Quite possibly the real reason why a MacBook 3G is yet to come.

BTT: Yeah, I'm waiting too. My mid-2009 MBP (replacement main board, 3rd replacement battery, 2nd replacement SATA cable, unwilling USB ports) is close to give up the ghost.

Sounds familiar! My mid-2009 needs probably it's sixth SATA cable, is on it's third hard drive, needs a new battery, and I'm convinced that the issues with the SATA cable are on the logic board connector. They've been doing free repairs for me even after my AppleCare expired, but I'm wondering if it's worth it to keep repairing it. I'm definitely getting a replacement after the refresh, but I wanted to hang onto this one since it has a 500gb hard drive. Boyfriend thinks I should try for a free replacement with a 2012 cMBP, but somehow I doubt they'd do that.

Yup, all signs point to incremental upgrades across the board. Not expecting any red carpets or fireworks for this one.

Even though it sounds disconcerting, if it's not updated silently on Tuesday, I'm expecting a update similar to the cMBP at WWDC 2012.

For those who didn't see that, it was a ~1 minute announcement, stating spec bumps (Ivy bridge processor, 720p camera, etc.)

That is, unless they are actually dong something crazy again this year, like IGZO would be considered - but it's unlikely

Boy, I just can't wrap my head around this assessment. Gone are the days when stock was valued at $700+ per share. I really think it's a different dynamic at play here and I hope Apple spins these updates like nothing we've ever seen before - no matter how minor they seem to be. Up till now, Apple has treated the OSX and MBP product platforms as separate entities. I think it's about time they keep them in sync so that each can each play on the others strengths. (Like the recent MBA Haswell presentation).

I agree completely. Although I refuse to use their stock price as an indicator of either innovation or intention during any length of time. I think that people are using the fact that there are "no new options" from the manufacturers as an excuse for apple to release seemingly minor spec bumps in their products. Maybe I'm more progressive, but I would take the opportunity given, to work and implement innovations (thunderbolt 2, external dGPU, whatever else they're planning) according to their master plan - during these spec bumped years so that you can have a solid product every year and not just a redesign every 3 and then spec bumps until the next redesign. Maybe I'm out of touch, but the disappointment is real

Same here. Here's a question for you Apple-watchers...

If Apple does indeed do a spec bump tomorrow, what time would you expect it to happen, if the past is any indication?

I think the Haswell iMacs were announced early morning eastern time. 8am? Not sure if thats just when it was reported though.

Trying to read through all of this but it's a lot!

Is everyone speculating tomorrow (Tuesday) for silent release just because it's October 1 (and some wishful thinking) or have there been substantiated rumors to that effect?

I'm on the fence about getting a 13" MBA or a 13" rMBP. If the Air had the retina screen, it'd be a no-brainer.

Am I correct that last week apple store was not down (or it was for just few minutes)?
I guess the update must be announced before 09:00 AM in NY or, at most, 09:00AM in Cupertino.

Why would apple release it just one week after the iMac though? They could have released it last week but didn't. That means it's not quite ready yet.

Agreed. It's probably wishful thinking. I'm leaning heavily toward October 8th. That means a new product (or products) shown every two weeks.

Seems to me if Apple wants to do another silent update to get products out of the way before the next event it would be the Mac minis.

The MacBook Pros are Apple's most important computer line. IMO this wait means something. Apple is going to announce it at the October event at the earliest. They are less likely to slide this update under the door after such a long wait. But this is just my 2¢ ;)

We don't know that Apple could have released the Haswell MBP last week. The fact that Apple didn't release it last week indicates that Apple didn't have enough of them manufactured yet to be able to release them. One more week of production could make all the difference.

That means it wasn't ready last week. That's really not much indication for anything else. Who knows if it's ready now, or in 2 weeks, or 2 months?

With no rumors it's a crapshoot, but I'd place the odds at just below 50% for tomorrow. I really hope it's tomorrow though so I can get this over with.

Im actually starting to think that there are no more releases before the keynote. On the keynote they might release Mavericks and bundle it with a new version of the mac mini.

Maybe the new rMPB has that cool screen tech we've been hearing about and this pushes the release back to may - aug next year. It could happen ;)

I honestly feel that if the update was just Haswell, PCIe SSD, 802.11ac networking (like the MacBook Air) and graphics (like the iMac) that they would have released it by now. The 13" MacBook Pro is the most popular Mac according to Phil Schiller when he unveiled the Retina 13" and I just don't think they would have not released it before the back to school season unless there was a technical reason.

I don't think we'll need to wait in to the new year though.
