I'm not hoping for a silent release tomorrow.
I rather have a keynote announcement.
Especially since i've waited so long now that i want more changes then the SSD,WiFi and Haswell upgrades.
I want more :), and i dont think we will have more then that if we only get a silent release.
How ever what i do hope for is Mavericks going gold, and invites to a keynote being sent out.
How ever i have a feeling the keynote will be between the 20th-30th Oct, so i do expect the keynote invites wont be out for about 2 weeks.

Mavericks going gold would be really good news tho.

And that is why how the Carriers operate encourages people to upgrade every two years if you're not going to use a cheaper/prepaid plan. (Which were and still are rather scarce in many parts of the country.)

If you're not upgrading and still pay the same amount, you're subsidizing a phone for someone else.

Bill, all of that is starting to make sense and it's becoming crystal clear, except one thing that doesn't fit what you're saying. That $89 that turns into $94 after taxes that I'm paying is what I was paying way back when there was no subsidizing yet. I suppose that plan prices would have gone down by now if the didn't start subsidizing. But that explanation seems contrived when I consider that my monthly bill is exactly the same as it was.

Would be kinda bittersweet if it was a silent update tomorrow, putting alot of the the new speculations into the bin :p

I'm pissed because the update takes so long. I'm waiting since May, and following this thread since then.

But if tomorrow brings a silent update, I will be even more pissed.
If they keep us waiting so long, the least they can do is give us an event-worthy update.

But I don't worry. I have faith.
There will be no silent update. We will get a great upgrade, and Mavericks preinstalled. And a secret killer feature.

Last year some macs were updated during the Oct event. Apple spent about 5 mins telling us that they upgraded some cpu's.

So just because you get an event mention does not mean you will get an amazing update.

Exactly which is precisely the reason why I'm hoping they just appear tomorrow, but I doubt it.

All MacBook Pro models still show "Available to Ship: Within 24 hours" as of 9 a.m. on Sept. 30.

That's a bad sign for those expecting a refresh tomorrow, is it not? Don't they usually slow the expected delivery dates shortly before a launch?

(Not a rhetorical question -- I really don't know.)

iMac's didn't slip delivery time prior to their update.

But CTO rMBP's showed 1-3 days some weeks ago, and 1,5 week ago it showed 3-5 days, and now shows 4-6 days. So it's definitely going low on their stocks, so they're only stockpiling base-models.

not only MBP have problem, dell m3800 also

"Just talked to a Dell rep about release date :

"Sorry but right now we still haven't got the motherboard and chipset orders from Intel so we can offer this model line, in fact all 4th gen models we currently carry are offered as a fixed build due to shortage of parts.
latest word from Intel is they will fulfill all backlog orders by the 1st or 2nd week of October, this is actually not just us here at Dell but other manufacturers as well."

so looks like about a month. "

Hey guys, I have been waiting a very long time for the updated rMBP 15 with has well. However I hear all this talk of broadwell, it sounds very appealing to me because I could get a more portable 13in instead of the 15. The Only reason I'm getting the 15 in because of the leap in power between the two at the moment. I was just curious if I were to buy the new haswell base rMBP 15 when it releases. How much money lose can I expect to sell it a year later to pick up a powerful broadwell? I also get a student discount. Thanks for your help.

As it stands, something like Dropbox can potentially blow your data cap with a sync.

Same goes for tethering... Dropbox sync can be paused.
Apple only needs to add a simple API, which the apps could use.

Both iPads and iPhones have 3G/LTE. It can't be that difficult to find some space for a SIM card holder, UTMS chip and some antennas in the much larger body of the MPBs.

@ohbrillance, @greenglue:
You ask "why?"
I ask "why not?".

It's a bit off-topic to the thread, but here are a few pointers against a SIM tray in Macbook Pros seeming you asked.
  • iPhone & iPad (optional) have a SIM tray - do you really want to get a third SIM?
  • Apple introduced Personal Hotspot for this very reason
  • WiFi is available practically everywhere you take your laptop
  • Product differentiation, it is the iPad's market share

Exactly. If you're somewhere without wifi then either hotspot if you can or if it occurs often consider getting a device that does have cellular. I doubt Apple is going to want to cut into the iPad market. Not to mention are there any other laptops on the market that have SIM cards? The windows 8 convertibles may be an exception, but I'm not sure.

A few years back my dad was given an air card by his company for when he was traveling and didn't have internet access. Cellular providers have these handy little things that you can plug in and get a cell signal. I don't see a market for higher priced laptops with SIM cards. The laptop will probably die before then.

There might be some good reasons to wait for Broadwell, but this isn't one. The performance difference between the 13" and 15" Broadwell MBPs will be similar to the performance difference between the 13" and 15" Haswell MBPs and that between the 13" and 15" Ivy Bridge MBPs.

Quite possibly the real reason why a MacBook 3G is yet to come.

BTT: Yeah, I'm waiting too. My mid-2009 MBP (replacement main board, 3rd replacement battery, 2nd replacement SATA cable, unwilling USB ports) is close to give up the ghost.

My mid-2009 15" MBP took a nasty 5' fall onto the hardwood floor last year right after the warranty expired. I was shocked that there wasn't any visible damage, and it was even still running whatever game I was playing at the time. A few months later however, the screen started delaminating about an inch above the hinge point, making a second pivot point and further separating the glass/screen/aluminum. It turns out the frame around the screen snapped during the fall and it slowly fell apart from there. I've super glued it a number of times but it's pretty far gone, every week it makes another spider crack in the front glass.

Considering the screen is on its death bed, the CD drive hasn't worked in years (I never used it often, or really at all- enough to fix it), the battery lasts for an hour and has been angrily asking for service I think it's time to take it out back... After all that, it was a free replacement for my mid-2006 15" MBP which went in for service more times than I can count.

My 750GB hard drive is nearly full too, so what better excuse to get a new machine? I haven't purchased a new computer since 2006, so it's more than time. Thank god for Applecare. With all that being said, I'm joined the Haswell bandwagon wait-party you have going on here. I'm not too picky on specs, but I'm looking at the top tier, 16 GB memory, 768GB SSD 15".

i'd be shocked if this is released before mavericks comes out

Well they just did that with the iMac, although on the iMac they just bumped the processor to a Haswell and added PCIe. Same thing should be on the rMBP so we can expect a silent update either tomorrow or next Tuesday since nothing huge is being changed in it. Also, maybe 1mm thinner.

They also upgraded the Nvidia GPUs to 700 series..
