This ain't vintage wine, prices should have dropped.

Yeah, that's basically the big problem right now with all the Apple computer line.
Apple want to sell hardware 3 years old?
Fine, they can do that.
But is a little bit less than a fraud to charge today prices for such oldness.

2000$ for the base 15" rMBP?! (still Haswell CPU!!)
1099$ for the 21.5" iMac?! (Broadwell CPU)
3000$ for the base Mac Pro?! Three years old technology?!
1099$ for the 1568 days old MacBook Pro?!?! It still has a damn 5400-rpm hd!! An Intel HD Graphics 4000!!

really?!
Come on...

But customers should educate themselves (because Apple market themselves as a brand that requires their customers to do extensive research before purchasing anything)...

In the meantime, my 2015 rMBP remains latest and greatest. Yay me?

hey all.

I read someone said you have 14 days to let them know you want to return AND 14 more days to do it...but I can't find
any writing on this...so far I only see that you will have 14 days since you receive it to return it. anyone here knows more?

Just trying to see how I solve my situation...until I am able to actually buy this new 13" or 15" MBP..whatever comes first.

thanks.

pd: this is crazy. so many people hanging on apples nuts..

Fun fact: in an old Apple forum I was member of, when the first iPad was introduced, a new user opened a thread asking "how could I use flash on my new iPad, and use Torrents?"
He remained... "perplexed" when was told that he couldn't.
Quite strange, he started raging about Apple and iPad.
:D
Yep, customers should, but Apple is not making it easier...

I know that Apple's UK return policy allows you to let them know within 14 days and then have a further 14 days to return, can't speak for other countries. It is hidden in the T&Cs here and then clicking on their link 'Apple's Sales and Refund Policy'

EDIT:

Standard Return Policy
You have the right to cancel your order, return a product or cancel a service contract for any reason. To return a product purchased from the Apple Store or cancel a service contract, please send your intent to return or cancel to us anytime prior to the date 14 days after the date you, or a person indicated by you, acquired physical possession of the product(s), or from the date of conclusion of the service contract. If you ordered multiple products in the same order, please send your intent to return to us anytime prior to the date 14 days after the date you, or a person indicated by you, acquired physical possession of the last product in the order. To exercise these rights, you need only provide us with a clear expression of your intent to return a product or cancel an order or service contract. You can notify us by either sending the model form found at the end of this Policy, submitting the electronic form found online at http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/account/home, calling our freephone number on 0800 048 0408 or sending an email to contactus.uk@euro.apple.com.

Once you notify us of your intent to return, simply return the product with the original receipt, original packaging and its included accessories to us within 14 days. Once we pick up the product or, in the event you are delivering the product to the carrier, we receive the product or proof that it has been shipped, we’ll provide you with a refund based on the original payment method within 14 days.

Please note that you may not return the following, except in case of defect or lack of conformity:

  • Electronic software downloads when download has begun with your prior express consent and acknowledgement that you lose your right of withdrawal.
  • Subscriptions to the Software Up-to-Date Programme, iTunes Gift Cards, Apple Store Gift Cards and any Apple Developer products.
  • Services, like gift packaging, after the services have been fully performed if performance has begun with your prior express consent and acknowledgement that you lose your right of withdrawal once the services have been fully performed. If services have not been fully performed, and you have requested performance to begin within 14 days from the date of conclusion of the service contract, you will be charged an amount proportional to the services rendered until the time you have informed us of your intent to cancel the service contract.
  • Sealed computer software that was unsealed after delivery.

If the product is damaged, we may offset the amount of your refund by the diminished value of the product.

We will refund all costs paid by you associated with the product or service, except for any express delivery costs (when you have not selected standard delivery).

For complete details on how to return a product purchased at the Apple Store, please visit the Return & Refund section of the Help page located at http://www.apple.com/uk/shop/help/returns_refund.

Also a good point why the iPad will NEVER replace laptops. It's a locked down system. Great for a tablet or phone, but it can't be the only options we have. There are an unimaginable usage scenarios that Apple can't think up that the freedom of a desktop OS allows people to do as they wish.

Was in the Apple store this weekend. Felt bad for the couple buying a new MacBook Pro, but didn't want to promise them a refresh soon since it's still so uncertain.

A Guy, named Serban, told me that the 24th October is the real deal for the next Apple Event. Serban said, that we can expect new iPads, new iPad Pro's and completly redesigned Apple Wristbands with a cool and fancy design.

Furthermore, there is one more thing: The Apple TV is going the get a new Generation.

Terrifies me to realize that I ordered this MacBook on June 11th (immediately after availability and I had to wait over a month for delivery). And that release was after 'only' 8month of the previous revision. Now that we're at 1 year and 8 months after the last revision we're all going to be part of the greatest delays in MacBook history!

Does anybody know if the Apple Educational discount will apply to the pre order when the MBP is finally announced? Anybody had any experience with it in the past? Or will I have to wait until launch day
How much even is the college student discount?

Only $100 off

$200 for the top end model. Makes the $400 bump more palatable for the modest speed boost, double the storage, and a dGPU.

It's a percentage that varies (I think) depending what country you are in. So depends where you live and how much you are looking to spend. You could save $80 or >$300 depending on those factors.

In euros, in my country, the 15'' goes from around 2800€ to 2580€

Thanks everyone!

As a college student every dollar off helps make the new RMBP more affordable (And the screen potentially 2" larger :p). To be honest that was more than I expected, especially if it works on preorders.

Man Im really pissed at Apple for their disregard of their MacBook Pro line and not releasing a new one in over a year. Like WTH? It's especially bad bc it'll be about at least a couple of months after school has started

This thread is starting to attract some real lunatics. It's the customer's responsibility to educate himself, not the store's responsibility to educate the customer.

I want an updated MBP as much as the rest of you, but some of you people are talking like the current MBP is little more than a typewriter in an Apple box. It's beyond goofy.
Yeah...the current one is great in every respect unless you need a more up to date dgpu, which is all I want with the new one really
