Just stick in a AMD Zen processor that is fine tuned to Apples demands and call it a day. I am really starting to get sick of Intel right now. Sporadic. Untimely. Inconsistent.

Yeah I don't know if I would mind them using AMD processors; I don't think I'd really care to be honest. Especially with this news of Intel ceasing to make quad-core iGPUs (or whatever it was, I don't know, I'm having trouble following the processor news. I still don't even know the difference between them all). But honestly it's the graphics power that I care the most about in this upcoming laptop (due to editing photos being a big part of why I want this laptop). In that sense I care about dGPUs. I don't even care that much about which CPU or iGPU is used as long as the laptop has a good dGPU.

So? The point is to educate people about the age of the rMBP. So you're saying Apple shouldn't sell outdated technology, but a 3rd party retailer is ok? Unless it's marked below Apple's ludicrous pricing, this is completely warranted.

Can you imagine though: "for our pro consumers we have an all new iPad Pro" *

*The day Armageddon started.
"The all new iPad-Pro comes with a lightning port only, because you know, courage. We've decided to make the smart keyboard consist of touch-enabled buttons that don't actually click, instead we use a taptic engine in each key. It'll sell for just 299. "

Sounds like they have got the 13 inch MacBook mixed up with the 13 inch Pro if true. Can't see them making so much differentiation between the 13 and 15 inch Pros, also fairly sure the leaked chasis was a 13 inch and had 4 USB C ports.

I think you mean the MacBook Air?

A Kaby Lake MBA with Skylake rMBP, the latter with TouchID and the TouchBar, would fit both the chassis leak and Intel's roadmap.

Only one more week people.

I'm wondering if Apple will hold the event on October 5 to steal the spotlight from the Google reveal on October 4.

my predictions: invite is coming between the 5-10th October, the event is in the next week after 10th October, to Apple Stores Macbooks are coming on the 14th or 21st October.
Everything seems pretty legit ;)

Calling it now the Mac Mini and Mac Pro are dead.

Well there has been rumours of a bigger 13 inch version of the MacBook. Think it was Ming Chi Quo?

That rumor never made sense to me, unless they plan on killing the MBA and 12" rMB. I just assumed they were conflating the rMB with the MBA.

Once Apple simplifies their product line, rumor deciphering will become easier!

Once Apple simplifies their product line

Take a look at lenovo's, dell's, asus'es or some other manufacturers product line and compare the simplicity of apple's to the alternatives... It's stupid simple already. Other manufacturers really need to work on that.

Oh, sure. But once Apple can put a retina screen in a MBA at current price points, will it and the rMB both need to exist?

I am a dillema
should i just wait for the new macbook pro 15 or get an iMac.
I do not really care about portability tbh since the laptop/imac will always stay at home. I currently have a mac 13 but its rally old and its not much time left imo
i start uni next week so need a new computer for my course

Best Buy just dropped the price of the Apple TV to $100. Possible link to an October hardware event?

No. It's just a sale, they do those on occasion. They don't know anything, and I highly doubt the AppleTV will get an update.

If you really don't need portability, an iMac is much more bang for your buck. Just don't get one with a hard drive. I can't imagine not having a laptop in college, though.

What model laptop do you have? If it's a MBP, it's pretty easy to install a new battery and SSD.

Apple TV will get an update when Apple starts streaming 4K via iTunes. Problem is that I wouldn't hold my breath for it. Could happen next year though.

BTW. Has the HEVC licensing issue been solved?

I have a macbook pro 2012 i think...it works and all that but starting a law degree so wanted a new laptop to start with. i don't plan to take my laptop to uni though....i have an iPad and plus i prefer to make notes at uni with my hand...i take information in better that way. still people are saying its better to get a macbook pro.

If you were to get the 27inch i mac.....which one would you get as there are different prices for the 27inch.

You should get at least the middle one because of the much better hard drive (fusion drive is a lot faster than standard hard drive) but the 2TB Fusion drive has a lot more fast storage than the 1TB. So I would suggest the middle one with a 2TB fusion drive or the most expensive version with the 2TB which is 100 dollars more but with better graphics card and processor.

I'd get the middle model with the Fusion drive. Can't imagine using a Mac these days with a Hard Drive. Apple needs to stop selling them...

Since the new MBP will have USB C ports only I think we should form a little bit of discussion about adapters.
I will need a HDMI one and some to regular USB adapters. Which are the best?

The retailer is just as much as "victim" of the outdated MBP's as we are. They can't do anything about it either. Apple on the other hand at least could've introduced some price cuts or whatever. If you do this at a third party retailer, you're fighting the wrong people.

okay thanks
that was the one i was looking at getting
spec wise is that iMac as good as the entry level 15' retina macbook pro?

I had a dream last night I checked the apple site and it was down like it normally is before they update it with new products. To think I was once against Apple and now here I am waiting for this damn 13 to come out so I can get my first Mac computer and having dreams about when it's going to be released. Hahaha I have a feeling when I do get it that it's going to become my main development machine and my Dell xps 13 (skylake) which I use now for development (running ubuntu) will be collecting dust. Haha

It depends. The flash storage is faster on the MBP, but it has much worse graphics. The MBP has an i7 vs a newer generation i5 at a higher clock. For most tasks the iMac will be faster. I think the rMBP has double the RAM as the default.

I don't think the iMac will get an update because there are no new chips for it to use. It's already on Skylake and Kaby Lake isn't ready. The good news is that it's not as outdated as the MBP and KL isn't much of an update.

Yeah, no:
