What if Tim Cook really has "doubled down on security"? ;) I mean, even Mark Gurman was wrong about the Macbook launching, thinking that it was a Macbook Air. I would think Cook keeps an extra close eye on new releases nowadays.

New iPhone battery case just came out without any leaks... If they can keep that breakthrough marvel under wraps, then we're definitely seeing an all new precedent for security in relation to new Apple products.

But Apple per se isn't bound by that though? Displayport over Alt Mode USB-C doesn't seem to have that issue. " When using all four lanes for DisplayPort Alt Mode, which could drive a monitor with up to 5K (5120 x 2880) resolution, "

If Apple didn't want eGPU within the screen, a nice dock or chassis dock would do wonders.

Pretty sure the longest wait was 280 odd days, so that's another 2 and a bit months. Mid Februaryish.
it was 280, i am talking about the 13"

Got a question here. During the last years... when Apple announced a rMBP were they ready for sell inmediately? Or could be a month o more later?

Hardware-centric March event, anyone?

I know we all care about the laptops the most, but the Mac Pro will be at 800 days, the Mac Mini at 500 days, iPad Air at 500 days, and the Thunderbolt Displays at 1,630 days since a release come March 1st, 2016. These are all well above averages.

MacBook Pro 15" will be at 285, with the 13" at pretty much a year in March. Still a long gap, though.

It'll be interesting to see what we get come March. It'd be cool to get everything updated with Skylake, TB3, and color options.

In May of 2015, new 15" MBPs were announced and available the same day. Earlier in March of 2015, the 13" rMBP got an upgrade, and was available that same day. The last update before those was to both models in July of 2014, available that same day.

The last "redesign" was when Apple introduced the 15" rMBP in June of 2012. The 13" came in October. Both shipped the day they were announced.

Thank you, in that case March will work for me.

With more and more info coming out i's great to see that we're finally getting closer to a Skylake MBP.
I have been holding off on getting a rMBP since the update back in March, so I am really stoked on getting my first within (hopefully) the next 6 months

Perhaps a little off topic here but I have a question about BTO's at the release of a new product,

I live in the Netherlands but I would love a US keyboard layout. My sister ordered her rMBP back in October, also with a US keyboard, and it took a whole month to get here. Apparently it had to come from China, then to the US for testing, then it got shipped to the Netherlands.

So, when the skylake rMBP's come out, is there a delay for BTO's? Or could I expect it to go out the factory's doors and go on the same trip as my sister's laptop? (which would unfortunately add another month to the waiting game)

I haven't followed updates in a while. Is it typical for apple to couple new mac announcements with these major presentations or have mbp's been announced without these media events recently?

I haven't been following Apple for a very long time so another person could give you more info on this, but as far as I know, they usually have an event to showcase major improvements/updates of a product. Back in March the rMBP's got silently updated (no event/announcement) with Force Touch trackpads and better SSD's.
So with Skylake they most likely will have some kind of presentation showcasing what improvements Skylake has brought to the table in the new rMBP's. (probably things like a new keyboard mechanism, thinner bezels, colours, Thunderbolt 3 / USB C, faster graphics and perfomance due to the new processor etc. etc.)

Regarding the rumored AW/4" iPhone event in March I doubt they would release MBPs here too. That would be three major release for one show... No I'm betting January event for MBPs :)
They introduced the Macbook at the March event last year. I'm not sure why people think that Apple is afraid to launch multiple products at once.

Well, I think frosse's point is that announcing three major products vs 1 or 2 at a single event would dilute the 'wow' factor of each product.

I think it would be unusual for apple to announce 3 new product lines at a single event. Then again, as I've already said, I haven't followed apple events in a while.

I predict as soon as Skylake is ready they'll want to release as soon as possible. That's the only thing holding them back at the moment, everything else in terms of hardware design is probably already finished.

If Skylake was available in January, why wait for 3 months? (especially considering they skipped Broadwell entirely on 15"). It's not impossible they hold a separate event for the Mac hardware before the iOS hardware. They certainly used to do that a while back, e.g. September iPhone/iPod events followed by Mac events in October.

What if Intel has an agreement with Apple that they developed them a custom designed Iris Pro Graphics with maybe 96 Execution units and 256 MB eDRAM and finally called the graphic chip "Intel Iris Pro 590 Graphics".

If you look at the current product portfolio, more and more Mac Devices are not going to get any dedicated graphic cards and i think a powerful custom graphic card from Intel could give them more reasons to go fully to integrated graphics.

I think it unlikely that Apple will get a special deal with Intel, same reasons as others have said previously.
BUT - the Skylake chips with Iris Pro have not yet been formally announced by Intel. As far as I'm aware it's all rumour at this point. This means it's entirely possible an 'Iris Pro 590' might actually exist.

Anybody needed leaks for something so ugly?I hope next Macbook won't be design'd that way...oh my God..they will..Macbook,just one usb -c then...outside "the hubs hell.." Make i-devices and Mac a little more thick,i will understand ( this with Thunderbolt 3 external display with slot for an Egpu..,or a round Apple Watch,an A9 Apple Tv with 4K,a 13 inch macbok pro with a quad inside,Ipads with an Sd Slot and not those ridicolous external cables/adapters...or maybe a new macbook able to use the Ipad Pro as display nah..this is Microsoft now..not Apple anymore)
