received my 13" i5/16gb/256 rMBP today. sold my 13" i5/8gb/256 MBA to get it.

i am loving the MBP so far but already miss my Air's battery life

Thanks for all the posts guys, the posters on here really made the wait a little more bearable.

I'm now typing from my 15" rMBP and I couldn't be happier. I'm most happy at the fact that the 1920x1200 resolution is actually pretty good. I thought it would be way too small but I still get the incredibly clear screen and it's just so good to look at!

Congrats with the new rMBP. Mine arrives tomorrow, so the wait is almost over for me too

Have really enjoyed the wait with your guys :D This has become one of the most epic threads of MR the past years.

See you in a future "Waiting for....." thread. :D

JUST got my rMBP 15/2GHz/16GB/256GB/Iris Pro MINUTES ago :eek::eek:

Was scheduled for a late-Wednesday delivery, but because of delays by the storm, it got in the delivery truck today :D Mwahahaha! Looking so much forward to booting this baby!:eek::cool::apple::rolleyes:

Congrats man ! :)

I'll second that -- I hadn't realized how gorgeous until I placed my late '08 next to my late '13 late evening when transferring some files. Wow.

Haha, yeah, I also had a 2008 Unibody Macbook. The difference is amazing! I'm really happy with this. Could very well be the best Mac I've ever owned.

Managed to last a few days without changing my mind specs wise. Will order on Friday as interest is paid then so might as well leave the money where it is for a few more days.

I still have not re-ordered. I cancelled my order from last Tuesday before it shipped, and I'm still debating the specs that I want. I will re-order soon.

Awesome, It looks almost all the regular posters in the Waiting for Haswell thread have gotten their rMBPs. I can't believe how fast my rMBP is. Compiling two things with NO slowdowns. So awesome.

Howdy neighbor!

I'm in the same boat.

Can't seem to decide between the 13"/2.6/8/512 base model or upgrading it to 13"/2.8/16/512...

Every time I think I've decided, the reasons to go for the other seem appealing.

I think I'm ever so slowly sliding toward the "best" base model. It'll be available in the Apple Store if I need to exchange it for any reason. And in 3 years, chances are the newest models will have a ton of new advancements. If I take care of it, it should still be worth something to help offset the cost of replacing it.

Wasn't a regular contributor to the thread, but I was definitely a reader and a waiter...

Picked up my 15" rMBP 2.6 / 16GB / 1TB at the Apple Store on Saturday

I walked in the first time and was told by the young lady that I would have to order it online, that they only carried the base models

I left and returned later to reluctantly get the base... only to find that they did indeed have the maxed out puppy in the back

I upgraded from a 2011 MBA and I couldn't be happier
Keeping my MBA for travel and presentations, but using the rMBP for heavy lifting

At least I'm not alone. I thought I was the only one from this thread who hasn't ordered yet. My initial order was a 13"/i7/8GB/256GB. I cancelled at first because I figured I better go with 16GB RAM.

But now I have gotten to thinking about the rest of my needs. I might just max it out, or go i7/16/256GB. Either way, I just want a configuration I'll be happy with. It makes me sad that I'd be typing this on a rMBP right now if I hadn't cancelled, but I'm willing to wait for the specs that I want.

I even briefly considered the 15-inch, but as powerful it is I really don't like the form factor/ergonomics of it. Plus I'll be doing mega-travelling, so best to go with the 13.

I've had my rMBP for almost a week, so I thought I'd post some stats for you guys that may still be trying to decide. I got these while running Chrome with two tabs which is on the lighter end of my normal uses. I have the 13" 2.4/8/256.

Yeah it's a beast! Really happy with it :D Almost got everything set up by now, and haven't got a single problem yet!

I'm with you on the 15". If I want a larger screen to get some serious work done, I'll plug in to an external monitor/TV. Otherwise I want it to be light and portable with decent battery life. I don't need to travel with it, but I plan on mostly using it in my lap from the couch. So smaller, lighter and less heat output would be nice.

Each time I convince myself that saving ~$400 by going with the base "better" option makes sense, I wonder if I'll run into issues with 8GB of RAM in 2-3 years. It doesn't seem likely given my usage patterns though: (no VMs, no large RAW file editing, probably no Photoshop, etc.). The problem is in predicting the future. I may decide in 3 years I want a Mac Pro on my desktop for some reason, and this rMBP will be a portable for browsing. Or some other technological reason will come out making an upgrade make more sense...

I even sat down Monday to use the latest Geekbench3 results and generated this graph (based on numbers that were on the Mac Benchmark chart yesterday morning) to help figure out which processor made the most sense. The 0% baseline is the 2.4 GHz Haswell i5.

I hate the fact that I have no option to upgrade the RAM... And that the "best" option for the 13" doesn't come with 16 GB automatically. If the Apple Store carried a 13"/2.6/16/512 for $1,999, my decision would be made...

I'm literally going to travel the world. And even though the 15-inch rMBP will fit (barely) on an airplane tray, the 13-inch is so much better for travelling. Plus, I just don't like how the 15" is. The 13-inch rMBP form factor/dimensions/weight are perfect in my eyes, and that's what matters to me. The 15" is just too wide, and I don't think the difference in the screen size:screen real estate ratio is that big.

Looking back on it, I could have been happy with 8GB RAM. But as much as I want to update my rMBP more frequent than the average user, I'm going to be in countries where Macs cost a ridiculous price compared to here in the USA, and I don't want to be forced to buy a new computer just because I need more RAM.

I am definitely going to go 2.8 i7/16GB RAM. I wish I would have done the extra RAM in the first place. The question is if I'm going to stick with a 256GB SSD or go all out with 1TB.

Apple just finally took the charge off my card today. But I totally get what you mean about thinking about the future, it's good to really think about your configuration. Luckily I've almost reached a final decision.

Mine too. I was more shocked to find that the base 15" still only comes with 8GB. I don't need the 512 SSD, but would have gone for it last week if it had 16GB, as it also comes with the processor that I want.

Middle base is definitely the best value and it is only because I think I'm more likely to run this machine into the ground than to upgrade in a year or two that I haven't gone for it. I think I'd also have gone for middle base by now if the prices hadn't have dropped, as I was set on that exact config before the announcement.

Might as well get the 3% interest on the money now before I part with it, even though I'm set on 2.6/16/256.

There are still people that haven't ordered :O Glad to know I'm not the only one.

PDFierro: what laptop size do you own at the moment? I don't remember reading that in the 2 months I have been reading this thread. You sound pretty sure about the 13" size. Just wanted to say that I was extremely sure as well. Got a 13" ultrabook few months ago, was super happy about the size and weight. It was just so practical to take to school every day, my colleagues carried Heavy 15" old Windows laptops. Then I started getting irritated about the rather small Photoshop and Solidworks. Suddenly, the 15" (older) laptops seemed huge. It was like Heaven to work on them, and they didn't even have 1080p res.

What I'm trying to say is: if you aren't absolutely sure yet about the 13" screen size, work with it for at least a few days. If you are sure already: lucky you, I wish a 13" screen would be big enough for my programs.

To be honest the 13" Haswell rMBP looks very nice as well. Hard decisions.

I'm without a laptop at the moment. But I am absolutely sure about the 13-inch, always have been. It's just hard not to pay attention to the 15" with all the reviews coming out, but the 13" is definitely what I prefer and also more practical in the situations I'll be using it.
