Hey all,

I'm getting myself a MacBook Pro 15". How are you guys charging such a large purchase on your cards? I am having trouble buying my MB because the limit. I even called my bank and they said they couldn't raise it. I split it in two card and still having trouble. Ugh. Any tips on how to purchase such a big price item from Apple? Thanks!

After lurking here since summer, finally purchased the new 15inch rMBP w/ the dGPU. Can't wait for it to get to my door!

While nothing Apple announced today was particularly innovative or game-changing, I still felt very satisfied. For a company that so many see as crumbling and losing their edge, I still saw mystique, swagger, and the desire to once again reign supreme. I was overwhelmingly focused on the rumored rMBP release but what impressed me the most by far was Mavericks being free, especially for much older machines. It was a nice acknowledgement of thanks by Apple to many of their older and most loyal customers (the non-iOS generation).

Not wanting to sound facetious, but... save up?

Would the base 15 be better for casual gaming?

I wanna try out bioshock infinite for the mac but will not be a hardcore gamer who games all the time. I just wanna play a couple of games on my mac just because I wanna see how they are on the laptop but console gaming is really my thing.

I already have a windows computer so I will not be using bootcamp at all.

So based on all of this which is a better computer for me. The 15 base or the high end 15 with the dgpu? And if I do get the base model should I get 16 gb of ram or is 8 good enough for the next 3-4 years?

That's my question too, only I'm thinking of going with the 13 inch. I am mostly a console gamer but I'd like to download a couple games from the App Store but want to make sure the 13 inch can handle it. Bioshock infinite was specifically one I was curious about

Just pulled the trigger! :D

Farewell my friends - It's been a joy waiting with all of you. My MacBook Pro will be delivered anytime today. I wish you all success in all your further endeavors and apple purchases. Hopefully, I'll many of you again in the 'Waiting for 2017 intel xxxwel MBP Mega Thread'

The HD 5100 is identical to the HD 5000. I expect a few more megahertz but nothing more.

Correct. And the 5200 is more or less the same as both the 5000 and 5100 minus the cache. The only difference between the 5000 and 5100 is that the later has a power wattage of 28, while the former of 15. That's a big difference though, and it shows in performance output

It might sound stupid, but I can tell that it does feel lighter. Thinner i wouldnt be able to say. But the balance of the new 13" is definitely improved.
Am I one of the first one in the world to have it?
I mean, even in the apple store this morning they didnt have time to display it.
It's at my feet now. Whole afternoon of work at the office before i can play with it !

What?! I don't think you understood what I mean. I want to buy it right now and have the money, BUT since there is a limit on ATM card from my bank I cannot charge more than that limit. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to get around that since my bank doesn't want to make my limit bigger. I guess it's a safety thing.

Can't you pay with two credit cards (if you have a second one)?

Otherwise, try calling the online Apple Store, or chat with them. I'm sure there has been a possibility to make a wire transfer before!

But seriously; if your bank has a limit, you can't disable, and have not chosen to get, I would change bank immediately!

It's also 0.11 lb lighter :D

Gotcha - so as it's Iris, it has to be the 5100? (Was worried it might only be the 5000 like in the Haswell airs...)

Iris IS HD5100 (slash GT3) :)

HD5000 (in the Air) is just HD5000.

Iris Pro is HD5200 (slash GT3e)

How much faster is the current Iris compared to rMBP13?

Bought mine a month ago and thinking is it worth the change. Mine is used for Word, Safari, Lightroom :)

Call your bank and ask again to higher the limit. If they still give you the crap, tell them you're changing bank (which will get things moving). It's total BS that they claim that they can't raise the limit. Besides, it's your money.

Apple says: up to 90% faster then previous rMBP 13" (with HD4000)

I'd change it. The new 13" is really nice compared to the previous one. More then the new 15"/old 15".

After staying up far too late trying to work out if the 2.6 i5 was good enough for the 13", I ended up going for the i7 - and then thought, what they heck, let's have 16Gb RAM as well.

So that's one 13" i7 16gb for me and the base 15" for the wife.

Hopefully should last a few years (my last MBP is 7 years old, but tbh should have changed it 2-3 years ago!). A bit of casual FSX should be possible too, can always build an external GPU if needed (doubt it).

:)

Does FSX stand for Flight Simulator X?
The only game I play is FSX and I am worrying if the Iris 5100 in the 13" models can handle it...

So how are people liking their new tech? It seems most people are satisfied with the update, but we need the people who actually have it in their hands to talk about it. Send out the GeekBench scores, so we can have a glimpse of what we can expect.

And the iPad Air:D. I can't believe I never thought they would name it that, it seems so obvious now. If they called the New iPad again, I wouldn't have held it against them.

Thats true, maybe the Air in common with Notebook and Ipad now will lead
accordingly with the 12 inches rumors to Ios and Osx convergence?
I mean the Top Ipad could be the entry Laptop one?

which configuration should i get?

guys just a few questions.

Is Irish Pro 5200 in the 15' enough to run games such as Minecraft, CS:GO, Left 4 Dead 2 and TF2 at highest setting smoothly?
These are and will be the only games I play so if 5200 is enough then I don't need to get the 750 graphics card.

Also, is 8 gigs of ram enough for the next 4 years ? I don't do video editing, just some gaming.

Thanks !:D

I had the same problem. My VISA limit is on € 2500 but with all the accessories I ordered, I was just above € 2500. So I had to make a bank transfer, which sucks because now my transfer has to be processed by Woldpay before Apple can start shipping it to me. Should take 2-3 days :(
