It depends. The flash storage is faster on the MBP, but it has much worse graphics. The MBP has an i7 vs a newer generation i5 at a higher clock. For most tasks the iMac will be faster. I think the rMBP has double the RAM as the default.

I don't think the iMac will get an update because there are no new chips for it to use. It's already on Skylake and Kaby Lake isn't ready. The good news is that it's not as outdated as the MBP and KL isn't much of an update.

Yeah, no:

Whoever this analyst is, they have the easiest job in the world: Parrot Gurman and Ming!
i might as well wait tbh isn't it?

when is the event?
i just cannot wait haha
not sure if i should get an iMac or macbook pro even

Sometime next month. But whenever they announce the date you can go ahead and get the iMac. I think it's usually a week in advance.

Since you have a MBP 2012, I don't see the point in getting a new laptop. Get an iMac and the MBP can serve those instances when you need portability.

Do you think Tim will put a GTX 1060M in the MBP, if we reach page 1060 by october?
No. He'll put two 1060s (full desktop variants) if we reach page 1060 and sacrifice your firstborn son/daughter whilst chanting satanic spells*.

*=soul may be dragged to hell two days after the release of the rMBP 2016. Proceed with caution.

0 to 60 real quick. o_O

The retailer is just as much as "victim" of the outdated MBP's as we are. They can't do anything about it either. Apple on the other hand at least could've introduced some price cuts or whatever. If you do this at a third party retailer, you're fighting the wrong people.

I see nothing wrong with it. It's to educate potential buyers. Are you saying people shouldn't know about the age of these products?

So you don't think damaging a persons business, who has no control over the product updates they receive, is ok?

I full agree with doing this within an Apple store but not other retailers,as it is not their fault.

It really doesn't matter. Morally, it seems right to not make a statement to a third party retailer, but logically, there's no distinction. Why? Because the purpose is to educate the buyer that the hardware is old. The hardware's age or time of inception is no different if it's from Apple's stores or Best Buy. Sure, it's obvious it's not Best Buy's fault that Apple hasn't updated the Mac line, excluding the Macbook, in a while. But who cares? Customers such as students, teachers, artists, music producers, are the ones forking over the money. They should have a right to know what they're buying, regardless or which location it's from.

A reminder to those new to this thread, and or are not aware of this.

The current gen MacBook Pro with a discreet GPU- the top end MBP that comes with an extra graphics card by ATI or Nvidia--

It is not used at all most of the time, only for things like games and pro apps that leverage it, or if you're plugged into an external display.
Most of the time the computer is not using it, instead using the intel iGPU like the other models do. Less battery drain. Less heat. Negligible performance difference for most tasks.

Just a heads up lest you opt for the top tier MPB expecting your facebook and iTunes window speed to improve because of the extra graphics unit. You can save a lot of cash if your usage scenario rarely matches the above.

But other retails are still choosing to sell an outdated computer. Therefore it is fair, to educate customers whether they are buying from apple or other retailer

Guys, my local Apple Store was taking down ad material. I asked one of the employees and he said that new ad material was coming soon. They were taking down MacBook (2016) banners and replacing them with iPhone 7.

He didn't say for what product, but I'm guessing something new is coming. Also they changed the fonts of every product to San Francisco, except for the MacBook...so I think we're going to see something soon. SO EXCITED!

Nah. Didn't you hear. iPhone 7 with its ultra fast A10 Fusion is meant to replace your MacBook and the iPad Pro is meant to replace your rMBP.

:D Yay! That actually has renewed my excitement a bit. It will pass in a few days unless renewed though. ;)

Again, it's about educating the consumer. If all the retailer did was sell and survive off ancient hardware, then that's a business model problem that the retailer needs to look into. But you can't tell me that it's ok for 3rd party retailers to thrive off of uneducated consumers.

Yeah, I don't get the logic either. I have no idea in what world they live in that it's ok for an outdated product to be sold by any retailer, as long as it's not Apple.
