That's kind of my point actually. The computing power that you can currently buy has dramatically outpaced typical computing power need. To feel that you must have the latest and greatest in order to meet your computing needs is kind of farfetched. I know that's not a popular opinion on tech forums, but that's the reality. So many people are always looking for that next best incremental upgrade, and can't bring themselves to buy something that could be "obsolete" in a month, 6 months, a year, etc.
People have been waiting for a quad core 13" MBP, a retina MBA, the re-introduction of a 17" of some sort. The frenzy begins about a month after the last update occurs, and builds to epic proportions the longer that the device goes beyond its average date between updates. The pundits claim to have inside information about what Intel is planning, what Apple is building, what will be announced at what upcoming event, and what the supply chain is building for. Then the update comes, the majority of the people waiting are outraged that ALL of the things that they were expecting didn't make it, and so they start the waiting game again.
