Waiting for Skylake MBP thread

Would there usually be stores running out of stock of old models by now if there was going to be a new model in October?

Wondering what the likelihood is because I'm desperate.

Always when a few hours pass without new messages in this thread I'm getting nervous for some unknown reason.

Also, after waiting for 18 months I moved to South Korea a few weeks ago for a semester. So I kind of am very relaxed about October now, as there is no way I will buy me a new computer in Korea. No Apple Stores here, thus no way of getting a German keyboard. Also, student discount + tax return is much cheaper at home. So, I'll wait for January in all cases. I'll get excited with you when you order, and have the involuntary luck to you being my testers. I'm hoping for some great reviews of all of you, so that I will have my mind set up perfectly when I return.

All 6th gen skylake mobile cpu's 6700HQ and higher are all quad core mobile cpu's (link)and there is absolutely no reason why Apple couldn't put the 6700HQ quad core processor in their 15 inch model..[/QUOTE]

The reason is the current mbp 4th generation of processors are 10 to 20% more powerful than 6700hq.

had the opportunity to play with a 2013 and a 2015 dgpu retina mbp (i own a 2010)
and i've to say, that not even under heavily cpu based tasks i could tell if there was a real difference (huge difference from mine obviously, 2+2 vs 4+4)
the display is still a beauty, the form factor/weight/battery life still unreached by competition (imho, maybe just the razer).
at this point the only thing that is blocking me is the DGPU.
at the moment gpus are clearly the components which get old faster than all the others.
they can keep the same chassis for me, (i would really love to see an additional inch in the same space) they can keep even the same battery life and the same keyboard the same speakers, but please give me the opportunity to use an external gpu (and maybe a touchid sensor).

tl;dr: the cpus in the current generation mbps are OLD just for their age not for their performance.

I collected some new rumors from a Chinese largest forum:
1. 13" New MacBook and 13" MacBook Pro will be revealed in Oct, and they has begun production.
2. 13" RMBP has neither OLED Bar nor Touch ID, but come with Kaby Lake, 2x USB-C, 1x 3.5mm jack
(an insider got the info from production line)

I think it's more plausible that the second point is about the New Macbook and not the rMBP because possibly the New Macbook 13" will use the same processors as the new Dell XPS 13, which are 15W Kabylake. The 13" rMBP will use 28W Skylake with hopefully OLED Bar and Touch ID. (This is my way of dealing with denial)

Sorry I gotta go with the Chassis leak on this one (which is basically the opposite of what they're saying, save for the headphone jack).

I do believe in Kaby Lake (13"!!!!) though.

Aren't there only 15W Kaby Lake chips out now, or am I mistaken?

Quad core Kaby Lake and TB3 (and eGPU support through Windows 10) is all the new rMBP needs. Honestly I can't wait to get back to Mac --I just can't justify paying full price new for older technology.

When it is finally out, what is the best way to get it before it (may) run out of stock ?

Queue in front of an Apple store or a retailer ?
Pre-order it online from Apple or a retailer and get it shipped ?
Pre-order it online and choose to pick it up in a store ?

Pre-ordering it online is definitely the best way, at least for iPhone releases—I'm sure that applies to Macs as well.

i really can't wait to see what apple will release cpu wise, it must be a very difficult choice.

the problem is that they always try to put almost the same cpu series in both the 13" and 15".
intel at the moment is releasing the cpus suitable for the 13" macbook pro way before the one suitable for 15" macbook pro, probably because the U series cpus are the biggest slice of the market.

at the same time is a fact that at the moment there's not even a single laptop in the market with an i7-6x70 series CPU, the one with the iris pro graphic, suitable for the 15" macbook pro, even if intel has announced/released them on January 2016 (9 months ago).

on the other side, by the end of the month almost all the competitors will start to ship the first U series 7th generation cpus (i5 for now) but none of them suitable for the 13" macbook pro because equipped with only the HD graphics (instead of the iris).

excluding a super exclusive channel that intel can give to apple (but i don't think so) the options for a simultaneous late 2016 13" and 15" release are:
13 inches with 28W skylake cpu: i5-6267U, i5-6287U (both 1 year old) or i7-6567U (still unreleased?)
15 inches with 45w skylake cpu: i7-6770HQ, i7-6870HQ, i7-6970HQ (announced on jan16 but only found on intel NUCs)

also, if the leaked intel roadmap is real, this release could be the last one with iris graphics for both 13" and 15".

honestly, i would be more than happy to get a 15" with iris pro NOW instead of a kaby lake one 6/9 months from now with just a little speed bump and a (probably) worse iGPU.

and again, assuming that the leaked intel roadmap is real, what would be in the future? are we returning back to the dual discrete gpus?

we're almost October and there is still zero info, we need something now, will there be an October even or ****ing not?

If that MB 13 comes before the MBPs I think I will cave in ...
Coming from a mid 2010 15 MBP (top model), this would still be an upgrade ? Right ?
And in fact one of the key reason I want to upgrade is to be able to use it closed with a 4 or 5K desktop display.

Even if they release in Oct I'm worried some of us won't get it till December due to the high demand. I remember waiting a month for my 2012 rMBP and there was an actual update a year prior, not like the record delay we're seeing now.

I thought Apple was going to discontinue this line in favor of MacBook?

Not cool bro. This is not an Apple Store, it's an Apple retailer that sells Apple products, this store is not owned nor is it operated by Apple. You're pressing the wrong people. Think next time plz.

So? The point is to educate people about the age of the rMBP. So you're saying Apple shouldn't sell outdated technology, but a 3rd party retailer is ok? Unless it's marked below Apple's ludicrous pricing, this is completely warranted.

You're probably thinking of the MacBook Air. Apple has no reason to discontinue the Pro line.

Can you imagine though: "for our pro consumers we have an all new iPad Pro" *

*The day Armageddon started.
