Hey folks,
Is anyone waiting for Mac Pro with Nehamlem to,us in Pro Audio (audio and midi recording with Logic software) and the advantages or benefits over the present Mac Pro?
I am going Mac Pro due to the huge RAM capacity.
Brad (recording studio guy)
Everything should be equally better. Nehalem will bring around 20-30% better performance, and Snow Leopard on top of that could give us 40%.
I don't have one of my own yet; sorry.
If you absolutely must get one now... ugh. I don't really even want to say to get one now. If you need it for your work, get it; go for the 2.8 if you're going to turn around and sell it right before Nehalem, but if that isn't the case, go ahead and get the 3.2.
With Intel executing a significant architecture change next year, rather than plonking $4,000-$5,000 into a new Mac Pro Harpertown, I am going to let Intel shrink their dye size again and put in their new memory controller before I commit.
In the interim, the incedentals (DDR-3 RAM and faster, larger drives) will drop significantly in price, cores per chip could easily be up to 8 if not 16, and hopefully when I buy the big beast (or even better a mid-sized tower), it should last me a heck of a long time.
There it is. For now, I am waiting for Nehalem! It's not that far away.
Are you?
Official Thread Motto: We waited this long! What's another 8 months?
Ski,
Whta's your info. on a release date for OS Leopard and Nehalem being packaged for us in 2009 for Mac Pro 3.2, which is what I better get.
Thanks, Brad
