Waiting for Haswell MBP Mega Thread

I've tried a whole bunch if the codes that people have posted and gotten nothing except "color LCD". It's slight relief, actually, because then I don't have to freak out about having LG or whatever. I'm blissfully ignorant haha. Buy if an issue ever arises then I'll be grumpy.

As long as there is nothing wrong with the screen, I'm fine too. I won't play the screen lottery unless there is legitimately something wrong with it.

and the weirdest thing was that when I signed into icloud...it sent me an email saying that "my email was used to sign into a 13" macbook pro"

when i have a 15"...

Bit the bullet. Didn't want to wait for a 1TB BTO, so i opted for a 2.3/16/512GB. I think i'll manage to survive with 512GB. Hell, $500 extra is a lot of coin.

Yeah, the "do-everything" computer. For those buying a completely maxed-out 15" rMBP, they will be in heaven. Best laptop money can buy.

Mine was delivered yesterday, but I don't make it back home until tomorrow. Can't wait. The last 8 months have been long.

I got the same machine that you opted for. Yeah 500 bucks is a lot of cash to add to the already big price tag.

That kind of stuff drives me crazy. Once I have seen a defect like that I can't stop looking for it. It's a kind of insanity I wish I didn't have.

As you, ValSalva, I don't think I could live with just KNOWING there was a flaw on the (expensive) machine.
Good to know I'm not alone :D

One of the screws on the bottom of my new 15" stood just a *hair* more proud (taller) than its neighbors, enough that I could feel it as I ran my hand along the bottom edge of the case (in an area I would rarely touch in the first place!). Having the correct pentalobe screwdriver, I removed it and compared it to the adjacent screw, and found the tall one didn't have threads cut all of the way up to the underside of the screw head. In the big picture, no big deal.

But I still had to stop by the local Apple Store on the way home tonight to get the screw replaced!

Hey, anyone experiencing the issues with the unresponsive keyboard and/or trackpad? MacRumours (https://www.macrumors.com/2013/10/3...kpad-issue-in-new-13-inch-retina-macbook-pro/) Apple is preparing an update to fix the issue.
I haven't, but I have a 15" -- I've only heard of this being a significant issue on the 13"ers.

I actually got mine on Friday. Been a bit busy. 15" 2.3 ghz model. This thing is just fantastic. Samsung display and Samsung SSD. Blazing fast. Just perfect in every way. I like to watch movies in bed or on the couch with it on my belly. I watched 2 back to back. 3 1/2 hrs. Really wasn't that warm, certainly not hot and the fans never kicked on. On my 2009 those fans whirled after 20 mins. My cost was $2399 with discount. Worth every penny

Awesome, got the same config as you!

I haven't had my fans turn on yet. Even though I was installing (compiling) a couple of things yesterday. This thing runs very cool. My previous macbook pro got hot to the touch with about an hour of use. This one doesn't even get hot!

I'm going to buy Bioshock Infinite soon though so I will see how well this runs.

I got an LG display (LP - SJE1) but I couldn't be happier. No image retention/yellow screen problems here!
For the SSD, I got APPLE SSD. Not sure if that's good or bad.

Anyone have an issue with Mail not working at all? I migrated from a 2011 MBP running mavericks and Mail does not work at all, does not recognize the accounts, prompts to enter an email, then either crashes or freezes. The preferences in the Mail menu is greyed out.

I brought this issue up to AppleCare and tomorrow will be the 1 week mark with no answer. It's really frustrating since I cannot get an answer, and being that I use the machine for business, not having Mail working is crippling, I typically receive around 500 emails a day, so I am forced to use my old computer until the engineers at Apple can pull their heads out of their asses and actually do something.

In regards to the SSD, there should be more to it than that. Mine said APPLE SSD SM0512F. I then went to google and typed that in, that's how I found out that I had a Samsung

My screen looks great, no image retention what so ever.
I just did this terminal command:

ioreg -lw0 | grep "EDID" | sed "/[^<]*</s///" | xxd -p -r | strings -6

and got:

Color LCD
LSN154YL01-A01
DLM3377012EFF0QA3
Color LCD

So I think that means that I've got a Samsung screen. :D

Mine is an LG screen:

Nice bleed :) (but no retention).

I can't understand why there are still issues with the screens on these premium machines

Luckily, I can get the screen replaced right in the store. Takes about 15 minutes. So no need for sending it in, or wait for a replacement. So I don't have to be without a Mac for days/weeks :D (and don't need to reinstall a new machine). that's pretty neat!

Sorry if missed this - what's this telling us? Assuming Samsung screen is better than LG? And what's this about retention and getting the screen replaced? Is there a test to perform to check? New Full Spec 15" arriving tomorrow. thx!

I think both the screens are perfectly good.
I originally had a 2011 retina with LG and it was nice.

I'm just sharing information.
(I don't think I mentioned anything about my screen being replaced)

Whatever screen you get, I"m sure it'll be great.
Enjoy your new computer.

Horrendous bleed there. I would return the whole machine.

This is realy bad. It's beyond me why can't they (screen manufacturers) get their ish together. It's pathetic and inexcusable.
Good thing, that You can get it fixed on the spot :)
