to see the teacher

Part of me wants a silent refresh, so I can get it asap. But the other side of me thinks if the iMac had a silent update and the rMBP gets some event time then we could see some more significant changes such as the rumoured 'slimmer' 13" form factor or some other features/refinements that make it even more of a buy?

Or just nothing to March 2014 ...

I prefere a silent refresh this tuesday!

If the 13" rMBP gets the rumored reduced thickness, I may just sell my 2011 MBA and get the rMBP. However, I guess it's not impossible that we will be seeing a redesigned MBA next spring (june?), and if that particular model would feature a retina display, or at least a much improved display and new case design, I would seriously regret having purchased an rMBP.

Decisions, decisions..

We're talking 1mm difference. The diameter of a pin-head... Tat's the current difference between the 15" and 13". It is an unnoticeable difference...

At this point I hope there is not a silent release this Tuesday. The wait cannot be much longer. I know, famous last words

But the longer it goes into October the more chance the Haswell rMBP's have Mavericks from day one and TB2.

IMO there won't be a silent release tomorrow. The iMac is different. It did not need Haswell. It was a typical spec/processor yearly bump. The rMBP's need the better graphics. And they need the better battery life of Haswell + Mavericks.
