Just got couple email from big retailers about savings in Mac products.

Mostly Macbook Pros and some iMacs. Coincidence?
Retailers are just as clueless as we are and go by "rumors"
[doublepost=1474493950][/doublepost]Oooh boy, say goodbye to Apple computers kids !!
Here comes the iDrive...

According to a report published in the Financial Times, Apple has approached McLaren Technology Group about a potential acquisition. McLaren is known for making cutting-edge supercars for the road and its competitive Formula One team, among other things.

Sent from a borrowed Macbook 2009...

Yes it looks good , but its only for half length graphic cards. It will be shipped with a (even crappier, short) 970, a 950 or a 1060. So I guess it will be only a bit better than the dGPU of the new mbp.
Yeah, I think the win for this one is to turn a 13" MBP into a modest gaming machine.

SEND THE OCTOBER INVITE PLEASE SWEET BABY JESUS

Is the guess here Oct 19 or 26th ? Mid to end month, both the usual Wednesday.

I believe the average is invites sent out 10 days before. So October 10th or 17th for invites would be the guess.

My based on nothing my guess is no event, just journalist secret meet and greets a week before then embargo lifted. So optimistically I am guessing meet and greets on October 5th, rumours and leaks on overdrive, and full media splurge on October 12th. Why earlier than normal? Because the Mac line has become a laughing stock of the industry and its customers (thats us) if you work with other humans at all familiar with computers.

I know this is the "Skylake" thread, but given the impressive performance of Apple's in-house chips in the iPhone 7, do you guys think it's possible that this Macbook Pro will ship with an Apple chip instead of an Intel one?

That could help explain the wait.

Would love a MacBook Pro with the same finish as the matte black iPhone

I used to want the space grey of the rMBs but now after getting my iPhone 7 Plus, pure matte black would be killer and should hopefully be what they use going forward. Space Grey can die now, long live Black!

Waiting for A10xFusion MBP?

It's not just you. Mind you that I'm not a macOS "exclusive" user. I switch between windows and macOS multiple times a day. Weird thing is that I didn't feel like gouging my eyes out when using W7-W10 UNTIL macOS came into the mix (around 10.7 or so). I started to slowly gravitate towards macOS, and the more I used it the more my "hatred" towards Windows grew. Contrary to others' experiences, I was "poisoned" slowly over time, for around 2 years more or less. Mavericks ultimately was what converted me. Present day, I really cannot explain to you the sense of frustration that takes over me just by glancing over the W10 desktop. Why you may ask? I really don't know. I find it baffling myself really...
P.S. Don't get me started on the Start menu or the Control panel, easiest way for me to lose my s**t, for basically no reason (at least a conscious one) at all. Maybe it's true what they say and Apple does brainwash people.o_O :p

You can theme windows. (see fully theme unlike you thought was possible)
There have been some talented people over at deviant providing some amazing designs for years.

My Windows desktop woke itself up from sleep last night to update itself. Stupid me, I forgot to re-disable WiFi after printing a shipping label. Now who knows how many gigabytes it pulled from my very limited connection (I live on a mountain and use cellular for everything.

Still never used a Mac. Maybe it will do the same thing? Who knows. But Microsoft thinks its ok to hijack my computer whenever it wants and that irritates the hell out of me.

And Apple irritates me by not releasing "My First Mac" yet. On the balance Apple's still ahead.

Try some of the tools like disablewintracking if on 10 and search around the net for ways to disable auto updates.

I'd be perfectly happy just buying the current form factor and color with updated/modern internals.
Apple loves you.
Here. Have another overpriced, underwhelming product as your reward.

Highly doubt it, if they were doing something that major like switching PCs to ARM they would announce it at WWDC so developers can start rewritting everything. IMO they would go with the air or the macbook before switiching the pro.

Not a chance.
Long way off, if it ever happens.

By the way, did anyone see an increase in available SSD space after upgrading El Capitan to Sierra? Without/before using the Storage Management feature, that is.

I got around 20 GB boost and was wondering if this is real. I didn't do a clean install, but just an upgrade.

My biggest reason for waiting for the Skylake rMBP was because of my 2014 rMBP almost running out of space, but now I can probably wait until the next iteration. I'm not really ready yet to wrestle with adapters, dongles, and OLED bar.

I seem to have freed up 16GB or so! Just ran omnidisksweeper and applejack earlier this week, freeing up ~12GB, a lot more after updating to Sierra this morning.

I'd argue the current product line is exactly overpriced and underwhelming as it's made up entirely of 2-3 year old internals. People are waiting because buying a $2-3k Haswell based laptop doesn't meet their needs, where as they are perfectly happy to spend the same money on a modern equivalent/alternative from other manufacturers..

Exactly what I expect to be my personal history with "machines" in a year or so.

After 20 ys on windows, I decided that the next MBP will be my jump to OS. I'm still on win 7 and I care about my laptop like a son, and I have to admit that everything runs quite smooth despite his 6 years as my universal PC for home, gaming and university, but I'm really tired of that sensation of cheap device manufacture (especially compared to Apple) which came really soon and that "general malfunctioning" when you talk about new drivers and new hardware, like simply installing a router, or also the attention you have to pay when you install every-single-program or application to avoid malwares, adwares and so on...

Yeah and see this is exactly what is wrong with "Selling" in general.

Apple says here is a laptop that all of our employees worked on and it cost $2000.
PC manufacturers say oh yeah well we have a machine for $1200.

And the only thing that people just don't ***** get is:

Apple could say, "Well the thing is ours works"

Does the PC work? and work for at least 90% of the people that buy it? and the answer is NO, it doesn't work for 90% of the people they buy the computer.

So buy a computer THAT WORKS for $2000, or one THAT DOESN'T WORK (per se) for $1200?

And in the end THESE A$$h0les have taken the whole ***** world on Road Trip for 15 to 30 years of Windows agony before they (the poor users) just give in, and then switch to Mac and most are like whooa, this is awesome.

That's one of the reasons I love the iPhone, because so many people got to use a totally different platform, instead of "a computer", and got to experience Apple, and I mean don't get me wrong there have been some bumps, but a...

And quite a few people loved the experience and eventually bought macs, instead of a PC the next time around.

The only problem is the PC Guru Guys who are Windows Experts, want all of their acquaintances TO DEPEND ON THEM to always help FIX the computer, it's how they stay in business. Rip off Artists!

I have a brother in law and my brother who both eventually switch from Windows to Mac. My brother before the iPhone because he just couldn't take having to redo his Windows system back in the Everquest days.

My brother in law after he got an iPhone, and his desktop and laptop.

My bro gotta 2009 MacBook Pro, and my Brother in-law got a Retina MacBook Pro 2015 and iMac.

I haven't had to do one thing except talk my brother into getting an SSD for his platter HD in the 2009, and swap it out to a external case and then use it for a CCC backup.

Both of them DON'T NEED ANY HELP. It's awesome. The nightmare days of bro, I need to re-insall my Windows on my machine, and I don't have the disk etc bs blah yada crap...

gotta go...

This thread has been unusually sunny considering the conditions we are in. I need shade. Where are my flame bait posters at?

Am I the only person that sees a jet black iPhone and thinks 'that's a pretty nice iPhone 7c'. Just looks too much like the plastic 5c, except in black.

I'm hoping it'll leave no doubts that's it's a premium device once one holds it in person.

Of interest, one of the main reasons I ordered that color is because I want to rock it without a case, and it's said that Jet Black is more grippy. There's no way I could rock on of the others naked without it flying out of my hand and some point. It's rediculous.

Thought I heard that Google is having an event to release their new pixel phone on Oct 4. If Apple was run by marketing, they would release an ultra cryptic invite on the 4th to stoke speculation and suck the air out of the news cycle.

Maybe it'll ship with both.

Maybe it'll ship with both.

Granted, i don't know specific A10 details, but I'm pretty sure the A10 is not an x86-64, and it lacks other extension sets, like SSE.... Given that, as powerful as the A10 is, it would not stand up to Intel when it comes to numerical modeling. Though, I do look forward to be able to running quick fluid dynamic simulations on my iPhone (without connecting to cloud computing).
